Default Weight Loss/ Paelo diet Support thread :)

So I am in the process of losing a lot of weight. I have lost almost 10 pounds now but I want to lose another 10 pounds by June.

I got fat eating sugar when I get stressed or worried. Its a fairly ingrained habit but I am learning to change - one step at a time.

I am determined to get healthy and look my best. I know others on here have similar goals - so lets all support each other!!

I am starting on the paelo way of living this week. I am a one change a week person but they add up!

I am about to join an exercise boot camp that starts in a weeks time. Last week I cut out grapes (trigger food) and this week is going to be ice-cream. I figure getting off most of the sugar will be a big help and then I can tackle the grains next..

Im following a paleo diet but im not 100%. I have been eating some beans/oats/ a little dairy. I think the most important things to cut out are the added sugars and refined carbs.

I am so excited to see this! I am paleo and proud to be! I have seen friends\family loose a lot of weight. More importantly, I have had friends go from serious health risks (cholesterol and blood pressure) to within or below normal ranges!

Paleo Mom (does a bit too much bakery goods for me) and Rob Wolf and Mark Sisson. GOOD LUCK!

Feel free to PM if you need support! I highly recommend PALEO!

my mom is on a very strict paleo diet, and she's lost 30 pounds! i was shocked when i saw her the other day, she's thinner than she's been in years!
i can't give up my dairy, but i'm giving up refined carbs and MOST of the gluten in my diet ( i guess you need to keep some in your diet or you will become VERY sensitive to it, and keep some whole grains in there) and the refined sugars! its going to be very hard. grapes are bad for you? the fruit?

Thanks everyone! I am going to focus on getting rid of the sugar this week!

@ Simone - no grapes aren't bad. Rather the quantities I eat of them! I struggle with them because they are so easy to eat loads of.

Hi, I'm not following paleo but I'm doing a low carb high protein diet. Progress is slow, I'm coming up for two weeks and have only lost about 3 lbs. But 3 lbs of fat is a lot when you look at it. Heres 1lb
    1lb-fat-mug.jpg
Some people drop 5 or 6 lbs their first week so that was a bit disappointing. But I wasn't eating too badly before I started so maybe not so much of a change?
I think what we should take from this is that slow and steady is the best way to go. I'm going to stick to it even if I only lose 1 pound a week. Less chance of stretch marks/sagging/piling weight back on too.

I agree. Consistency is important - constant small losses add up really quickly.

Who cares what other people lose - you lost 3 pounds and thats awesome! I am with you, consistent progress and changing habits works long term.

I like to congratulate myself every time I do something healthy, including making a better choice or eating slowly. Its a process not a race.

This is a support thread... If you can't/ won't provide support, why post?

I've lost 14 pounds in 2 months eating mostly paleo - dairy is my weakness though and I have had more than a few slip ups. Keep in mind, 'healthy' weight loss is 2 pounds a week - I know we all want to see more but it's a marathon, not a sprint... Just keep on going!!

Who here is going with a lower ratio than 85/15?

Aspects of it are healthier, but it has no bearing on what paleo ancestors ate and needs no specific name per se. What wrong with just "healthy eating pattern"? That one does not sell books and programs I guess. Good luck with your dieting effort.

what sort of numbers are ya'll hitting with protein grams versus carb grams?

I'm not sure what I'm doing right now-- reading a lot on paleo, but also reading a lot of high protein/low carb stuff--so at the moment, it's mainly lots of meat, I will admit.

Normally I'm not a big meat eater AT ALL so I am hypothesizing that doing mainly meat except for cheats once or twice a week will help lose some weight and maybe make up for some deficiencies since even though I love veggies, and wheat bread, my biggest bad habits I'm trying to break are a can or two of coke a day, and grabbing donuts or sweets a few times a week late at night. So far, the last four days I've been very good-- rare steak, relatively plain chicken wings, bunches of veggies, smoked kippers, a little bit of leftover indian food (and by little I mean half a cup), eggs, and bacon. I did cheat yesterday with two hot dogs, a coke, and a churro, but honestly from a food satisfaction standpoint-- even as I was in the middle of my churro, I was really wishing I'd skipped the coke and churro and gotten another hot dog because that's what I felt my body was really craving (and I know, hot dogs are not paleo due to carbs, nitrates, and shit meat-- but still.)

I'm still experiencing cold hands and feet even though I've eaten more meat in the last four days than I normally have in 2-3 weeks.

also, I don't know if it's my body trying to process not getting massive carbs and sugar like normal, but I just want to stuff my face. I guess I should get some veggies just so that I get stuffed super fast, but if anyone who's done high protein/low carbs can answer-- how bad is it to eat a bunch of protein while your body is getting used to not having a bunch of sugar and bad carbs? I know for some people, high protein is not good. I, for example, actually do REALLY well on dairy and most people don't. I love raw milk so that's going to be the only dairy I'll occasionally let myself have. I did read a really fascinating piece on a guy who eats nothing but raw meat because if he doesn't, he has all sorts of gastro- problems.

    http://www.medicaldaily.com/derek-na...5-years-258609

I'm just meandering now, typing, so what I can say is that some people do great being vegan, some people do great with meat, some people do great with dairy. I want to see the person who does great on mainly carbs-- because so far, I'm not experiencing the problems I normally do when I eat several meat heavy meals in a week, and all I can surmise for the moment is that's because I'm not having a lot of bread, or even a high amount of veggie carbs.

At some point I will go to the gym. But for the moment, I'm just messing with my diet and hoping that will shed some weight.

Im not doing too well. Major slips ups. I am struggling to get this balance thing.

I am just not organised enough. I am going to have to hit the shops and work out meals to take to work. Regular snack times and NOT buy anything junky.

    How is everyone else going?

Lately my secret weight loss food is apples. They're not a meal, but they make a good snack before you get too hungry. Usually I go for protein snacks but apples= a little sugar to satisfy my sweet tooth, lots of crunch- take a long time to eat when you just want to snack, and lots of fiber/super duper healthy.

If I can I go for organic because of the pesticides but I'll eat an apple even if it isn't because they're so darn healthy.... its better than my other favorite! Ice cream sandwiches!!!

I'm paleo too and loving it! I've been on it since January so about 6 months. I'd say I'm around 85% palelo at the moment. I did strict paleo for a few months and it was going very well until I went to an all-inclusive resort in MExico! Now I cheat on dairy ( milk in my coffee ) and the occasional cheat meal here and there. I've lost weight and have been able to maintain it quite easily. I've always struggled with my weight and with my relationship with food. I find paleo really helped me think twice about what I eat and what it does to my body. I have a much healthier relationship with food now and don't have strong cravings like I used to. I feel more balanced and am gonna keep on eating paleo forever at this point

I started Whole 30 (strict paleo) on Tuesday. Has anyone had any success on it? Already, I have been sleeping so much better!
