    Default shades of blond?

so i went to the salon today to get my hair dyed back blond, paid 140 bucks, and its bright orange..i guess i could TRY and get away with saying strawberry blond, but its just sooo brassy and not only that, but i'm looking very washed out. i have natural light brown hair/pale skin/freckles/blue-green eyes and although i really glow and look super young with light brown hair, its sooo boring for the club and i make much more blond. so i'm going back on thursday to have the brassy tones taken the hell outta my hair, but i'm wondering if its possible to have blond hair and not look sallow/old/tired/washed out with my natural skin/hair tone i had light blond hair as a kid so i figured it would look ok on me now..
i really want to look healthy and young like i did as a light brunette but still have golden blond hair for work..i figured i could just tell the salon people what i wanted and they'd figure it out but now i don't trust them.
so for all the girls who are not natural blonds, what shade usually works for people who don't wanna be washed out? maybe add low lights too? dirty blond?

Go back and ask for a light ashy blonde. They'll have to re-bleach and tone it again. If it's still yellow pick up some Shimmer Lights and use it at home -- hairdressers are often too time pressed and/or timid to leave in toners long enough in my experience. If there's any orange left it will be too dark for the Shimmer Lights to work though, so make sure it's actually yellow before you bother.

I have the same coloring as you do. Blonde also makes me look worse but the money is impossible to pass up. The key is to keep it super ashy. Warm blondes make people like us look sallow, but when it's icy we can pull it off.

You just have to bleach the shit out of it to get that white, ashy shade, and probably use a different toner-- and it's not gonna last for for long either once you get it. Make sure you use a purple shampoo or you're gonna have to go back in-between to get toner put on it because it's gonna start to turn yellow. I did ashy blonde for years and now I have fucked up, broken hair as a result from it... be careful!

I would think just doing some highlights of a more dirty blonde would look good with your coloring and be better for your hair?

Defintiely use the purple shampoo to help keep that color, try to wash as little as possible, use dry shampoo to try and keep the color. I noticed a huge change in my hair when I started doing that. I loved being blonde but I just won't do it to my hair anymore, it's too broken/thin now from all those years of bleaching it... the platinum blonde was the worst, but evening doing ashy blonde highlights the last few years really broke it down. Now I only do blonde that doesn't require bleaching. But the picture you posted looks lovely, good luck!

Also, if you don't like it go back and tell them and say they need to fix it, especially if that shit is bright orange and they should do it for free! That's terrible that they let you walk out like that!

Hopefully you didn't pay for that, or got your $ back? I don't know a lot about self coloring (just root touch ups). Maybe get a couple opinions from other salons?

Well..I'm glad buuut, my theory is, having the place fix it that f'd it up not really. Having a different professional evaluate it That's why I was saying about checking into color correction @ other salons. I have gone thru this a few times..I demanded & got my $ back..just sayin'.
I just want the best for you hon, you're so sweet, hate ppl that f' up someone's hair. Good luck!

If it's bright orange it isn't light enough to tone blonde. you'll need to get to a pale yellow for best (and most manageable) results. the only bright orange is usually level 3-6 depending on where you start out and those are brown levels (except 6 which is in between). your salon probably used a toner meant for level 8 or above hair which would have almost no effect on orange. another application of bleach and you'll be fine. hopefully your hair can handle it.

yeah my hair is wicked thick, coarse, and strong so it should hold up. i also took the past 8 months off of any bleach to strengthen it. she didn't use any bleach when she did my hair, just used something that lifted the color while depositing blond into it..guess that's why it ended up like that!

Yea. You MUST use bleach to lift, there's no other way. She should know that. If you don't lift, the color reacts to whatever's in your hair, & turns a funny shade.
Anyway, good luck, let us know updates

^not necessarily, I'm a golden/strawberry blonde at the moment and she didn't bleach my hair at all to get my there. I've been doing copper blonde/red highlights for the last year and haven't used bleach at all on my hair and I haven't gotten anything orange.

no wonder it's orange. hi lift is less predictable than bleach plus toner and the color is usually really light, so it would have absolutely no effect on hair that isn't lifted enough to accept it. and even tho it doesn't have bleach doesn't mean it's not damaging. lol it's not like the hi lift solution just enters the cuticle and politely asks the pigment to leave. it can be even more damaging than bleach if applied incorrectly (which it sounds like yours was).

I personally love hi lift for highlights but would never use it for roots or all over bleaching of more than 2 levels. just do a low level bleach (do 10 at first so you can see how your hair reacts) and if it's not even (very likely because your roots will process faster from the heat from your scalp) then reapply the bleach again to the areas that need it so nothing gets overbleached.

so i went to work tonight and just wow! i guess i never realized how much being blond helps! the entire time i was brunette, it was harder to make money and i was getting incredibly depressed, but tonight i had dudes lined up wanting dances with me. i guess the blacklights kinda hid the orange part, but i gotta get up super early tomorrow to get it fixed. hoping it WAS the blond that made me money tonight , and not just a fluke
