Default Were you "fit" before you began stripping?

I ask because I used to look into modeling for artists, and I was told that a lot of models were dancers (dancing in general), athletes, people who yoga, or people who regularly do some sort of physical activity.
I was wondering if stripping is the same way, if it's necessary to be fit or strong before you begin stripping? It's clear that dancing and hustling is a lot more demanding than staying still a studio, and if artists are demanding that I be some super strong dancer/athlete just to stand still, then what's expected of new strippers? I was wondering if strength for stripping is something you should attain before you start, or if it's something you can build as you strip.

I don't know if I am fit, as I don't exercise or go to the gym but I guess I still 'work out' every day due to my lifestyle. I am slender and naturally toned, but I don't know how long I can dance before I tire out. Is it critical to begin a yoga regimen or run everyday or hit the gym before I start stripping?

Nope I wasn't. I wish to God I had been. Haha don't worry if you're not fit you're not alone. This industry is going down the shitter.

I was not FIT-fit but I had a very athletic background from b4 I started dancing, so it was just a matter of shaking off the rust & building the muscles back up. Dancing will tone you up PDQ if you do it full-time, esp if you start learning pole tricks.

Wow, quick responses! Thanks ladies ^^

Yeah simone same with me, I *look* fit but I think that's because I walk/carry stuff every day. I think my strength is down the shitters and I can't even reach my toes.

I am way too impatient for yoga (I feel like I am just sitting there), so I've been stretching, doing squats, push ups, and pull ups. I feel stupid and unsexy when I do this but it does help to dance at home, doesn't it?

I worked w/ a girl who was in her early 30s & she incorporated yoga into her stage sets. Not necessarily the poses, but the slow, fluid transitions between moves, full limb extensions, that sort of thing. She was one of my favourite girls to watch b/c she moved like water. So yoga is certainly helpful for flexibility & endurance, but it is not a requirement. It does help to dance or otherwise work out from home. I have had girls recommend Pilates as well. I have gotten squishy the last few months from not working out, so I am going to start doing pushups/stretches/core exercises at home too.

She sounds interesting, reminds me of that Bruce Lee quote lol! I was actually going to set my own 'niche' as well once I begin stripping. Speaking of yoga, I think I am doing something wrong or maybe I wasn't exposed to the good stuff because most yoga classes I've been to were about "sit in a cat position for 30 minutes and connect to the universe as you listen to this repetitive folk music"... I didn't feel any different afterwards.

I'll look into pilates, I think that's where a lot of squat techniques come from as well.

I can't speak for yoga either way, tho I have wanted to try it for ages since I have flexibility trouble stemming from muscle/joint injuries. Maybe Body Business will have sm suggestions. I hope you find smtg that works for you!

I wasn't in terrible shape, but I definitely wasn't a dedicated fitness enthusiast and my diet was shit. After a year of dancing, not only did I completely change my eating habits but I workout every day and am in the best shape of my life. I owe it several things: being in a bikini all the time motivated me to stay committed to a fitness regimen, having a flexible schedule allowed me to fit in gym time comfortably around my other priorities, and of course trying to master new pole tricks requires regular strength training. You definitely don't have to be in top shape to dance in most clubs, but for sure it helps!!!!! My money and energy level improved a lot.

That's exactly it. There's nothing to lose from working out regularly but being able to actually make money because of it is a nice incentive!

I was actually underweight before dancing, to the point of having girls tell me to put on some weight, I looked sick. I think dancing is what jump started my need for a healthy, regulated diet, exercise and self-care because 1) I was working and needed the energy, 2) I looked and felt better and 3) increased earnings.
Dancing really put into perspective how much time and effort I needed to put into my body because it is my business. And I plan on keeping up my routine well after I put away my heels too. Pole dancing in itself has provided a great amount of strength and toning in and of itself.

I did ballet my whole life until maybe a year before I started stripping. It made me well toned and very flexible, and I highly recommend it. It gives you a solid core and great ass and legs. I think it gave me a leg up with pole work, and definitely gave me an advantage performing in general. Worth a shot. lots of studios offer beginner classes for adults.
There is no reason to take it up the ass and then act all butthurt.

I had the strength and endurance necessary from all the weight training I do but not the look when I started. I really had to get my diet together to get that lean look.

I mean, I wasn't fat by normal standards but dancer standards are a little different. You don't have to be perfect to start though. LOL In my experience, most newbies aren't.

I was what I call "skinny fat.". Slender but not in shape. I got tired quickly during the first week and a half, two weeks, and used to hurt, BAD. One night of dancing and it felt like I did a full body work out, and someone had punched my knees repeatedly. Your strength will build up pretty quickly. I remember pulling a muscle trying to learn a pole trick because my arms weren't strong enough, and a week later mastering it with ease.

If you aren't when you take your first dancing job, you will be in a short period of time. Be sure to eat healthy foods and get plenty of water and rest.

This. I looked fit and toned and had been in the gym for years as well as doing my own exercise on the bedroom floor. But it was after I got into dancing that I got flexible, better balance and much more strength. Part of it came from the job, but a lot came from my own training because it's not like I could keep working and be in pain or injured.

Nope. I was in the mid 180's. However, I gain weight almost uniformly (except my thighs, they get fatter than everything else) and I'm a bit tall. I lost a good chunk in a few months working long shifts.

I am 5'4". I have danced at 110 lbs and 160 lbs. Strangely enough, I made the most money when I was fat and out of shape. I didn't realize how fat I had gotten LOL. If you have confidence and walk around like you're queen shit, which is what I did, customers will pick up on that and spend money on you.

I think I was alittle bit. I did yoga for about a year and half before I started dancing so I was pretty bendy/flexible when I started, I also had some upper body strength and a relatively strong core. However, I gained quite a bit of muscle most noticeably in my legs from dancing.

Since I've started, I realized that dancing is all about changing and evolving in terms of your fitness level, physique, looks, hustle ect. Its kind of one reason why I like it so much, you don't have to be the perfect image of yourself to start, you eventually will work your way to being the improved version of yourself.

Short answer, you don't have to be in shape, but it helps, but not worth waiting to get in shape first. Just get the ball rolling but stopping in for an audition tomorrow!
In another thread I answered tonight I said. "If you have to ask if you should get off your ass and do something, you should do it."

Getting your fitness level up will help you in almost everything you do. Higher energy levels, improved flexibility, generally a more positive outlook and sense of well being.

Yes being in shape before stripping is a good idea, but it's better just to get up and start stripping than waiting while you get in fit. You'll able to get extra exercise while you're in the club. Being half and/or fully naked all night is a great motivator to get fit! Plus you'd be leaving a lot of money on the floor by waiting. Learning to hustle while you're not in peak shape is useful too, you may need to use your mind more than your looks to hustle, so you'll get better at it.

Yes, I was fit when I started dancing (though I still had a bit of baby fat - I was curvier than I am now).

Dancing kicks pretty much everyone's asses into shape. After my first night of dancing, I couldn't walk normally for a solid week. Muscles were sore that I didn't even know existed.

I was fit for just having a baby 3 months prior.. Dancing gets you into shape if you stay away from the excessive alcohol.. The first month will be hard.. your muscles will hurt & you may even bruise.. I remember the first time I danced on stage it was a 3 song set & when I went to walk down the stairs I almost fell.. it hurt soo freaking bad!!!!! Epsom salt & lavender oil are your friends!
