Default Tips & Tricks For Camroom Background Colors

    Hi everyone!

Was wondering if someone has some advice about best background colour that makes a (fake ) tanned skin look more tanned.
Its so much work for me to get a bit tanned since my skin doesnt react to fake tan that great (my partner uses the same tanmousse and his skin gets more dark much easier). So it kinda sucks to have a background coloure that isnt optimal.

I am moving out of my house in some months, and am allready thinking about what colour my new backgroundwalls will be.
Right now I am thinking about light colours (I use softboxes, and right now I have a bright pink background, but it looks way darker on cam than it is in real life; it looks a bit purple on cam badly enough.. so I guess I have to get a lighter colour to make it look on cam like the colour I want).
I am thinking about #1 mint/ or very light green or turquoise
    # lightblue
#2 lighter but still a popping colour of pinkshade
(I love turquoise, but I dont know if it is wise to choose a coolcoloured background colour...)

    What would you recommend?

Well?? I definitely do NOT recommend dark colors.. no Bueno.. and not to light either.. a happy medium color I think is best. Even when I wear black .. my whole cam just changes colors on me.

Yeah dark is a nogo.. Sucks though, I love to wear black lingerie but it doesnt work for my skintone and room on cam since it absorbs the light...
Hmm to light would probally result in white-spots on cam and will wash out... Its hard to find a happy medium though.
Thinking about starting light, and just adding different layers of darker colours if it turns out to light on cam

If you try some reds it should help, but it's going to be hell to repaint.

If you can use your color balance you can appear to be more tan, but you aren't going to be able to wear much red or pink. It will amplify those colors and will make it look terrible. If you just increase the color balance to appear more warm you will look pretty nice, like you've got some color, but honestly I think there's a niche for those than are very light skinned. This is especially great if you have lighter colored hair.

I think most girls that are lighter skinned try to tan and look very dark and some guys really don't like that. I have lighter hair (but have dyed it very dark) and people seem to really love that you're not one of the girls that seem "high maintenance".

If no one is telling you that you are too white and need to tan or get some sun, I don't see why it really matters, ya know?

I just made my background walls a soft warm medium orange-pink that looks good on cam. I had it butter white before & was looking kinda dirty white on cam, on another room i used to work from i painted one wall in amazing nice strong darker purple but on cam it looked brownish and somehow it changed everything regarding light, not good.
Now depends also on the light tone u use (warm, cold, day light, etc) also on ur camera quality/ settings. I rarely work days so my setup is made to give a good lighting using artificial light, my bedding & colors i wear are always the ones that look good on cam with these settings, same for make up, i have clothes i cant wear on cam cause the colors dont look good simply.
I always adjust 'backlight' on camera settings cause my cam is very very sensitive to light & colors, i do this during a pvt also cause when i move camera for shows light & colors changes again as i add more light; i have a Creative HD wide webcam, i like & hate this cam lol.

Thanks for the advice anonymous camgirl, justsometwat and AliceFun!
Iam also only using artificial light since I only have a very small window (from the side; and I hate light coming from the side, making hard shadows on my face). Using yellowtoned blanket on top of my softboxes since pink coloures make my skin look to orange/red.

About clothing; I personally gave up on anything satinlike/shiny fabric (had a lot of satinlike bra's) because they mess up the colours. Also neon pink and mesh doesnt work for me at cam.

I wear a lot of pink though on cam, so maybe I should take that in consideration too and give the walls another colour than the one that I wear most, too make it pop...
Oh well still have some time to think about it =)

me too, and if i wear anything blue everything turns a horrible yellowish tint, i guess it depends on what cam you use and what colors look best on you though.

i would buy one of these things http://www.amazon.com/BLUE-Pack-Disp.../dp/B009HAHZ84 and pin it up to test how the color looks with your cam before you paint the room

I was thinking of making a thread like this.... Background color vs Skin tone. I noticed that white walls wash me out. I have black curtains up but like @Anonymous camgirl said its too dark. For some reason I want some fuchsia pink curtains, teal curtains, or silky pink or teal fabric. I was thinking about getting curtain rods and putting them up on the wall so that I can easily change my background color....would be way easier trying to test colors than having to constantly stapling them to the wall.

I didn't really plan this out, but I painted my room a dusty-warm-pinkish-purple(?) color just because I loved the color so much that it really helps me be happy on cam. A nice side effect was that it naturally makes the light in the room seem more pink, so I no longer have to use my pink light bulbs, which made the room very hot. Now I just use regular CFLs with the same "warm pink light" effect. So think about the effect your paint will have on the light in your room. You mentioned that you are hanging a yellow cloth over your lighting, so maybe painting the room yellow would be nice? I think it would look very cheery and sunny. Plus, it seems like tan ladies look way better in yellow than pale chicas like me.

The other thing that happened in my room is that I have a giant window right behind the area where I cam (it's about 6ft x 6ft). Normally that's not recommended, since you would like your natural light shining on your face, not behind you. However, it's a small room, so I only have a couple set-up options. Also, the window looks out on a covered porch and almost never gets much light, so I just use my lamps all the time. What's nice about the window is that I put up curtains, and then realized that the curtains are like a backdrop that I can change anytime I want! Even if you don't have a window behind you, you could still hang up a curtain rod (make sure you find the studs when you drill!), and hang really tall curtains. Since your cam probably wont show all the way to the top of the curtain, it will be hard to tell that there's no window behind it. If you buy a few pairs of cheaper curtains in different colors, you can test them out without too much worry. Then just use the ones you like in rotation. It will look a little more "real-girl-at-home" than hanging a sheet or backdrop behind you.

