Default Healing Removed Freckles & Moles

So I just got back from the dermatologist and I have to get a bunch of big freckle things cut out and biopsied for melanoma. They can only do 2 at a time so I still have several more visits to get through. I'm pretty sure these are going to leave a scar (I haven't taken off the bandages yet!) in the shape of a circle. (They were surgically cut out/off and then electro shocked to stop bleeding? That's what the gadgets looked like they were doing, but I tried not to watch.)

So what do you use to rapidly heal these? And hopefully fade the scar? She wanted to sell her all her creams (she's has a whole skin care line), but I bought one item and it smells terrible and has a bunch of parabens in it, so I don't want to use her stuff. I'm about to get a BA (next month), so maybe I should just use his scar gel stuff? I would trust his more than hers, because the product I purchased already was terrible.

Did they suggest anything? Are u sensitive? My go to is aloe, but sometimes it can sting if there's a raw wound (I always use the non-alcohol) How about natural vitamin e oil (avacado oil)?

Its actually not painful. I got it done a few hours ago. They injected me with a novicane shot (well, twice because I always need extra), and then they cut it out/off, and then used some electro device that made some weird radioactivity noise. The tools looked scary, but I didn't watch them do it because I knew it would freak me out. It didn't really hurt at all, but I have a higher pain tolerance.

Its just I would prefer not to have ugly scars. I've had some pretty deep ones, and my body always heals them after like a year though.

I don't think there are any quick fixes, but silicone sheets like ScarAway work really well. The only downside is they have to be worn for at least 12 hours a day.

So I looked at it and it looks like a cigar or larger cigarette burn. One time at a bar, a guy accidently burnt me with his cigarette and it healed completely in less than 6 months, scar and all. I didn't do anything special except moisturize. So I feel like these will be gone in less than a year

So I think they did a shave biopsy. I found this description, which seems like what they did:

"For this type of biopsy, the doctor first numbs the area with a local anesthetic. The doctor then shaves off the top layers of the skin with a small surgical blade. Usually just the epidermis and the outer part of the dermis are removed, although deeper layers can be taken as well if needed. Bleeding from the biopsy site is then stopped by applying an ointment or a small electrical current to cauterize the wound."

If that makes any difference in the healing process?

So I got the callback today that the ones that got taken off have precancerous cells around the edges. So they told me I have to wait for these to heal, and then they have to do what they did (a shave biopsy) AGAIN, to make sure all those cells come back non-precancerous (and non-cancerous of course). So that's... annoying.

So now only will these probably take like 2-3 months just to heal (not to mention the scar), then they have to do it AGAIN lol. But its better than having skin cancer, so I can't complain. I'm getting implants in between, but my doctor says thats okay.

I didn't realize my first round was only 6 months ago. I thought it had been longer. They are actually healing pretty well for only being 6 months PO! They'll def be almost gone by 1 year PO at this rate. Probably gone completely at 2 years PO.

I'm a spotted skin person and get the large spots taken off once a year if they say they look pre cancerous. The biopsys don't typically leave a scar, it's the second time in that fucks you up. If the biopsy comes back irregular they have to go in deeper and dig out all the cells around it then stitch it back up. I have two noticeable large scars from this. One on my lower back and one on my middle upper back. And it sucks. Better then being dead from cancer though. Get checked once a year everybody!

My sister had some moles where they had to do what Twinkle Toes described, stitched back up and all, and they left some lasting scars. They have slowly been fading over the years. I learned through some bike accidents that the best way to heal and form less gnarly scars is to keep the wound covered and moist with petroleum jelly until it is completely healed. Never let it scab. That way the new skin cells can "migrate" to where they need to be.

So when you brought up your concerns about scarring she just told you you could buy her stuff? Oh, medicine...

I am also covered in freckles and moles, and never once have I been checked. I have a derm appointment coming up though, and I'm going to bring it up. Do you basically get naked and they just look you over from top to bottom? Cause my derm is really cute, and I would probably feel totally awkward.

You put on a paper gown and keep your underwear on. Good drs will look over everything meticulously! Even through scalp. My half brothers grandfather died from melanoma on his head which he never knew about. Bob Marley died from melanoma under his big toenail which was a black spot. He thought it was just a bruise from hitting it. Don't feel awkward they look at naked people all day for a living.

^^^ I had 2 well-reviewed derms look me over completely. Yes, nude. The second derm used a little gadget she put over each freckle to see if it was a certain color under the gadget. The first derm did not do that, but I wish she would have.

The second derm also told me to leave the rest of my freckles and that I have "atypical mole syndrome" which is why so many of mine are not even. But she said its normal for my body, so I don't need to really remove more freckles because there's no point when like half of them are already atypical-looking. That does mean I am at a very high risk for skin cancer, but its okay because I avoid the sun. Derm #1 wanted to remove over 20, which is why I went for a second opinion, and I'm glad I did.

Mine all scarred, but half of them have gone away mostly. I was not stitched up. It is a giant circle that looks like this: (not me), only a scar now. My circles are a bit larger than that, and slightly raised. Silicone scar strips have helped. I had the shave biopsy done, not the other forms of biopsy. Shave biopsy, at least for me, did not hurt at all! They numbed me beforehand with a needle.

Both derms were in Beverly Hills, so I expected them to be good and well-experienced. I wanted to take this seriously since skin is so visible, so I feel like its like choosing a plastic surgeon. In fact, a plastic surgeon would probably have been a better choice for this than a derm. Or I at least wish I would have gone to Dita Von Teese's derm in Orange County (I have his name if any of you want it!) since she is so meticulous about her skin.

I later found out that derm #1 got her license taken away for several years, and now she is basically just a derm mill. I did think it was strange that like 20 people had appointments at the same time in different rooms. The derm would room hop after spending like 1 minute in each room. She wasn't even the one that did the biopsies, which I didn't like, because I feel like my scars could have been a lot smaller and healed a lot better. Even my second derm said the same thing. That the scars were way too large and that I should not have let them dry out like the staff at derm #1's office told me. I think derm #1 paid the 30k per year to have her bad yelp reviews deleted lol.

But its over with now and I'm glad I didn't have like all 20 taken off, and just settled for a handful. Most of the scars have healed and there's only 2 that are even that noticeable. I think I'm going to get those lasered and use a peel on those to help them go away even more.

It really wasn't a bad experience, so don't let my hypercriticisms freak you out lol. Just don't let your wounds/scars ever dry out!! I feel like mine wouldn't have scarred if I didn't let them dry out like derm #1 told me to do. And even her paper instructions said to let it dry out. I think she just wanted to upsell me products and laser treatments. She told me I HAD to buy her (shitty) ~*multivitamin cream*~ (full of chemicals) during my first visit. I bought it and its sooooo bad lol. That was totally a red flag right there though.
