Smiley Motivation to STOP DRINKING at work!

In a desperate struggle to stop drinking at work (it's so hard, I know!) I made myself this list to read every night before work or whenever I'm having a weak moment. I thought I would share it with you other ladies struggling with the same issue! PLEASE help me lengthen this list! So many benefits to sobriety while on the job! GOOD LUCK!

-You're going to regret this tomorrow morning

-You are killing yourself and sacrificing your health

-Drinking 500 calories a night is what is keeping you away from your fitness goals and lowering your confidence

-Drinking 4 nights a week is NOT normal

-These customers that are getting drunk aren't drinking 4+ days out of the week. Your life CAN'T be a party.. This is one night out to them, yet a daily reality for you.

-YOU CAN DO THIS!!! I know you can

-This will help you focus on school, and life, and working out and getting fit, and changing your life into the person you've always wanted to be!

-People are so unattractive when they're drunk. Do you really want to be that girl?

-Drinking will just encourage you to chain smoke, which is also horrible for you.

-I know you're bored but just remember that drinking will only make you feel "wobbly" and you'll just be "wobbly" AND bored.
    (SO TRUE, RIGHT?)

-If a dude wants to spend money he doesn't care if you're drunk or not. Acting is key.

-Just one night. Take it by denying a drunk. One by one. Try it. You'll be SO PROUD when you get home!!

-Healthy people DO NOT drink this much. They just don't.

Is there any way that you can ask the club to put you on drink restriction? We're required to breathalyze before we leave and it was a huge help for me to be put on that list.

^ that's a good idea if they will do that! i used to be pretty badly addicted to opiates for a few years, and i've gotta say i have pretty strong will power but addiction is one of the strongest things in the world..if it weren't for suboxone, which blocks all opiates, it woulda been a lot harder with a lot more stumbles along the way. sometimes being forced to quit and cut off helps so you dont even have the option..then in a bit you will be so used to not drinking it will be much easier.
that's a great list! keep reminding yourself of those thing, maybe write it down and look at it whenever you feel the urge. good luck! it gets easier, when you feel the urge look at your list or distract yourself

    My addition:

-- there is a certain kind of customer that WANTS you to be drunk & you can safely bet a full month's income that this kind of customer DOES NOT have your best interest at heart.

-- the drunker you are, the less aware you tend to be. This sets you up for increased risks of injuries, & may make sm1 more inclined to drug your drink bc they see an easy target.

Be safe ladies. Excess in moderation.

I am STRUGGLING with this right now so sadly I have nothing constructive to add yet.

When I used to work 2 shifts a week I could handle the occasional binge at work and didn't mind working sober when the drinks didn't flow, but last month I started working 4 nights and near nightly drinking is already beginning to ruin my body and mind. It is so habit forming -- I'm preoccupied with getting my buzz on now and even overindulge on my nights off more than I ever did. I'm smoking way more cigarettes too. I'm so tired all the time and fear the day I suffer worse effects.

One thing that makes it so difficult to stop is that I make more when I'm drunk! I don't think I would be as prone to alcohol abuse if I made less..

^Wow, that's kind of invasive (unless they know you are driving or you are clearly unfit to work) . But, it is fair when clubs give a ban to those who abuse the "privilege" though.

If you are making an conscious effort to limit or completely give up alcohol let the bartenders know so that they can make you "virgin" or "mock" drinks instead of your usual.

I have always been back and forth with drinking at work. I'll go through periods where I'm sober for months, and other periods where I drink 4-6 shots a night for months. Lately I've been telling the bartenders to go light on the liquor, and trying to cut myself off at 2 shots. A huge part of this is because when I workout the morning after drinking I can smell the alcohol come out of my pores and it makes me sick to my stomach. Bleh. Drinking a lot definitely is not healthy, or safe. I always feel better all around during my sober periods.

If you're still dancing in the same area, I know. I used to have to drink all the time when I worked in those upscale clubs because it was just so stressful. I had to opt out a lot of the time not only due to the 1099s, but the drinking issue.

Girls, don't be like me. I was a very heavy drinker for a good couple of years for a number of reasons and I am paying the consequences now. I look fine on the outside, but I'm in pain inside. I have a mild, but chronic health issue that resulted from my drinking and I am not sure if it will go away. I knew very well back then that I would eventually pay the price for my habit and I am now.

I don't drink very much anymore besides the occasional craft beer and don't drink at work anymore. I used to feel that I made more money while drunk, but now that I've worked drunk and sober in all kinds of clubs this isn't always the case.

