    Default working in Australia?

    Hey ladies,

So I've always wanted to travel to Australia and one of the girls at my club last night was telling me the $ is very good there and anyone can work without a visa, that they don't really check-- she's planning on going to Melbourne to dance. I was thinking it would be nice to take a month/couple months break from London in the next 6/8 months and travel there and dance.

    My questions are--

Can I really work without a visa/passport? I have a British, American and Canadian passport.
What months are good months to work there? Is the summer, fall, winter good or bad?
Would I make enough money for it to be worthwhile to go? Is accommodation cheap? I would still be paying rent in London.
What are good areas to dance? I'm dying to go to Sydney but don't know if that's one of the good areas?

I feel like I've read on here that Australia is good for $ and that anyone can get a visa for a year, but I wouldn't want to go for that long. Perhaps in a couple years I might consider spending my last six months or so before graduate school there, but I would rather go sooner and for a shorter period of time.

I did very very well in Melbourne. I worked at Spearmint Rhino and they told me straight away that they would need to see my visa before I worked. I was there on a one year working holiday visa, which you can get easily if you're under 30 with a British passport.
I tried anther couple of clubs, and neither asked to see my visa, but I found the money better at Spearmint so didn't stick around for long. I don't think ths is true for most girls though, a lot of dancers have told me they found it harder to make money in Spearmint than the other clubs.

Be aware that while you can work most places without them asking to see a visa, legally, you can't, and if you get caught there will be trouble. One of my friends was deported for working in Australia without a visa a few years ago.

There's no real contact in Melbourne, but I think there is in Sydney. I also worked a week in Gladstone before me and my friend ran away without telling them! There was contact there, which I was fine with, but it was a horrible club with one of the meanest managers I ever met.

I was there for 3 months, I think Feb, March and April, and I made fantastic money. I don't know if that's good season or not, but I did very well.

My accommodation was about $700 per week, and I had an apartment with a kitchen and stuff so I could cook. Food is shockingly expensive over there, it was actually cheaper to eat out rather than buy food to eat at home!
Sydney was even more expensive than Melbourne, but I didn't dance there, so I don't know if the money is good enough to even it out.

In my opinion, Melbourne is a nicer place to live than Sydney, but that's just personal taste! Both are lovely and you should travel lots if you go. I ended up basing myself in Melbourne and taking trips to other parts of the country to do the tourist stuff. It was an awesome place to be and I'd love to go back.

Well, you can get a visa incredibly easy with any of your passports, so I don't really see why you'd bother risking it without one. You can get the working holiday visa for up to a year, but that doesn't mean you have to stay that long. It costs about $300 and you just have to prove you have "sufficient funds" to support yourself (about $5000).

Australia does have a high cost of living, so if you have to pay rent in London as well, that's really going to eat into your earnings. Rent is expensive and so is everything else as well, so just be prepared for that -- plus AUD is only worth about half as much as GBP (1.82 AUD to 1£ today). Still, I've been mulling over going for a year myself and it does seem like it'd be a worthwhile trip -- especially if you actually want to visit the country as well. There are a toooooon of threads on Australia that are actually quite helpful as well, so just search/browse in Club Chat specifically and they'll turn up.

The only reason I was inclined to not deal with the visa was the girl I spoke to made it sound like a huge hassle, she said she had been dealing with paperwork and fees and whatnot and just waiting in general to hear back for months and that it didn't matter if you had one anyway. But, I guess since I'm not planning on going for another six months if I get the ball rolling soon hopefully I can get the visa by then. And I could perhaps go there to dance twice during the year while I have it.

The flat I'm in right now I absolutely love but I picked up somebody else's lease so they've only signed me through till October. I'm hoping that the landlord will decide to rent it out for another year (my flatmates said they got that impression from him) so I can renew my lease then. But if he decides he doesn't want to do that, I was thinking I would go to Australia for a couple months, dance, and then come back and find a new flat (and wouldn't have to pay for rent here during that time). If he renews the lease then I would probably go more around December-- or January if I end up going home for Xmas.

PinkiePie-- was your rent $700 or 700 pounds? Did you find the money better than here after the exchange rate? I just think Sydney looks so beautiful from the photos I've seen, but I wouldn't mind working in Melbourne and taking trips to Sydney if the money is better in Melbourne.

I did a search for Australia but not a ton came up, there are a lot of threads started but not many replies in them-- most of the replies were from you, Shanna!

I'm surprised to hear that girl is having such a huge hassle, especially if she's British -- one of my friends applied for her working holiday visa yesterday and got same day approval! You can apply online and it's fairly straightforward:
With your Canadian or British passport: http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/417.aspx (personally I would use British since you'll be coming and going from the UK)
    With your American passport: http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/462.aspx

I will try and find the posts that I found helpful and come back to share them! I was looking a year or so ago, so the information might be fairly out of date by the time you get there. Some of the helpful posts may have been on the other forum as well. If I recall, the gist of it was that dancing in Sydney wasn't amazing, Perth was supposed to be quite good (though fairly isolated in that it's quite far from the rest of the big cities and sites), and so was Melbourne (also apparently a great city to live in/visit overall).

