Default Jobs where having stripping experience is a plus

I'm too burned out on stripping. I need an "in-between" job so I can support myself until I finish my cna.

I know there's waitressing, cleaning, etc., but most of the classifieds say you need a couple years of experience (even the cleaning lady ones! wtf? Who doesn't know how to clean?) and professional references. The problem is that I've never had a vanilla job, only stripping! No experience, no references, and absolutely nothing to put on a resume.

So, maybe it would be easier to get a job as a shot or massage girl? Do they have special requirements? Or work in a counterculturey place like a head shop? Does anyone have any other ideas or personal experience with this? How did you transition from stripping to vanilla?

One job that helped having stripping experience is marketing and sales. Of course in many of these jobs they will want a college degree as well but selling dances and promoting myself in the club along with starting to offer bachelor party dancing helped me with my later marketing and sales jobs.

^While stripping experience would certainly be invaluable in the sales world, it's still not something you can very well put on your resume and expect to be taken seriously. With nothing else to her name, the best sales job the OP can hope for is likely in a call centre.

OP -- It probably wouldn't be hard for you to transition to a different job in a strip club, like a waitress, shooter girl, coat check girl, whatever. You may even be able to find work in a sex shop.

There's also menial work. Think teenager's first job: Hostess, server in a bit of a dive bar or a mom & pop sort of place, retail sales associate, call centre, etc., etc. I wouldn't mention dancing though -- I'd act as if you had never worked before.

How is your relationship with management at your club? Is there a manager that you think could vouch for you as a reference and you could say you waitressed/coat checked at the club instead?

Also, never underestimate the power of your network. You may not have a professional network, but maybe the coat check girl at your club has a friend who works in a bar that is looking for a waitress and can put in a good word for you. Or maybe a family friend knows of an opening to cover someone's maternity leave. Just get the word out there that you're looking for a job and someone you know may be able to help you out.

A local temp agency may also be worth a shot, though they can be hit or miss. You likely wouldn't land anything long-term, but you could slowly build up a resume with a few stints here and there.

Thinking long-term though, I would recommend volunteering, particularly with some sort of healthcare organization so you have something relevant to put on your resume along with your certification/degree. That would also help you start networking and could potentially lead to actual work. Not sure how the field is in your area, but graduating with no relevant experience just isn't enough in many cases.

yes, definitely don't even mention stripping. i once made that mistake as a newbie..wanted a sales position as piercing pagoda ( a tiny stand in the mall) and when she asked if i had any sales experience i immediately told her about all the champagne rooms i've sold , very pleased with myself..she kind gave me the hairy eyeball and backed away. and yeah, didn't get the job needless to say.
unless its in a strip club or in the sex industry ( maybe entertainment industry) i really can't think of a career where stripping would be brag-worthy. its still a very taboo/slightly skeevy profession in most of society's eyes

Are you in university right now? I would search for a job at your university or through their job services department.

Otherwise I would find some volunteer work that has something to do with your program so when you graduate you at least have something on your resume. As for a paying current job I would say your best bet would be a waitress at a strip club perhaps, they make good money and it's probably the only job that saying you were a stripper is going to be a plus.

No, I have never put stripping while applying for sales and marketing jobs but the skills I learned help me be successful. That's what I meant. However keep in mind I had a minor in marketing anyway but the stripping sales definitely helps.

Btw what I also forgot to post is in this economy employers have their share of workers so they will not hire someone without a degree and experience for anything beyond an entry level minimum wage job.

How about something like selling lingerie? I bet a stripper would make a great salesperson for a high end lingerie store. We aren't nervous around undressed women and if a guy gets a little pervy in the store ex-strippers are ready to shut him down. We also don't get too weirded out by men who want to cross dress.
