IF you like holding books in your hand the Barnes and Nobel discount section has some more adult theme books.

If you're into autobiographies, I LOVED Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis (Red Hot Chili Peppers). Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx was also good.

I'll have to check those out since I love rock star autobiographies and have been reading quite a few lately.

OP what kinds of books are you open to? Lately I've been reading the Monk books, which are based on the television show. They are really funny mysteries. I love the classics like the Great Gatsby. I buy the books from John Stewart and Stephen Colbert and those are funny. I really like this author Jennifer Chiaverini who writes books about quilting and the Civil War.

    *runs to consult bookshelf*

    Les Misérables - Victor Hugo
Man's Search for Meaning - Viktor Frankl
Napalm & Silly Putty / Brain Droppings - George Carlin
Memoirs of a Geisha - Arthur Golden (def a chick-flick kinda book, & take the 'historical' aspects w/ a grain of salt, but very well-written)
The Other Side of the Night - Daniel Allen Butler (taking apart the role of the Californian in the Titanic sinking)

This is just what I have brought w/ me since I moved. The rest of my stuff is mostly either religious/political dissections or aircraft manuals & FAA exam prep materials.

My brother highly recommended the Harry Turtledove books - historical fiction abt a world in which the South won the American Civil War. I have not read them myself, but the nxt time I go home to visit, if he still has the books then one or two of them may find their way into my travel bag.

"Gone Girl" By Gillian Flynn is an amazing thriller about a marriage gone horribly wrong, and the wife has gone missing/possibly been murdered. it switches narration between the wife and the husband, and it's a great crime novel/suspense thriller that's dark, insightful, full of twists, and amazing. it was a bestseller and very critically acclaimed. can't recommend this book enough!

also, ive been reading the original Sherlock holmes novels and short stories by sir arthur conan doyle-they are much more comprehensible and accessible than you would think!

The black echo by michael connelly-another crime thriller

also michael crichton wrote a lot of great mystery/crime thrillers too

haha you guessed it, i love detective fiction/crime novels

Im on the road to figuring it out tho, I did buy "The secret" and i got through maybe the first 15 pages, and to me is was like a book telling me how to think and it kept repeating itself over and over so i had to put it down lol
Thanks again everyone, i'll be back and also post if i find any goodies!

"The Celestine Prophecy" is absolutely amazing. It's an adventure novel that takes place in Peru, and it is about a man who finds ancient manuscripts that relate to spirituality and the history of humanity, as well as humanity's future. It is about what we as a human race are capable of. It's a one-of-a-kind read, I recommend it! It changed my life, seriously.

Well, they're nothing like Jenna Jameson's book, I'm sure, I would recommend:
Even Cowgirls Get the Blues - Tom Robbins
The Florida Roadkill series - Tim Dorsey
Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal - Christopher Moore
Snowflower and the Secret Fan - Lisa See
Water for Elephants - Sara Gruen
The Reason I Jump - Naoki Higashida
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - Mark Twain
    The Road - Cormac McCarthy
    Oedipus Rex - Sophocles
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep - Philip K. Dick

David Sedaris and similar authors are always a funny and quick read for me.
The Handmaid's Tale is an AMAZING book that I think will strike more than a few chords with ladies and gents in these kinds of professions.
If you haven't read The Alchemist you really really really should, it's quick and profound and is the best book when you're starting a new endeavor.
I love every John Green book there is, seriously worth the read and also are teen books so they're not agonizing to get through.
Sarah Waters is another amazing author who sets gorgeous scenery in Victorian England or World War era Europe. Also great if you are a lady who has crushes on ladies.

    Im a total book nerd!
.. But until you know the genre you like it's hard to recommend!

I love Karin Slaughters book series. Every book is great.
James Patterson also has lots of great easy reads.
Lee Child, the Jack Reacher series are all awesome too! This series is what the Tom Cruise movie was based off of..
The Beautiful Creatures series and Mortal Instruments series. (Both had movies made of them also!)
Dean Koontz is an author that will keep you interested.
The Fifty Shades of Grey books are sexy books but they'll keep you interested in the storyline as well.
Lastly, I just started the Game Of Thrones series and I'm hooked after the first 100 pages.

Not everyone has the same taste as me, of course, but hope this helps!

I loved strip city by lily burana. It was a fascinating insight into one woman's strip trip across america. Being British it was all new to me from peep shows to clubs with shower shows. Maybe it won't be quite so new to you but it was an easy and enjoyable read.

As far as sex worker autobiographies, I enjoyed reading: 'The Price: My Rise and Fall As Natalia, New York's #1 Escort' by Natalie McLennan.

Another good book was: 'Candy Girl: A Year in the Life of an Unlikely Stripper' by Diablo Cody. (Diablo Cody later became a screenwriter, producer and director. She wrote the script for the 2007 movie "Juno".)

What kind of books you enjoy? Fiction (adventure? fantasy? romantic? sci-fi?...) or Non-fiction (biographies? historical? spiritual? travel? adventure? psychology? self-help?...)

'The Godfather' by Maria Puzo is one of my all time favorite books. The book is so much better than the movie.

If you think about something enough, you will eventually act upon it. The Secret is written terribly, but the message is basically that your thoughts become your actions. Some of the junk in that book is wrapped up in new-agey nonsense. But you can't sell a bunch of books based on one sentence.

If you want to know what the "secret" is:
Focus on what you want to happen, not what you think may go wrong and more often than not, the desired outcome will happen.

Now all I need is a 250 page book of pictures of my cat with that sentence on every page and I could be a best selling author, too.

along the lines of 'one of a kind' reads, consider 'Lammas Night'

(snip)The events of the novel reflect an actual attempt by pagans and wiccans in Great Britain to magically aid the British war effort and forestall German invasion during the Second World War, as recounted in the wartime letters of occultist Dion Fortune"(snip)

Research for this novel also inspired author Katherine Kurtz ( best known for Deryni Universe novels ... which were written earlier in her career ) to follow up 'Lammas Night' with a series of white magic laced 'historical fantasy' novels ... the first of which is 'The Adept'.

I'm reading a great one now, 'Gangster Squad'. The REAL story about the post WW II LA Mob, not the movie bullshit. I have no doubt the movie is great entertainment, but I have already heard they take the usual Hollywood liberties with the real story. I'll watch it when I am done with the book.

The best book out there (which is an ebook) is Dance World How to Make it Yours by Carmen Monique. So hilarious. So informative. If you find any more that are remotely as good, join my group Bookworm Beauties and talk about it!
