    Default Wordpress template help!

    Hey ladies,

I need some help with wordpress. Does anyone know if there is a template (preferably free) that will allow me to have a static front page? Meaning I want the blog that updates to be on a different page or tab and when they go to my domain it goes to more of a welcome page instead of the blog. I can create pages with all the templates I've tried but I can't figure out how to make one of them my static main page that everyone sees first.

Or if there is not, what is the best place to have an info site at. It's not a membership site but kind of a catch all for all things about me. My links to all my stores, pay sites, cam sites, etc. plus personal blog entries and that sort of thing. I just want a static main page.

I have no idea if this is the layout you are looking for, but I know ZeeTasty has a static front page.

Almost any of the basic templates will allow a static front page, but you can search for templates with that as an attribute under the themes section. Off the the top of my head I know 2012 does it and is also responsive, but to make any page the homepage of your site you just go under settings ->reading then you will see the option to set a page as static. I don't know any theme where it doesn't work. Hope that helps.

Gah, seriously I feel like a dork for not being able to find that on my own. I love the template I have so I'm glad I don't have to change it!

I'm working on making a Wordpress tutorial. I'll make sure to include the static front page stuff in it.

Wordpress takes a while to learn, I had to take an online class to get decent at it so don't feel bad!

A static front page usually never requires any extra coding or plugins. It can be done right in the settings on wordpress. If you try using a plugin it may word but its going to slow down your website. It's not needed at all. Depending on your theme though it may be in a different section. Some themes don't have the options but they are usually premium themes that are for online stores, or apps, etc. If you are using any free theme on wordpress or a blog theme you can do this right in the settings.

Try clicking "themes" on your left sidebar. Then "customize" there should be a dropdown menu of whether to have the front page include a blog or a static page.

If it's not there just do a little more digging there will be an area where it asks if you want your front page to be a static post or a blog with your recent posts. Sometimes it's in your menu area.
