    Thumbs up Fun date ideas?

I've been seeing someone new for a month now (at least once a week). He's great, funny and romantic. So far we've been out for drinks by the harbor, friends birthday at a SC and a bar, and an outdoor cult cinema session, and some dinners. We have a great time and I'm glad we're kinda growing more comfortable with each other, like spending more time with hi at his house, watching tv and ordering pizzas. However I'm starting to miss our fun dAtes a bit, especially since very quickly our Monday night pizza movie and sex nights starting to become a bit predictable. We are still close and talk lots, and I enjoy the security of being with someone and we talk everyday still, I was hoping we could bring the fun romantic dates back and continue having a great time together, while also leaving his place. Wish I met him earlier though coz April in Sydney, au, is cold rainy and annoying but I'm sure there's still things to do? Ideas please?
Or share your cute date stories for inspiration?

This all depends on your tastes and shared interests.

The last guy i was dating loved the theatre so we used to go to the theatre a lot, not necessarily big shows but small local things. They could be hit and miss in quality but it was fun to have a chat about them afterwards. The same with art, personally i am into graffiti and a lot of artists i know from that world are having gallery shows so I get invites to private viewings which are always nice for a date followed by dinner and a chat about the work. I collect records and so did my ex fiance so we would go on a day out somewhere to look for records.

Even if you don't share tastes so much there are things like comedy clubs, cocktail bars (i have a favourite cocktail bar that i have taken dates and friends to because the atmosphere and drinks are amazing), concerts, cinema... and other things beginning with C! Try a new activity together - an ex boyfriend and I once had a snowboarding lesson together which was hilarious. Look out for festivals - be that music, film, theatre, food or other kinds.

I think most of us in the States don't know enough about Australian culture and dating to make suggestions, lol. Not to mention summer is just starting here and winter there..! What's winter like in your area, anyway?

On a completely different note - WOW LONG TIME NO SEE! Glad to see you're still around!

really depends on what you guys are into..for me, i like going to weird curiosity stores, antique shops, palm readers..in the summer camping, swimming, walks deep in the woods ( great for impromptu nookie if you dont mind mosquitos), going to the ocean..i'd mention winter sports, but i dont know what the weather is like in australia ( although i'd LOVE to go there).

Thanks guys great suggestions! I'm a bit behind coz I'm not really used to dating anyway.. Either I'm usually out clubbing and have a fwb I can see after, or cooking and staying in with long term SO. So these date ideas are pretty awesome (also things I do alone).

Compared to the full round the year culture events calendar I was used to in Europe is not really existent here. Sydney aus can be different for everyone but culture is expensive and a bit hard to reach. Here common activities are kinda centered around the beach culture or getting drunk in town... I really need to find like cute little restaurants and bars that don't just center on eating and drinking and looking fancy..
The other problem is our opposite schedules: he already lives like a 40min drive from me and he has an office day job so we haven't yet been out on day dates, he mostly just picks me up after 7pm and is in bed by 11.30 so I really feel like seeing him more.
I'm going to Europe in two weeks till may, then it's time to make some changes like joining te day worker world.
Syd in April is warm, but can be windy/rainy/thunderstormy
His hobbies: (so far) movies, pizza/food, surfing, history, sciences, politics, languages, sports
Fuck that doesn't exactly narrow it down

Wow, you sound like my soulmate Simone, I love doing those things.

You have to do research on the web and find out about what is happening in your area. My recent dates include: a major renaissance festival, a Spanish restaurant with flamenco show, a tango music and dance show at a local college, an out-of-town flamenco music and dance company that was touring, a drum circle and the best pizza restaurant in town. If it is very cold and nothing is going on in town, maybe just spending a night at a huge and fancy or small and cozy hotel (depending on your tastes) could be fun.

Every person is different and has an "inner child". I can be very sophisticated (museums, art galleries, college lectures, etc.), but, I can also be very childish (paintball guns, pinball machines, RC helicopters, etc.) - so the best thing for me is variety. Sometimes just going to interesting shops (like pagan shops with esoteric/metaphysical books and statues of ancient gods and goddesses or erotic shops with BDSM furniture) is a lot of fun. One of my most successful dates ever was taking my date to the toy store FAO Schwartz (the store in the Tom Hanks movie "Big"), before the movie made that toy store famous.

I 2nd embracing your inner childishess. After a stop at McDonalds my guy & I ended up having a blast inside the playplace tunnels+ballpit. Got chased out once they saw us since that thing is not exactly intended for grownups

Bring a picnic lunch or dinner sm where, since I live near Washington DC I think the Tidal Basin area would be perfect, & I am a bit weird like this but a picnic lunch in a large historic cemetery can be great fun. If you like history &/or architecture it's like combining a restaurant w/ a museum.

Great idea! I really like those old cemeteries, though I've never thought to take a date there.

We have a cemetery like this and they do a "ghost tour" that is more like a history, tour because they talk about people that died in the civil war, various natural disasters, freak accidents, etc. It is very interesting to learn the local history. Also, those old tomb stones, religious statutes and mausoleums are amazing. You could take nice pictures there. Plus, you have the spook factor when it gets dark, and that leads to getting very close, fear, adrenaline, and... awesome sex.

Great ideas! Yeah I'd really like to do more from the childish / interesting dates column. Really wish there's more events going on. Luckly in winter there'll be more film festivals and fun events so gonna try n plan ahead. Think hed reay like that too, I think so far our fave date was the outdoor cinema with wine. Luckly I heard they're renovating a drive in mood theatre, that would be heaps of fun! Have a totes Danny and sandy moment lol
