    Default Camgirl Insomnia

Camming fucks up sleep schedules. Especially since staring at a computer all day fucks with our bodies' circadian rhythm, and also sleeping where I work makes it hard to "turn off" work stress when its time to go to bed.

How do you ladies deal with this?

I just sleep , work will be there when I get up.

If you set a work routine then you will have a sleep routine. it's that simple.

My problem is that I will work my set schedule, but then I CAN'T fall asleep at night afterwards. I think 2 main reasons are to blame

    1) they say you shouldn't work where you sleep. since i cam on my bed and i sleep on my bed, it's hard to turn off the stress of my camming day when it's time to go to bed. i feel like when i close my eyes i am still in "work" mode

    2) staring at the glare of a computer screen all day fucks with me too. our bodies and minds have evolved to interpret light as a sign that it's daytime and time to be awake and busy and be productive...but staring at computer glare all day and all night makes it hard for me to relax and fall asleep after

I just got this Flux software to help with the computer screen issue, it's awesome you can download it at justgetflux.com

I've always had insomnia issues, even before camming. Camming sure doesn't help the issue though.

One of the problems I have is that I use my phone for my back-up alarm. So it's always next to my bed. If I haven't fallen asleep after maybe 5 minutes, I'm tempted to obsessively check SW, e-mail, wishlist, twitter. If I wake up in the middle of the night because I have to go to the bathroom & I check my e-mail, I can't get back to sleep. So I have to resist the urge to check my phone if I wake up.

If you're having trouble sleeping and you check your phone, maybe use an alarm clock & keep your phone on the other side of the room. I also have an alarm clock that doesn't light up, so if I wake up in the middle of the night, I can't see what time it is. When I had one that lit up, if I woke up soon after going to sleep, I'd start thinking about why I was awake so soon. If I woke up about 30 min before I was supposed to, I'd obsess over the fast that I wasn't going to get back to sleep and lose out on that last precious 30 min.

I make sure I have at least a little down time between work and sleep. I don't drink caffeine for at least two hours before bed. And I try not to eat heavy meals right before bed. Sure, they put me to sleep fast, but then I have vivid dreams & wake up the next morning feeling like I worked through the night.

I try to unwind after camming. Like put on some netflix, read a book and slowly unwind. normally that helps. also making sure I see the sunlight early in the day does WONDERS for my schedule. set a designated "Off" time that you get off at unless you're banking that night. Midnight is my cut off and I know that way I won't stay up all night, even if i want to. Melatonin pills help a bunch too.

I have a huge issue with insomnia. I've had it for quite some time, and it has progressively gotten worse. While it does become bothersome at times, I have found a few ways to manage it.

    • Have a night routine. Put away all electronics for an hour before going to sleep.
    • As part of my night routine, I will drink one cup of chamomile tea. It will make you groggy and relaxed.
    • Have a candle you use strictly for night time. Since your memory and sense of smell are located very close together in your brain, having a smell to associate the fact that it is sleeptime will do wonders.
    • Download f.lux This is a free software which is designed to match your circadian rhythm. I am aware that @tsani alreadty mentioned it, but this is the link in case you wanted to try it out. It seems to help me a little bit.
    • My insomnia makes me an extremely light sleeper. Therefore, I have some sound-blocking earplugs and a sleeping mask which I wear every single night. This makes it easier to stay asleep.

Realistically, sometimes yo are just going to have a bad night which will not allow you to fall asleep. These things happen. Personally, if I cannot fall asleep after three hours, I just move myself to the other room and do something productive while my fiancé sleeps. Generally I'll just cope throughout the next day by trying to take a nap and getting by on caffeine.

    Hope this helps!

I have it too. What helps somewhat is:

Having another place to sleep, even if it is a comfortable couch
Pets! My little buggers wake me up before 7am, so it is best if I get to bed early-ish.

most important- giving myself some slack and permission to take a nap during the day. Black-out curtains and a fan for white noise help with this.

    Bumping this.

