Thumbs down Horrible PMS symptoms, anyone else have these?

OK, so about a week before my period my symptoms are:
-severely sensitive skin. I can't even shave! Rashly, blotchy allll over my body
    -horrible bloating
-terrible mood swings. I feel like I could literally crawl out if my skin
    -hungry alllll the time

I went to a couple of Dr's about this and they all prescribed birth control pills and the last time I was on them my skin went batshit and my mood was horrible. Anyone else deal with these symptoms? Any tips? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Never had the rashes but U could take 600mg of Calcium and the cramping will stop. Chia seeds are packed full of nutrients and will keep u satiated for hrs w/o the nasty bloating u get from the comfort foods u crave. My mood swings came from being around other people so I would avoid talking to them and keep to myself. Also take a b vitamin esp B-12. It helps with depression and neurological functions MANY terrible side effects come from being deficient in it. Basically make a huge salad with all ur fav veggies, add some chia seeds, cheese, and some salmon or red meat LOL! Chasteberry balances hormones naturally if u can't take the pill. Ginger/licorice/black pepper tea is wonderful for digestion. Drink some kefir [no sugar] or another form of probiotic for bloating.

Also try a soap/lotion with oats for the rashes if they're itchy or hydrocortisone

I took a selection of herbal medicines in order to combat bad cramp/hormonal acne and as a side effect found PMS symptoms disappeared! I literally don't get any warning before my period now (which is a problem in itself but much preferable to PMS)
I gave them to my sister in the hopes that her cramp and PMS can be cured also.

    -Saw Palmetto
    -Evening Primrose
    -Agnus Castus

and I think there was something else I will try to find out.

Hi! I had really bad PMS symptoms that were ruining my relationship, my academic career, and my skin. I had scary depression/anxiety, bad acne, cramps, and breast pain for 2 weeks before my period. I can't take BC because of some migraine problems, and I thought I was destined for insanity. Here's what I started two months ago:

-Oona 1 (an herbal supplement with agnus casts (vitex), black cohosh, and passionflower. recommended by my very trusted gyn. I get it at whole foods.)
-a calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D supplement (this helps a lot with my mood - studies have shown magnesium and calcium deficiency to be responsible for depression and anxiety related and un-related to PMS)

I've been doing some other things to balance my hormones as well, such as avoiding dairy (full of artificial growth hormone that can throw your body's hormones out of whack) and sugar (sugar raises insulin, which strains your hormonal balance as well) and never skipping meals (same thing, insulin spikes/drops mess up the hormones.) I also take some supplements for acne that have helped a lot! Zinc, milk thistle, vitamin E, fish oil. I know you didn't mention acne per se, but these things are good for overall skin health, so they might be right for you. The gentlest facial products are also important. No soap on the face, and avoid artificial perfumes.

...now I am doing great! Seriously, I can't believe how much better I feel. Since I started, I have had some down days, but not at all like before. My boyfriend and I haven't had a single fight since I started, which is shocking. My mood improved immediately (like within a week) and my skin has been slowly and steadily getting better.

Sorry for the long post. I am just so happy that this is working for me, and I know how hard it is to be in your situation.

I don't know how to fix the skin problems or hunger, but my solution to bloating and pain is to avoid salt the week before my period, and to take diuretics and Aleve BEFORE my symptoms begin. The diuretics don't just prevent bloating in my experience -- they actually help my pain much more than the Aleve alone. Do NOT take aspirin though. It's a blood thinner and it increases your flow.

i've heard female ginseng and also the red raspberry leaf really help with pms symptoms. could they put you on a VERY low dose with birth control and see if it helps? i'm not on birth control either because it messed with my body to the point of not being able to function so i know how bad it can suck.
but the red rash thing sounds scary!! i've never heard of that before with pms

I've noticed not all brands are created a like when it comes to EPO, and Barleans is the best. Yes, its $30 on amazon, but you only have to take one or two pills compared to some brands where I have to take more for the same effect of the same size pill.

with regards to saw palmetto it contains estrogen and if you are estrogen dominant I would think twice about taking it

I second raspberry tea leaf if you experience painful cramps. I went from 10 aleve a day to one for the entire day after drinking it once a day for a month, then 2-3 times a day when you get closer to that time.

I would say drink raspberry tea leaf and Mexican Chamomile tea together for 4 days straight. Plus you can also take two midol a day if you can

1-2 days before I think I'm about to start my period I take Black Cohosh and Chasteberry Fruit (Vitex) -- you can get them @ any vitamin shops and I usually take 3-4 capsules throughout the whole day. I easily get excruciating cramps, break out horribly, bloating, etc. but with the herbal supplements my symptoms have eased sooo much... I've also heard only good things about red raspberry -- the key though is to ingest them BEFORE your period actually begins.
Unsophisticated in the finest sense of the word.
