Default stategies for dealing with very loud clubs and/or hearing loss

So I'm finally old enough that many of my customers have better hearing than I do. I like to think of myself as a good conversationalist, but I quite often have no clue what the man is saying! Often I will talk into a customer's ear, only to have him respond with his mouth pointed away from my ear. Reminding him that if he finds it hard to hear voices in the club, other people probably do as well, can easily kill the "flow" or whatever, and will shatter the fantasy if he wants to think I'm 23. I'm surprised that I couldn't find threads on this. Please share your tips for talking with people you can't hear! Has anyone studied lip-reading, and if so, how? Did it appreciably improve your sales? I've found that watching silent movies and mimicking their exaggerated body language helps, but only if the guy is willing to accept that strip clubs are not the real world and it totally makes sense to do $17 shots with a dead movie star.

I certainly had this problem after five yrs working around jet engines & four+ yrs working in clubs! I just flat-out told customers that they had to speak up/turn toward me if they wanted to chat, b/c I could not hear them. Unfortunately sm of the clubs I worked in were so loud that they only needed to be told this one time.

I did see a suggestion once of bringing in a decibel meter. You can get them at places like RadioShack, I think. Bring one in to work, watch it spike & show it to the mgr b/c if it reads over a certain lvl they need to do smtg abt that as it is a violation of OSHA regs.

Although this thread was specifically about loud music, the general consensus was the earplugs are your best bet: https://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sh...light=earplugs There were a few recommendations for different types.

Mack's earplugs. They are comfortable and almost invisible. You will hear the sound source closest to you the best. I've been using them for years.

i just use it as an excuse to get super close and turn my body towards theirs when its loud..ill also comment on how loud it is to kind of hint that they need to speak so i can hear them when i first start talking. if its super loud ill often just cut to the chase to avoid the chit chat and "what?" " sorry i couldn't hear you, say that again?" stuff.