I'm excited for you - picking colors is so much fun! Please post a photo of your paint sample when you make a decision.

The worse decision I made was going from pure white to TWO diff colors. In the store AWESOME! on the swatch AWESOME
    I FUCKING HATE THEM. lol
Why i do this shit? idk? Boredom?

WHITE IS MY COLOR. ALL WHITE. color added with decor and pillows. Never had a encoder issue before I painted the walls.
Im going back all white ASAP. btw lol its been like a year?

I enjoy white, red, black (minimal black)
with any kind of animal print ... must have the animal print lol its a must

heads up.. encoder hates yellow and orange tones

I love this idea and it works until moved my whole cam set up lol

heads up on this for you , make sure the silk is more matte than shine/reflective .. it will crash the encoder.
In all my encoder crashing days lol this is one I had a issue with. I dropped the silk curtains and hung a sheet , noticed immediately the pixel and crash was no longer happening
The lights reflects from silk I was using bounced the bit rates causing crashes

I have seen models use them and I notice when she moves her cam away from that backdrop , her cam is much clearer. I had to perv her lol "why can she use silk but i cant? " aaaaahhhhbooooohooooo go cry in the corner

I was looking to this thread for some tips as I moved my cam space and need a new background. Being as this thread is also in curveywinona's bookmarks I thought I would ad a link to a website I found to explain skin tone, background colors and lighting in simple terms as in relation to each other.

What works for one girl my not work for you.

But you can experiment, by going to walmart getting a flat sheet, they sell fitted and flat sheets all by themselves pretty cheaply. Pick up several in colors you like, pin it to a wall behind you. Turn on the cam & take a few screen shots or 1 minute videos. Now, you can see what the customer sees without out buying paint or painting until you figure out which one works best for you.

Once you find the main color that works best for you. At the hardware store you can get some white board I think it is called. it is like cardboard, but white and light weight, you can paint them in the different shades of the color that worked before and start the process over again with those little samples of paint in different finishes.

No more guessing, money and time in painting a whole wall.

Now, let's really up the fun. Light filters. http://www.amazon.com/Cowboystudio-C...or+photography

    http://www.amazon.com/LimoStudio-Pho...or+photography

I find it all fun and exciting...

I have that set up in my spare bedroom so I can quickly change out the whole room and and feel with curtains and bedding.

^Yes! I use those filters on my softboxes (as well as some coloured lights you can get at the hardware store sometimes) just clipped on with clothespins. It's fun for artsy videos, wouldn't recommend for regular camming though, guys find artsy colours annoying, the bastards
If the room is totally dark and you just have one light on with a filter or gel, the look is really dramatic. I'd post pics of my vampire vid using the red, and an artsy fetish vid using the blue but it's kinda OT.

    I'd like to see it!

My wall is kinda orange-ish/brown-ish mix. haha. BAD CHOICE, but it is the only room I can cam in at the moment. Next month, I am gonna look for a nice backdrop and use it with my backdrop system. I want to have it set up in corner, so I will have to buy strong PVC pipes and a 3-way PVC elbow (to support the weight in the corner). It is gonna be nice and easy to pack away when my nosy family comes over.

I am going to buy a tension rod (shower curtain rod) today. I just tried the staple gun approach to making a canopy...yea... I am not crafty lol

My bed is catty-cornered so this should work great.

BBs, I'm actually concerned about certain wall/tempaper and skin tone. I know that purple lip stick on my medium skintone stands out but I'm not sure how it's going to fare in my background as a wallpaper. My theme for my office is going to be morrocan elegance. Purples and golds with either cream, or white furnishings (chaise, desk, etc). Based on what I wear, I'm not sure how that's going to come off on cam. My idea is to make my cam room as wealthy looking as possible. Any tips? TIA

That's lovely, but won't the dark absorb the light? I am sort of regretting putting up a "Persian" carpet for a backdrop and luxurious pillows in jewel tones for my cam space (I did a sort of harem theme) because it is so damn hard to light and the reflective colours are not flattering. My studio space is huge so that doesn't help matters. Maybe focus on a lighter, warmer background with some purple accents? I like the idea of projecting wealth and prosperity though. It's what I was trying to do with my harem room, sort of, that and sluttiness

We have a similar style, Kortney. I used some tempaper on my walls (I have an accent wall), and bought some better sheets, blankets, and etc. My earnings plummeted for 3 days (I guess guys were getting used to it) and then my hourly average doubled. Make yourself look as successful and rich as possible, it works. The guys seem to love fancy shit.

That's what I was thinking as well but the room has a ceiling fan with studio light bulbs, a decent sized window for natural light, and I plan on putting a 3-point lighting system in the room. Also, a white and gold room divider/screen will be next to the wall as well to hide the back light which will shine through. so I suppose it will only show a portion of the background. I'm hoping that white furniture, rug, and all of those lights will help balance out the background but I'm not sure. I actually wanted to go with yellows, purples, and golds like your harem room idea but decided more of a classier approach. I suppose I'll find out but I'll do a test before putting it up permanently. Also, the background is only going on the back wall. The rest of the walls will stay white. I'm also hoping the high ceiling helps fill up the space more. I prefer camming from my bedroom but the ceilings in there are 40 feet high O.o

Purples and golds with either cream, or white furnishings (chaise, desk, etc). Based on what I wear, I'm not sure how that's going to come off on cam. My idea is to make my cam room as wealthy looking as possible. Any tips? TIA

I always cringe when I see cammodels with a photography type background... or a sheet. I think men want to see a girl who is home alone in her bedroom or home... a place that looks classy. My goal too is to make my cam room look as wealthy as possible. I think I should look into wallpaper because I'm so fricken white I blend in with my white walls haha.
