^Olive oil isn't a good choice to cook with. Coconut, rice bran and macadamia oil are better options. I only cook with coconut oil, if I use it, but I love the taste.

I no longer cook with oils. Too many added calories and fat.
Instead I use a non stick pan and splashes of water to prevent food from sticking.

^^^ personally, if I am going to use a cooking oil at all, I use either Canola oil or Extra Virgin Olive oil. While ALL cooking oils have something near 14 grams worth of total fat content per oz, Canola and EV Olive oils only have 1-2 grams per oz of SATURATED fat content ( versus Coconut oil which has 12 grams per oz of saturated fat ). Also, ALL cooking oils have somewhere around 120 calories per oz. See
Butter actually ( only ) has 100 calories, 11 grams of total fat, and 7 grams of saturated fat, per oz. So lots of times I'll use a pat of melted butter instead of oil to reduce total calories ( counter-intuitive I know ). Butter also improves flavor in many cases.
Also agreed that the new generation of ceramic embedded non-stick pans do remove the need to use oils or butter as a non-stick agent. That's great for 'dry' frying some foods, like eggs, beef, chicken etc. However, lots of other foods really need the oil or butter content for both flavor and texture.
I'll also add that I've become a big believer in 'steaming' instead of frying. Steamed veggies are an obvious 'improvement', and lately I've learned how to 'steam' fish properly as well. Oil or butter use can be eliminated, and the lower temperature supposedly preserves more nutrient value as well.
I'm also becoming a big fan of pressure cooking lately. It seems to preserve more flavor, as well as moisture, does not require addition of oils, and allows for 'skimming off' excess fats that are 'forced' out of the food itself by pressure cooking.

Olive Oil is okay to cook with, as long as it doesn't smoke.

i cook with organic unsalted butter ( never margarine..ick!!) and extra virgin olive oil.

Cocunut oil for things that might require a higher temp....but I usually use it all the time. Olive Oil otherwise.

Olive oil mostly for fish and sesame oil for stir fry and other Asian recipes.
Pam or vegetable oil non stick cooking spray most of the time to spare calories and fat.
Many of the obstacles you once imagined are not even there.

I used to cook with olive oil but didn't quite like the taste. So I switched to 'i can't believe it's not butter'.

Butter and extra virgin olive oil. I have a cast iron skillet that I can pan fry steaks in without using any oil or butter. Just get it hot before the steak goes in. Fish, I haven't been able to use the iron skillet without any EV olive oil or butter. Chicken in the cast iron gets a little dry without EV olive oil or butter.
For no butter or ev olive oil routinely, I go outside to the grill. I do corn on the cob wrapped in aluminium foil on the grill, of course steaks, and burgers. But, also sausages and pork chops. I have a wok and a steamer basket for steaming oysters and crab legs. Of course, I melt butter for the crab legs for dipping. I also use the wok and steamer basket to steam veggies like green beans, broccoli, cauliflower and asparagus.

Im not on the oil trend bandwagon, I use pam cooking spray. Butter flavor is my fav and it doesn't have calories.

Pam spray hass other flavors than butter too. I eat eggs alot so I definitely recommend it

I use EVOO or sunflower oil if I have to use one. I wanna check out Whole Foods to see if they have more oil varieties. Love me some Whole Foods![]()
I use olive oil. I like coconut oil but not for food purposes because of the saturated fat content. It weirds me out.. I'm still guilty of cooking with butter sometimes though for like grilled sandwiches![]()
