Hm.. never heard them called probies before.

^ Me neither, never encountered that term.
"Some performers dismissed me as a pervert who’d disguised himself as a journalist to try to connect with them outside the confines of the site. Others mocked me, insisting I focus my professional efforts on bringing light to worthier causes, like Syria. Half the models banned me from their chat rooms permanently."
Yeah, that would about sum up my reaction to something like this.
Okay, seriously......did someone ACTUALLY just bash Pepper in the article comments for how much she makes? WTF is wrong with people?!?
Thanks for making the article, it sheds a new light on webcam modelling but too bad its on someone who isn't very successful in the industry. People are going to think all webcam models aren't making very much money.
I was thinking to myself while reading the article that it was refreshing to see an article that doesn't pretend that we all make $10,000 a week.

^Exactly what I was thinking.
I think the majority of girls probably make around that amount (from what I've seen on camming forums over the years). Sure, there's some who make way more but there's no shame in making an average livable wage. Honestly I'm almost kind of bored of reading articles about cam models who make ridiculous amounts of money.
When I did my research on camming before I started, I found a vid about how much cam models make realistically. Her earnings for the month was around 900 bucks. So I don't see why people say pepper's earnings were so low, that might be all she needs at the moment.
hahaha oh hey everyone!
He misquoted me...at the time he interviewed me he only asked what I make on cam4 not the other sites and content sales I make. At the time cam4 was dicey so I estimated $800/month. [shrug] That was back in October. Things have evened out nicely since then, but I'm certainly no mac pimp on cam4 thats for sure. Now if he'd asked what I made on chaturbate and mygirlfund combined...he would have had a more accurate number. But he kind of only focused on cam4 sooooooo he was also only focusing on camming itself.
lol trust me, it was amusing reading it. Half of my friends who read it were all concerned thinking I was whoring myself out for only $800/month >< hahaha I had to explain to them that the article was sort of misquoting. There is also time to factor into this. I didn't start seriously camming on cam4 [like more than twice or so a week] until January, and my shifts were like one hour to three tops....so whatever if people assume I must be broke cos I don't claim to make bazillions. I don't work for cam4 so I wasn't going to lie and say I make sooooo much $$ and it's sooo easy and everyone get an account now and be rich like me!!! ><
I liked the article otherwise. It was pretty honest
I've never heard of "probies" either. It almost makes them sound like criminals or something. Like they are getting off probation.
The article was nice and yes I also took notice at that really lousy comment made. I think the problem is that they called it her career so they assumed that a career should be something that provides a livable wage for most people. $800 a month as the only income someone receives wouldn't be enough for the average person. I think they left out important details like "part time" , "while she's a student", as an additional source of income etc ALSO MAJOR PART they left out was " One of the sites she works on"..
There's another major part about the income that people should notice. ... The site that was mentioned " CAM4". Out of all of the token sites out there Cam4 isn't really like MFC. $800 a month on cam4 as a female performer is like making $5k a month. They have no clue how much credit she should get for being able to pull $800 out of those stingy members lol.
On MFC, If 10-20% of a model's room tips towards a show , then on Cam4 it's more like 0.5-1% that will tip for a show.
Anyways I think this piece was more so for CAM4 viewership to bring in more paying customers. There are a few MFC models signing up to Cam4 brining with them their customer base which mean the site should see a significant increase in token package purchases.
Even to add to this many models today have a combo vanilla job+ cam on the side. I noticed more members are asking me "what do you do for a living" and my face gets all twisted up like "wait what??" Personally I feel I don't do well with members that want to view my job as something I just do in my spare time vs full time work. They tend to give off the attitude they are "helping a friend" rather than paying for a service but that's neither here nor there. I enjoyed this piece and yes she rocks if she can bring in $800 a month on Cam4.
Also the 10K a week type of cam model tends to be a Top Model for sites like maybe MFC , SM and Naked. Still those sites have a huge amount of U.S. traffic where most money is spent. Once they see how models should get tipped many follow the mold or go down in camscore seeking a cheaper rate of play.
Well said Cherry!!
