Default replacement for ensure drinks for healthy weight gain?

so i know there is a juicing recipe thread, and a cleansing recipe thread but im looking for a protein drink recipe
im trying to gain healthy weight and get "thick" ( im hitting the gym and doing a ton of butt exercises with weights/static exercises too so i don't get sloppy or flabby), and i used to down "ensure plus" drinks all the time until i read what was in them those bastards are chock-full of GMOs and corn syrup . grr! so looking to replace that. i got some protein drinks but they don't have any calories in them to speak of. i just want something i can drink on the go that will give me a good amount of protein AND lots of healthy fats and calories. i know this probably isn't a common question, but thanks in advance to anybody who could help me

Well, I've tried Muscle Milk, you can buy it in the powder too & mix your own, it can also be bought in a 'light' form (less sugar)..the thing I liked about them is they seemed to have a good amt. of protein, & low sugar. I've only had a couple of them, I like them but they sorta have an odd sweet taste, nothing terrible though. I try to keep up my protein as I'm a bit thin, & on the go a lot.
Try vitamn shoppe, or their website..I also like Body by Jake protein bars, really tasty & filling, I think he might have a protein drink as well.

It tastes nasty but there is this stuff called Jevity, it can be used for tube or oral feedings. When giving it orally, I always tried to add something to enhance the flavor but some say it is not bad. This particular kind is used a lot in hospitals and nursing facilities and depending on how/where you buy can be quite expensive. I think there is an off brand by Kroger? It is not advertised as being similar to Jevity but similar to Ensure I think. There is also stuff called 2cal. This does not require that you drink as much...but is better for an appetite stimulant I think.

Most health food stores have protein/meal replacement powder that you can make into liquids or shakes. Optimum is a good brand.

GNC will ass rape you on price. for ex- Optimum which is a fab brand for anything is 75+ for a 5lb jug of protein, on bodybuilding.com is 52. Muscle milk is crap- google the arsenic levels in it let alone the fat/carb content. I would say get yourself a casein/whey blend then add your fats and carbs- coconut oil and steel cut oats etc. Calculate your macros and eat a small caloric surplus with 1g protein fro every lean muscle pound on your frame. Balls to the wall weight session should round you out. Or just buy anavar lol, not srs, am i?

I really don't like GNC either..is there a Vitamin Shoppe by you? Or an independant health store? Whole Foods, don't really like them either, but maybe they could give you some good ideas

I have heard good things about Now Foods unflavored whey protein isolate that does not have any additives in it. I have not tried it yet but I am planning on it next time I have to buy protein. I cant remember where online they were but there are some recipes online for making your own weight gainer out of protein power to avoid the sugar and additives in off the shelf weight gainer. http://www.amazon.com/Foods-Whey-Pro...ate+unflavored

ok thanks guys! yeah GNC doesn't have the best reputation, its just that when i go to those places they look at me like im crazy when i say im trying to gain weight and say that they don't have anything except for guys trying to be body builders. i just want thick, round, fluffy, bouncy weight. not lean and wiry but not sloppy. i only hit the weights when i go to the gym, i get enough cardio from work.
for now i've just been chowing down on somewhat healthy fats like avocado, eggs, cheese, nuts, natural oils, whole wheat, fish, peanut butter etc. ill stay away from GNC, i guess they haven't changed
ill try the whey stuff first, and add my own calories...

My bf has this protein powder stuff called Syntha-6... there's no corn syrup in it, mostly whey protein and stuff. One scoop is 22g of protein with like 3g sugar. He's got the mochachino flavor that he puts in his coffee, and cookies and cream that just goes in milk. It's pretty good actually. I've been taking half a scoop a day to put some weight on as well.

Are you trying to gain muscle or fat, or both? Ensure drinks are garbage as are most replacement drinks. You need to overhaul your entire diet if you want to get thicker. It's about how much and what type of nutrients you're taking in. If you take in too many at the wrong time, you're going to store excess fat.

Protein powders that are high in calories such as Syntha 6 would be best after a high intensity weight lifting/training session.

Protein powder in general is just protein...same as eating a can of tuna or a 4oz chicken.

Do your clothes fit different and are you noticing changes in your body? The best thing to do is to go by what's going on with your body. You want to put on muscle but don't worry you won't look muscular or ripped as long as you have a decent amount of body fat, but not too much where you'd look sloppy. Gaining muscle will keep make you thicker yet firm and tight, and with that layer of fat you'll still look soft, which is what I think you're looking for. Definitely make sure you're eating at least 5 meals a day with protein in every meal. "clean"/whole foods such as lean meats, poultry, oatmeal, potatoes, veggies, fat free dairy, nuts and nut butters (be careful because only 1/4 cup or 2 tbsp has about 200 calories) etc. Lots of water. Try to avoid things high in sugar like fruits, if you have them have them in the beginning of the day or pre workout. Hope that helps!

Orgain, it's organic I think. You can get it at health food stores (including Whole Foods). Try to buy it by the case, on sale cause it's a bit pricey. It's low in sugar, comparatively, and comes in three flavors. The taste is pretty good once you get used to it.

my friend tried doing that but ended up with the diarrhea all the time from all the magnesium in them. So might want to use a product targeted for weight gain
