Default What's your workout routine like?

I'm kind of addicted to fitness. Lately, though, I feel like I'm stuck in a rut between running, cycling and yoga and am looking for some new ideas. I used to be a gym rat, but have pretty much set weight lifting behind me as I find it really boring now.

Currently my workout routine looks like this:

On days I work: 20-30 mins interval training and 20-30 mins hatha yoga for stretching and relaxation

On my days off: Cycling for 90+ minutes and/or running/jogging 5k.

I workout 5-6 days a week. I also have a dog and I walk her 4-5 miles a day, but I don't really see that as exercise.

I'm curious what other dancers do to stay in shape. Any awesome workouts I'm missing out on?

Monday to Friday, cardio classes from noon to 1pm:
    Monday: Step aerobics
Tuesday: Abs and butt with light weights
Wednesday: Butt and upper body heavy weights
    Thursday: Spin
    Friday: Boot camp

    Saturday and Sunday, 3km run.

It's rare for me to miss a day, so normally I work out 7 days a week in this schedule.

I haven't done crap in the past month because I got my boobs done and my surgeon still won't clear me to exercise.

But, usually I workout quite a bit.

I jump rope 1000 jumps every day, minimum. I find it easier to just count jumps than time it. It keeps my ass and legs looking great and it's been great for my endurance.

I also weight lift three to five days a week. One lower body exercise, one upper body push and one upper body pull is my minimum. Three sets of each at the highest weight I can use for five to eight reps. So a standard day might include squats, military press and rows.

There's other stuff I do now and then like cycling or running but those are my standard workouts.

I do legs, ass, abs one day followed by arms, shoulders, back the next. I do 30 min cardio to warm up, seldom more than that.

i love this thread! i just started working out on a schedule again i wasn't consistent for a bit but this just gave me ideas on things to spice it up. my favorite workout is 45-60 minutes rebounding either with my kangoos or on my mini trampoline. i also love the arctrainer at the gym. i have a goal to get back to running 4 miles a day again like i used to so i'm also adding in intervals on the treadmill on the days i don't use the arctrainer. but i'm back to about 6 days a week using a rebounder and cardio. i need to add in strength training but i'm too shy to check out the machines at my new gym x_X

Many gyms offer a "free" consultation with a personal trainer who can show you how to use the machines. I put "free" in quotes because they usually spend a lot of time trying to sell you either more training sessions or supplements. But the trainers do know the machines and can show you proper form and get you on a path to your goals.

I think you're better off just using free weights. You can do exercises like squats or bench press with dumbbells and you don't even need a spotter because you can just drop the weight without hurting yourself. Plus, you work out more of your body when you use free weights because you have to steady yourself and maintain form. Machines kind of do that for you so they aren't quite as effective.

Youtube is full of videos with tons of exercises. You can watch them at home until and mimic the movements with no weights in front of a mirror until you're confident about your form. Then when you go to the gym, you won't be as nervous to try it with weights.

I hope that's helpful. I love to see other women get into strength training. Usually I'm the only woman in the weight area which sucks because it's so, so effective. Just don't be intimidated and give it a shot.

I started getting more serious with pole and it is kicking my ass. A friend of. One is an instructor and sent me a strength building routine. I also run, do interval training, and weights.

I do lots of pole work, which keeps my upper body super fit.

I have a little greyhound who is my running partner, and she keeps me on a daily existensive cardio regimen.(my other fat dog hates this routine lol)

Im obsessed with defining my ass. So I incorporate ass exercises into boring homemaking stuff. My ass was flat. Not saggy, but just non-existent. Now I have nice definition in the back, but the sides are still flat I was doing leg extensions--namely tilts--a few days ago and my ass sides were actually sore the next day. So i've added those to my ass-centric workout. We shall see if they help!

My knees crackle and pop, so I love butt exercises that don't involve squats! Here is a good video for that. I use these green ankle weights (each weight is 1.5 lbs): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's also kind of fun to see what a VS model looks like next to 'normal' women.

Right?! I need to focus on slowing down when I do all of those movements. I do 20 reps for each one, but I plow through them. They'd probably be more effective if I slowed down a bit...

Doutzen has one that looks pretty good that incorporates squats: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICHcmO_qqik

Lots of the Victoria's Secret models swear by jumping rope. No surprises there - it's hard to do it for even a minute or two when you first start. Plus, you can jump rope pretty much anywhere (you don't have to drive to a gym), and it's a cheap investment.

Ellipticals are awesome for zero-impact cardio.

Yea. Thanks ladies. Guess I have to join a health club, I've really no room for a machine, though I'd love one.