How I stopped drinking at work: Try going to clubs that don't serve alcohol. I made this choice and I've still made money without having to drink. The money can be less and it's hard at first, but read a lot of hustle hut. I made daily goals for myself by reading the stickies. Working in a non-alcohol bar trained me to not rely on drinking and then I eventually went back to clubs that had a full bar and don't have the desire to drink.

It's true, it's so difficult to stay sober sometimes. If work is stressful, it's so much easier to just get drunk. The worst is when a club will give you a free house fee or a percentage if you sell a lot of bottles, because then you're in a position where you almost have to drink if you want those benefits.

I've found that if I'm with a group of customers that are drinking and expect me to drink as well, I can easily empty my drinks into the ice bucket/pour myself just soda water and pretend I'm "getting drunk." I'm not trying to advocate for dishonesty, but sometimes you really can't get around it any other way.

I am really struggling with the drinking at work! The club I'm in right now is a champagne club and I'm only allowed to drink champagne. We're not allowed to turn down drinks, either! I hate it, I've been so horribly hung over since Friday and it just gets worse everyday because I end up drinking each night. The customer's never leave me alone in the room (I've never had anyone leave to go to the restroom) so I can't pour the drinks out, all I can do is 'accidentally' spill them which I've done a couple times. They just end up pouring me another glass, but if it's coming from the bottle it means there's less in the bottle for us to drink... management snapped at me for doing it once though. I'm really not a drinker either to be honest, I just drink at work and if I go out to a club/pub but most of my nights off from work I just end up relaxing watching TV.

I know I make more money when I'm drinking as well, not when I'm drunk but when I've got a buzz going on I'm just much more talkative and comfortable and tolerant of customer's bullshit.

I used to be such a heavy drinker at work, but then I got very sick and was on a slew of antibiotics for a couple of months. So I had to work sober, and in a way I'm glad I got so sick because it forced me to reevaluate my lifestyle.

Once I stopped my drinking, I felt so much better. On top of that, my physical appearance was so much better. My skin didn't look haggard anymore. I kept getting compliments from girls and customers on how fresh faced I looked. My hair and nails were so much healthier looking. Since I wasn't hungover and dehydrated the next day, I was able to get my errands done, go to the gym, and even work an extra day of work because I didn't need more time to recover. Also I don't know if this has been touched on, but a lot of girls at my job develop yeast infections constantly because of overindulgence in alcohol. I had to start taking over the counter pills for yeast infections because of the antibiotics I was taking, but it was only after talking to other girls about it that I noticed how common it was among the heavy drinkers at work.

Now I'm better and I work double shifts and I choose not to drink. I notice I have to be more of a hustler to make the same amount of money I did when I drank because it's true that money does flow easier when you're tipsy. But since I've stopped drinking, I'm able to pick out worthwhile customers and not waste my time. I'm definitely more observant and my hustling skills have gotten a lot better. My quality of customer has definitely changed for the better and I find myself slowly finding low key whales in the most unlikely of customers that I would've never spoken to if I were drunk.

And here's some little motivation for you that'll work even if you don't get commission for drinks bought for you.
At one of my clubs, we get a $5 commission for every $12 drink sold. So a lot of girls like to get drinks bought for them. But I don't like that because I feel like it's wasting more time with the customer so this is what I like to do when someone offers me a drink.

-"Oh no thank you, I've hit my drink limit for today. But I'll gladly take the price of that drink in a tip =)" This usually gets a chuckle out of the customer and the $12 handed to me. I like this method because you pretty much get commission for 2 drinks, and the customer can't bullshit and waste more time with you by buying drinks because he knows you don't really drink. You also control how much time you spend with him before asking for a dance.

-Or if you really wanna lay it on thick, you could say "Oh no thank you. I'd rather you put that $12 towards some dances. " or "Oh no thanks, i'd rather you spend that drink money on me!"

But be careful in clubs that work off drink commission. Try to at least get one or two drinks in there so they don't get mad at you. lol.
So instead of getting $50 from 10 drinks, I'll get $120. And this works even better in clubs without drink commission because you can say something along the lines of "Oh no thank you, we don't get commission off these drinks so I'd rather you just tip me the drink money"
This works about 99% of the time. That 1% of customer that insists on buying you drinks isn't the type of customer you want anyways. If I get a dick customer like that, I tell them I have a medical condition and that's why I can't really drink and I just didn't want to tell him because it makes things awkward. This usually gets an embarrassed look from him and some money handed over to me. lol

And if you notice a group of drunk guys spending, if all else fails go up to them acting drunk and when they try to get you to drink with them, just laugh and mention how fucked up you already are. This works well for me in urban clubs where guys come in and buy a bottle and spend money. They could care less if you drink, they just want a drunk acting girl.

