I think the suggestions for webcam modeling are great, although I don't know much about it or the amount the girls make since I've never done it. I know dancing will get you out of your parents quickly because it can be great money. I would look into the webcam as an option though if you are too nervous to dance.

If you decide to start working in a club maybe you should take baby steps. I was the same way and my first job at a club was a coat check/door girl. Then I was a shot girl for awhile then finally moved up into dancing once I got comfortable (and saw the amount of money I could make!)

I would not drink on the job if I were you. Even to "loosen up". I would be afraid you might get drunk and who knows what could happen. Last thing you want is to be sloppy drunk in a strip club...WHILE YOU ARE WORKING especially. yikes.

The guys can be assholes sometimes and the girls can be catty. I would work on getting thicker skin, not only if you're going to be in this line of work but for your own good. People talk shit, especially in that environment. Think of what you're doing...you're gonna be on a stage in next to nothing, dancing down to nothing, in front of a bunch of strangers who are all judging you and possibly jealous girls who just see you as competition. Confrontations definitely happen here. You need to be able to just ignore it and move on. You can't let some ignorant comment, a bad night, a pissed off manager, a jealous coworker or not getting hired at a place you audition at bring you down. Keep your head up and your eye on the prize and ignore everything else.

    Good luck !

Just be aware..you do trade a piece of your soul to this industry. I've said it before, this industry has given me a lot, but it's also taken a lot. Would I have it any other way? Fuck no. Think I'd be able to wake up at 5pm, feed my pet crocodile rib eye and get new tattoos with a 9-5 vanilla job? Fuck no! My job is the longest and most dysfunctional relationship I've been in to date.

Tempest had a good point there. This industry will CHANGE you. Just be aware of that before getting into it.

You sound a lot like me when I first started. I was sweet, sensitive, naive, definitely didn't have thick skin, and anxiety.
Nine years later, the girl I was then is GONE.

If you end up going for it, start out in a dive! Low house fees and lower expectations for inexperienced dancers. Also lower pressure to make megabucks right off the bat. I'm so glad that my first club was a dive. They feel more familial and supportive than the bigger, nicer clubs.

I started out dancing with tons of anxiety (I would get those super-attractive red splotches all over my neck & face). I never drank at work because I understood that if I had to drink to be there, then it probably wasn't the right place for me. I wouldn't talk to any of the customers unless they came up to me first...for the first year! It took me a good year to get used to being in that environment. Then I got serious about the money...and the rest is history.

I think it was J.D. who said "This industry takes something from everyone, and you won't know what it is until it's gone." Definitely rings true for me, though I wouldn't have changed a thing about my experience (the good, the bad, and the ugly).

Haha, I haven't danced regularly since 2010! I still dabble, but not very often. I burned out hard from 2009-2010; ever since then, I haven't managed to work more than once every six months or so... I call it "CSB" (chronic stripper burnout) - even started my own thread on it!

I think you might want to try it ! You'd be amazing at what you can do when you have a "role" to fill. I could have never danced anywhere close to my home area .... but clubs a bit away with a lot of anonymity were great.
There are downsides that have nothing to do with adult work to be aware of ( the main thing being late hours ). Along with the late hours , you'll have heavy weekend hours ( usually ) which can strain you socially if most people you know do the 9-5 thing.

To succeed, your best bet is to audition at the diviest strip joint you can find. Make sure you are prettier than any of the other dancers working there. That will boost your self confidence and thicken your skin for when a random guy makes a stupid comment.

If you *know* you are the prettiest one in the club, it goes a long way toward building self confidence in this atmosphere.

You could just try it for a weekend to get a taste and see if it feels right...or participate in one of the amateur contests some clubs have. I've danced at some clubs that just didn't fit and quit a week later (if you do quit, always talk to the manager and be nice about it so you leave that door open if you decide to go back). But, It's not like you have to make a huge commitment to it right away unless you decide to go full time.

A lot of customers are complete assholes. They will make you cry. Sorry, but you seem really sensitive and I'd hate To see someone getting into this job fucked up emotionally & physically(anxiety meds and alcohol) real quick. Your job shouldn't have to make you want to do those things.

Do waitressing or bartending. If not in a strip club, look into nice pricey steak houses. Even with that, you need experience with bartending. My little sister bartends, so I know. Places that look really busy. Popular bars, etc..

    Good luck to you

I work in a call center now and I pretty much get drunk to deal with how stressed the job makes me and how much I hate it (I don't go to work drunk though). I couldn't help but laugh because it's so true no job should make you feel that way. Most people quit after being on the phone in a call center for 1 day. I have no choice because it's work here or be homeless (I am too overweight to strip- I am losing weight though).

I can really feel everyone on having thin skin, anxiety, being shy, etc. That's how I am but working in sales in a call center has taught me how to at least appear thick skinned and be a bit more demanding. So, from what I know a job like this will probably help you progress and become a stronger person. My job at least helped me be more assertive. While I hade the f**k out of my job I know it will help with my new ventures.

So true, I have worked in more than a few call centers! Can you cam a bit?

"Overweight" is very subjective and very regional I've discovered. -_-

For example in PA I'm considered "anorexic" and "toothpick with water balloons" but if I were to go to say, Denver who knows? I'd probably be morbidly obese!!!!!
