or curls that are curled away from their face? Is that obtainable with a perm? That is how I like to style my hair every single day and everyone loves it. I'm too lazy to look for a picture right now, but I am hoping people know what I'm talking about.

I don't know much about perms, but I achieve that look with electric curlers.
It's easy to do, looks beautiful, and if you use the right products isn't damaging to the hair.

Nah, that's obtained from curling the hair from straight. Curling irons will do the trick but it will take ages. I like the MiraCurl PRO http://miracurlpro.com/ Also, whenever you're heat styling use a heat protection spray. But no matter what you use it will still damage your hair every time, so try not to do it too often.

I can only achieve that look with dry, cold rollers. Like the kind you sleep in over night. From Sallys.

GlamourRouge, if you buy the electric curlers it saves a lot of time. You just put the curlers in your hair while they're hot, wait 10-15 till they cool off, take them out and spritz a little hairspray and your good to go!
I'm not sure if they sell the electric ones at Sally's. I got a Paul Mitchell set at my hair salon for $250.

I used to perm my hair in the 80s and early 90s, which definitely added thickness to my long but baby fine hair. However, at least for me, perms meant damage and breakage, and didn't look great when growing out. To achieve that wavy look without using chemicals or heat, I either put the hair in a braid while it's still damp, or twist it all up and put it in a bun. The hair becomes wavy when you keep it like that for a while and let it back down, and without risking damage. Try it and see if you like it!

Keratin blow out is how they do it. You can do it at home if you have the patience. It takes a couple of hours to achieve the look, but the style will last several days with only minor touch ups.

Those ones never stay in my hair . My hair goes flat within an hour every single time, even with hairspray.

Is that the same as a Brazilian blow out?

Well, a lot's gonna depend on the hair you're workin' with..I see a lot of 'beach/texture' sprays, maybe they'd help. Also new type curling irons out.

Electric curlers can only work if they are let to cool entirely. The key with hair is that, when your hair is wet or hot it is malleable because the proteins are pliable. You'll notice you can "stretch" your hair follicles at that point. Your hair has to dry COMPLETELY all the way through and/or cool down to room temperature (not even just warm, it has to be cool or cold). That makes the keratin proteins bind to each other again and will hold your curls for MUCH longer. Also, too much "after" product (especially hairspray) is not what you want to do. When your hair is wet, put in a mousse or better a "curl balm" in, roll those curls, and let it dry AND THEN COOL completely. The fastest way to get droopy curls is for the curls to be still warm or damp when you "free" them. Also, people who have red hair or black straight hair will find it the hardest to curl your hair and get it to stay, so I would always suggest sleeping overnight like GlamourRouge does.

If you're open to a wand here's my yow cents. I use NumeStyle's 3 in 1 interchangeable wand. I use the biggest one to get beach like waves or curls like the ones you're talking about. It takes me about 25 minutes to do my hair but I have very thick AND a lot of hair. This is what it looks like immediately after I'm done with it but I run my fingers through it and spritz sine hairspray in after. Oh I also use an olive oil heat protecting oil on bottom third of my hair before starting.Attachment 37860
