Default single moms: who watches the kids while you work?

Normally my aunt watches my 6 month old while Im at school but the arrangement isnt going to work because I dont want her to know Im dancing. I have to find a sitter but Im wondering if 6 months is too young to be leaving her with a stranger and working late at night?

when i started, my mom watched my son. now that i have a serious boyfriend, he watched him for me. could you just make up a job that has the hours that you keep? and keep all your stuff in a locker, etc. i've never had a stranger watch him til the wee hours of the morning, i can't imagine that would be easy to find ( or find somebody you trust enough with a kid that young)

I have family watch mine but like you vixenluv they don't know I dance so I can't work as much as I want and sometimes even had to flat out lie about where my time is being spent and why I need them to watch the kid.

You could hire someone only if you carefully screen to make sure they are a trusted childcare professional. This way you have more freedom to work when you want and not have to explain too much. If I was you I'd wait till the kid can talk so they can tell you whats going on but if you can't do that then maybe use a nanny cam to keep an eye on things while you are away.

There are ''grave yard" shifts out there just tell her that you found an over night job at a hotel or call center something of that sort. your baby is too young and should be cared by someone you trust good luck

I am having the same problem as you, my baby is 6 months as well. I have a babysitter where I drop off the baby before the shift and pick him up after and then he goes to daycare. This really sucks for me and him and I need to find a different solution.

I'm thinking of starting to work dayshift and then having the nanny pick him up from daycare... aaahh it's not easy..

I have been waiting for someone to bring this up because I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't have family watching their kid. My mom is married and her and my stepdad don't like kids and I have no family or friends who I trust with my kid. I have a sitter who has a licensed daycare and she is 24 hours. My daughter is 2 now but even when I worked retail when she was about 5 months she never made me feel bad about leaving her overnight once when I had to work Black Friday. Now she thinks I bartend. I drop my daughter off at 11:30 then get to work at 12 o' clock. I leave at 7:30 to be there by 8. If I want to work at night she encourages me to do it. She's amazing. Maybe if you find someone who is licensed and loves kids you can work something out.

In the interests of honesty I have to say, your plan to keep this secret will fail you. Someone, somewhere will inevitably find out.

That said, IMHO, yes 6mos is too young to leave with a stranger. Might be worth talking with your aunt... or working day shift.

Why don't you try www.care.com or another reputable childcare website? I think they have to submit background checks etc. and there are ratings as well. I'm a single mom as well to an 8 year old boy, so I mostly work day shift and leave early to get him or my long term boyfriend will watch him if I want to work a night shift. Good luck to you!