Good luck. It's hard to do the first couple of months, but it'll be worth it and your body will be much better for it.

I make more when I drink also, I feel like I can tolerate these men and the environment when I've had some liquor in me. Even working at a club that won't let us buy alcohol doesn't work. I've asked men I dance for to buy me a drink whether or not they are drinking too. I've been forced to go somewhere that we aren't allowed to drink at all. It will be better for me physically, but not psychologically. I feel the anxiety creeping up already.

I know, it's hard. Another thing that helps me, and I know people might not be too comfortable with this idea, is to make a game of what character I'll be that night.

If I'm not particularly hurting for money at the moment, it's more fun for me to pretend to be someone else for a little bit. Doing some sort of mimicry really helps a lot when acting like another person, you have to hear it come out of your own mouth for it to work (at least for me). I can't use my regular voice to get into a character. For example, I'm trying to mimic the local dialect in my area. Then I go back and work in the city and I tell all the customers that I'm a country bumpkin dancer. But I've been doing this and the guys really like it; they like that it's different than what they're used to which makes an easier sell. Then whenever I dance out here where I live now which is in the countryside, when I go to a nearby club I'll try and lay on the city accent and pretend to be some city girl passing through for the night and they respond positively to that too.

I'm not too worried about coming off as fake sounding because I don't take them seriously, they're not going to take me seriously, and they're probably too buzzed to notice anyway. One of my other characters I like to be is just pretend to be a really clueless girl.

I meant to watch some youtube videos so I can practice some dialects to pretend to be someone from Wisconsin or even from England or Ireland, but haven't gotten around to it. Just throwing ideas out there.

Yeah those clubs with drink commissions. I've been to those and I try to stay away from those if I can find an alternative club. And another alternative is just to find a more chill club to help with not drinking. The earning ceiling will be less, but it's less stressful until you get over the drinking part. I've done this too to avoid not drinking. Or nowadays I just avoid working in high stress clubs at all.

Lol. I've had to dump my drinks right on the side and into the carpet when groups of custies aren't looking. Or into a fake potted plant nearby.

I am struggling with this as well. Especially when it is slower, the offers for drinks from the customers seem to come more quickly. Then there are a few customers who are just complete alcoholics and love to do shots with the girls. I have a hard time saying no to the drinks. I need to learn to say yes and then drink a drink extremely slowly instead of chugging it down like I'm dying of thirst.

The worst part about my club is that they absolutely don't cut anyone off. I could be unable to speak and they would give me another drink. I think my money is about the same whether I am sober or drunk, so at least my money isn't suffering, but my hangovers have been off the chart.

My last shift last week, I was supposed to go home at 7pm. I ended up staying until 1am because I was so drunk at 7 that I couldn't possibly have driven. I ended up making good money since I was there for a long time, but I felt so terrible Friday morning.

I have worked in one club where mgmt would get pissy that I turned down alcohol & so I told them I was diabetic. Pulled that one out of my ass but it worked. For girls in clubs like audrey_k's, how do they handle girls w/ a medical condition (real or bs'd) that is aggravated by alcohol? Or would they just tell you smtg like 'oh you're diabetic? How sweet, go work sm where else since we can't make that extra $$ off of you'

Sticking to wine/champagne only (no shots or hard alcohol) helps me a lot. Then I set myself a total limit for the night - like 2 or 3, and get sparkling water with lime in between. I also make a point of taking tiny sips, not big sips. I say that I have to drive home so I need to be careful. Hope this helps!

That's my motivation. I tell people flat out that I worked way to hard to pour empty calories into my body.

My motivation will be not getting a DUI. My ex usually takes me to work and before that I caught a lot of cabs. My license was suspended over a bullshit "failure to change address on license" ticket that the police gave me warrants for so it was a bitch to get it taken care of, I had to retain my own attorney. But I'm finally able to renew my license and buying a new car probably next week. My mom used to have a terrible drinking problem and would get DUI after DUI until she lost her job, kids, house, (etc) and eventually went to prison... for DUIs. I vow to her and to myself never to drive drunk. It's just not worth it, and no matter how drunk I get, I always know way better than to get behind the wheel. Once I get my car I'm buying my own breathalyzer just so I can always know I'm nowhere near the .08 BAC limit here in MI. But yeah, that will definitely be my motivation - I refuse to drive under the influence, and a cab home from the club I work at now would probably be about $50. Not worth it!

Plus, I always feel so GOOD when I leave work sober.
