Default Need a prepaid Visa that boyfriend can reload

I really need some advice about prepaid cards.

I need a prepaid Visa card, and it has to be one where my boyfriend can go reload money on the card by putting cash onto it - without me being there with the card.

Does anyone know any products you can do that with?

Basically it would be like $2000 per month, but the tricky part is he has to use cash (i.e. it can't come out of his account directly), and the card will be with me. Any ideas?

A regular bank account will do, when you get a bank account you get a debit card, and he can deposit money to your account, which it will go directly to the debit card.

Luvly, I'm not sure what you're really looking for. Your comment about BF being able to credit 'cash' to the card's account ... as well as not wanting to create a 'paper trail' between BF's bank account and the card's account ... imply that your requirements are somewhat 'special'.

In regard to a debit card account, regular cash deposits from the same 'anonymous' source are likely to lead to the bank generating a 'suspicious activity' report.

I'm thinking that if you were to open a regular debit card account, and your BF were to open an E-Wallet account, transfers could then be made into your debit card account without the direct creation of a 'paper trail' back to your BF's bank account.

I had a checking account at a major NY bank where he would deposit cash and the bank flagged it as suspicious for money laundering as you correctly predicted. They froze the account for 6 weeks to investigate and during that time I could not spend my own money. They finally released the hold and gave me 3 days to take the remaining balance out, and they closed the acct.

I am scared that my name is on some kind of money launderer list maintained by the banks, or that when I try to open a new account the same thing is going to happen again.

I thought a prepaid card that could be reloaded would be a solution. There is a money gram and western union place near where my bf lives. I was hoping someone knows about a product like a visa card that can be reloaded with cash. The master card offered through money gram can be reloaded with cash, but the card needs to be presented when the reload is done.

I spent about 30 minutes on the payoneer site and I still could not understand what it's for and if that would work for me.

Other than that, the best idea I can come up with is for boyfriend to open a checking account somewhere, and give me the bank card. And then he can make cash deposits to his own account and I can withdraw. But I really don't want him to see where I spend money… and I don't think the banks want someone to use the card like that. Once burnt twice shy, I am scared of having funds frozen or inaccessible again.

Do you file taxes on the money he gives you? as income or as a gift?

To get on a money laundering watch you list which floats between banks you have to do alot more then what it sounds like happened.
A report was more then likely sent to the IRS. Dodd Frank did create regulation that forces reloadable cards to also be monitored and reported for cash activity.

^^^ if your account was forcibly closed, odds are that your name is on somebody's 's#!t list' ( Chex Systems ? ). As Vamp implies, this may or may not come back to haunt you when attempting to open a new bank account. And as Vamp also points out, the recent Dodd-Frank law adds yet one more official 'obstacle' against being able bring 'anonymous' cash into the banking system.

At this point, I really don't have a foolproof answer for you. One thing to try would be to attempt opening a new account at a local credit union. Credit unions often have more 'latitude' than commercial banks. You and your BF could then both set up Paxum accounts ... which allow for 'anonymous' funds transfers between account holders. Thus moving money would involve #1 your BF depositing cash in his bank account, #2 BF uploading funds to his Paxum account, #3 transferring funds between Paxum accounts, and #4 you downloading funds from your Paxum account to your credit union account. Such a setup would eliminate the need for any cash transactions involving your credit union account.

I used to work at a Moneygram site and Westen Union is a very similar system. While it was a lot quicker to load a card (Netspend, Rushcard, etc) it was not required to be with them. They did need to card number and, if they were loading another person's card, cardholder's info (Name, address, phone #). Both companies are required to file similar paperwork as the banks for large transactions. If a transaction is over $900 they have paperwork they fill out for it. They will record his info from his ID/License, and who it is going to. A transaction of $2000+ he will need his SS card so they can record that info. If he makes large card loads like this frequently, at the same location every time, the business will have to fill out the Suspicious Activities Report just like the bank did.

That being said, there is a $999.99 per 24 hours load limit on most prepaid cards. There is a fee per load (avg $4.99 at my location). There are also fees from each individual company for checking balances, ATM withdrawls, etc. I would imagine that each card company would have similar reporting responsibilities for the money that is loaded after a certain amount.

Do they have the brand Amscot or Check chasing store in the state where your boyfriend lives? I am fairly certain both of them offer some type of service like this. Or he can put 6,000 or 8,000 into an account and have an auto-transfer set up once a month for the 2,000...
