Angry Need to go on cam but have a bad connection!

I need to go on webcam due to bad finances etc and I've signed up to SM. However I went on the other day and signed off immediately due to my webcam lagging a lot! I have a Logitech C920 webcam and my internet speed is really poor as in 4.73 mb download speed and like 0.80mb upload speed, is there anything I can do to prevent lag? When I'm on Skype I've managed to cam okay but on SM it ain't happening. I've done a defrag and cleaned up my system as much as possible due to reading a thread on here, any help is appreciated, thank you!

I've always used the encoder, but maybe if you don't the speed won't be an issue? If that doesn't work, you'll probably just have to upgrade your internet. If you majorly need money, since you probably still have your id saved in your computer as a document, I'd sign up with myfreecams, speed doesn't seem to be as much of a factor there-I had lousy internet when I was on there and my feed and shows were fine, I just lacked the patience for a token site and still do.

Are you using a crappy inbuilt cam? My internet was 0.37 upload and I was able to use the encoder. It's now 0.93 and I've been able to increase my bitrate a bit on Streamate. I also lagged the one time I tried camming on SM without the encoder, so if you're not using the encoder then perhaps you should try it.

I get an upload speed of 0.85 mbps and 9.84 mbps download, I´m using the same cam as yours as well, streaming quality is fair enough! which speed do you get in this site?

It feels that way blue, im just stuck for ideas of making money so i can pay to sort this internet out

I've just called my ISP (TalkTalk) and he wasn't very helpful in the slightest... He said for it to get fixed I'll have to pay £50 to send an engineer round but I just can't afford that at the moment! I've used mfc before but it just wasn't working for me lol plus I don't really want to show my face and on mfc I've seen loads of girls that do so I just don't think it would work for me

No Vlodina im using the Logitech C920 on my laptop, I'll try using an encoder but I've never used one before/don't know how it works

Yeah I use the same site Evita and just got a 0.81mbps upload speed, do you use SM too? If so do you change certain settings or use an encoder??

What is an encoder and how do you use it, sorry :S lol

I think encoder is for hd quality, so if your image and sound lags is either coz your internet is slow, which I don´t think its the issue here since upload speed is not so bad. Maybe your laptop is overloading? lack of memory? too many windows opened? like youtube, music, etc.. that makes that the pc lags so much as well, I try to keep just max 2 windows opened when Im online..

You download the encoder and set it up through your Streamate model interface. Check the drop down menu under Support at the top right. x

How is your computer? If it's just so so then your internet needs to be super fast.

Encoder does use a good chunk of CPU. If that's the case only run encoder and your browser. Close out any other programs that are not needed. Like Skype, iTunes, or Steam to list a few. You can check CPU usage in your Task Manager if you are using a windows based computer.

But seriously upgrade that internet sweety. You need better upload speed.

PS: I'm pretty sure Talk Talk can only provide regular broadband. If you are in an area serviced by BT Infinity or Virgin Fibre Opric, you should switch. But of course, not everywhere has it yet (like where I am).

Perhaps you could try selling clips? I hear clips4sale is good. Just until you get the cash to upgrade ur connection. Sure it may take a while to upload but its an idea.

Are there any other internet service providers in your area that you can switch too? Upgrading to a higher connection speed is going to help you immensely. It's definitely worth the extra cost and will help your earnings. There are 4 ISPs in my area. Only 1 of them offers 50-100 mb service. We are the only people in our building that have internet through them and honestly most people in our area have no idea they even serve our area. The more popular ones in our area only offer 30 mb service at the highest. But most packages with TV are 5 MB service. I would definitely try to find a better service provider. There has to be one that is offering more than what you have!

Also my ISP has a special where your first year is $29.99 regular priced its about $75 per month. You may get a discount for being a new customer and switching. I would definitely call and ask.

Thanks for all your replies... At the moment I'm stuck on what to do, I live with my mum but I'm the one who pays for the internet due to it being only me that uses it, however I'm planning on going to University this year which will be away from home and wherever I move I wanted to take the internet as well if you know what I mean as there are ISP's that I've spoken to do that but think I've decided now I might just maybe have to leave the internet at home and change providers sometime this week probably to Virgin or BT Infinity and they do both in my area but any suggestions on which is best? I don't really want to spend more than £30 a month but at the same time I've heard some things about Virgin blocking certain websites like to stream american TV and download things which is something I do quite a lot, unless theres a way to get round it??

Ooo good idea, I'll give Clips 4 Sale a go

I'm definitely going to change ISP's, I've seen BT Infinity do a upload speed of up to 9.5mb I think it was and download of 38mb for £31.99 a month so may do that deal, It will be annoying like paying for the internet whilst im away but I highly doubt ill be able to move it to Uni with me as I'll be in halls but it's only £20-£30 a month and I'll be going home atleast once a month...

I gave SM a go last night and it just wasn't working out for me I changed all the settings on the encoder but it was serious lag and my CPU was jumping to like 67% to 88% then 100% so I've given up, my laptop is seriously old too I must have had it around 6 years now but at the same time I can't afford to get a new one and I haven't got great credit, so thats another problem of do i get a laptop on credit and pay monthly but I think I'll get rejected because I've tried before or do I try and take another credit card out to pay for a laptop as I haven't really got anyone that can help... I'm just scared that maybe I wouldn't be able to make the money back because I'll be using SM but don't want to show my face....

For everyone who has upload speed below 1 Mbps, which settings do you use on SM encoder? I have 0.91 mbps and I can only stream at lower settings, if I try medium, my bitrate starts to swing..its 900 kbps for some time, and than falls to 100-200, etc. If I use lower settings, I am always at around 400-600, it doesn't drop. Why is that, because if I have 910 kbps it should work fine at 800 kbps? I have I5 computer and C920 webcam.

I don't think the stream is better without encoder. I have tried and its worse, less fluent and more freezing.

BT - That's in the UK right? There are some awesome UK cam hosts on the board so hopefully some will give you advice which provider to go with.