I'm worried about the aging effects of insomnia because I don't sleep much at all and definitely for less amount of time than the average person. It's partially because I just have a hard time falling asleep. Then I have a hard time shutting off my thoughts and I'll start thinking about what I could be doing instead of sleeping, then I get anxious that I'm wasting my time asleep when I could be doing something better/more productive. Sometimes I'll stay up for 2-3 days at a time and I can still function somewhat normal (though my response speed is a little delayed so I guess I'm not completely functional). I don't really have any good advice because I obviously suck at sleeping, but I might buy a nice mattress topper and a better comforter and see if that helps. My bed is really cheap and basic right now..

When you turn off computer, work is done. Don't switch to the phone to keep checking things.

Turn off all email, twitter or whatever notifications you have on your phone. Try a sleep meditation app on your phone to wind down. It works wonderfully.

I second downloading f.lux on your computer to eliminate staring at the blue light once the sun sets. I also use an app on my phone called Twilight for the same thing.

I decided to stop thinking of my sleeping pattern as an issue and to just to work with it. Our ancestors actually had diurnal sleep patterns. They would sleep for about 4 hours after sunset, wake up around 2 am and eat, then go back to sleep and wake up at sunrise. They would also take naps. Also, the black out curtains are not really necessary. If you have ever been camping, the starlight/moonlight is brighter than anything and yet, we all know it's really beneficial to sleep in that kind of light.

The light that comes from CFL and our computers/electronics is blue light and can cause some disturbances with our sleep patterns but it's not directly harmful. LED lights and incandescent lights however, are red light and do not cause the same effects as blue light. In fact, it's best to use LED/incandescent light therapy for when you require more sun.

Sleep when you are sleepy. Trust that your body knows what's best. That's really all there is to it and you'll find that it fixes itself.

I was reading up on something similar and it makes total sense to me! I think I would have a lot more energy if I divided up my sleep like this http://www.businessinsider.com/this-...-years-2013-11

Does anyone have an opinion on sleep debt and whether or not it exists? Sometimes I think it does but I would rather it not.

I have a naturally weird sleep schedule so camming actually messes with my rest a lot less than a typical vanilla job would. That's one of the reasons I was so drawn to it, I can set my work schedule daily depending on when I need to rest.

Set a schedule and stick to it, unless as someone mentioned earlier, you are banking. We work in an industry where we are somewhat guaranteed some sort of money just by logging on.
Therefore, don't sweat it. If you have customers today, more than likely they'll be waiting for you tomorrow. And think how much fresher you'll appear on cam with a good night's rest.

Definitely agree with this. Flux is great. One thing to be aware of though is that it changes the colour of your screen to be more orangey. When I first got it, that really messed with my head when I was camming because it looked like i'd had a bad experience with some self tan. I find it best to make sure my lighting and cam setting are right, then turn it on, so I don't risk looking super washed out because I've messed with the settings thinking they're off.

One thing I would like to add is try to get a really good work out in. I also have bad insomnia and I find that if I work out really hard during the day, I fall asleep easier at night.

I recently started taking magnesium to help me sleep. Regular old magnesium supplements you get at the drug store or grocery store don't really work too well, you've gotta go to a vitamin store and get chelated magnesium, or go to GNC and get their "Super Magnesium" so that you get the high enough absorbency. I take mine around 8pm and I'm usually sleepy by around 11. Everyone's different though, so experiment and see how long it takes you to start getting sleepy and take it however many hours that is before you want to go to sleep.

I've had insomnia for about the last 10 years, would get really bad in stretches where I couldn't fall asleep and then couldn't stay asleep for more than 2 hours at a time for weeks or months on end. When it got that bad the second time, that was the first time I ever tried cannabis. Now I'm a legal medical patient, it's the only thing that ever helped (unlike sleep meds that are super addictive and would make me totally sick the next day).

Aside from that, I have a fan that never stops blowing and I usually wear a beanie to bed that covers my eyes and has the added benefit of taming my hair so I don't wake up with a monkey butt on my head. Oh yeah, and I play episodes of sitcoms on the tv in my room with the volume just low enough to not be able to really follow what's being said. When I smoke I don't actually need any of these accessories but I've gotten so used to them over the years. X)