I would also recommend PMing OliveJardin -- she's a pretty active Aussie dancer who seems to know about a lot of clubs down under.

Rent was $700 Australian. But my apartment was not right in town, it was in South Yarra which is about three and a half miles away. I took cabs home or got a ride with another dancer, and it was a nice place to live. Public transport in Melbourne is good and I would use that during the day.
I wasn't really thinking about the exchange rate when I was there because I was on holiday, so I was spending it as fast as I was making it! I took a lot of time off to fly to other parts of Australia, and did things like buying the most expensive tickets to the Grand Prix and taking private aerobatic flights in a Tiger Moth and stuff, and I didn't ever have to worry about whether I could afford it.

Australia is amazing enough that it doesn't really matter if you don't make a ton of cash to take home, the trip will be worth it as just a holiday, and if you make enough to cover normal expenses plus everything you want to do and see, that's still pretty great. If you make more and have cash to bring home - even better!

I've only heard good things about Australia and the visa sounds very easy to get. When are you thinking of going?? I'm going October next year.

Melbourne is particularly football mad and friends have said that working while the football is on there is useless. Adelaide isn't so infatuated with it, but it still gives guys something else to do on a weekend. After the football has finished end of September to May is peak period. There's lots of events/ festivals/ sport/ tourists in those months in Adelaide. Wedding season starts in September so there are lots of buck's shows. Many of the private agencies in Adelaide only hire from September to April.

^Audrey-you DO need a visa, working holiday or student, to work in a SC in Australia. Some dive clubs in Kings Cross, SYD (years and years and years ago) used to over look this, but not anymore . But the good news is that, if you are under 31 years of age you can apply for a working holiday visa. They are easy to get and allow you to work here.

Stripping in Australia is a great way to fund your travels here. A LOT of girls from the UK do it actually ! Plus, if you don't like working at a particlaur place you can alsway hop on a cheap flight and try another state.

Some info': QLD allows touching, Melbourne has one touching club and the others are non-touching, Perth is non-touching and Sydney is (supposed to be) non touching (it depends where you work and how long you are booked for etc). Our summer time coincides with the pre-Xmas and New Years busy season-so that's probably the "safest" time. But, like anywhere, if you are a good hustler you will make money. Accommodation is cheap and you can stay at a backpackers from about about $30 AUD a night (there are many backpackers here and they are always in the inner city usually close to the club strips. There would be reviews online etc).

Sydney is a great city, but I have friends there who say that (due to the new "lock out" rules) the club scene has taken a turn for the worse. But, this is just hearsay.

I hope this helps and feel free to PM if you have nay questions.

They are a rarity still. I've only danced with less than 8 black dancers in all the clubs i've worked at and three of them were working holiday visas. They always seem to do okay I guess?

    Hey!
I was thinking about moving to London in the next 6/8 months. Maybe we can do a life swap (I have a cute studio in Bondi haha). From what I can gather from my English friends, I will be most likely be making less money in London - so I'd say it's worth coming to work over here
I work in Sydney and I personally think that the money is good and I find it more relaxed/less of a hustle than Melbourne.
I have a friend from the UK that comes quite a bit on holiday visas and works in both Sydney and Melbourne. Some clubs are very strict but there's definitely still places that will take you without a working visa...
PM me if you want and I will give you the names and also some idea of the money to be made in Sydney xx

i dont have any personal info but i do have a bunch of nonstripper friends who tried really hard to get visas to go to the uk and other euro countries and were all rejected and they all ended up in aus or nz with full visas. ive also heard that if you have a graduate degree its a million times easier to get approved for a visa in any country. good luck! ive always wanted to go for an extended time and work.

The strip clubs I know of that are really busy in Sydney is Gentleman's Gallery.

If you came to Sydney, the rent is expensive. Average cost for share accommodation with 3-4 other people in the city is $200AUD per week.

There is the mining in Western Australia so lots of money up there. Flights from Sydney to Melbourne are cheap, less than $100 AUD return usually.

The other places that travellers I know of make lots of money dancing are bodyrotic in Sydney and then for escorting there are the high end places like Stiletto that also include accommodation in their cut of your earnings.

I've been working in Sydney for the past 8 months and I'm not sure about visa or anything like that because I'm Australian but I can tell you that money is quite good and it's only gonna get better until February next year. Girls do amazing from October til after Christmas. I've been clearing $1k every weekend night and $500+ on a week night. If you're wondering about what club, I reccommend dodging King's Cross and working at any club on Pitt Street. I've been working at Pure Platinum and it's been amazing. Men's Gallery is also good and owned by the same people as PP so if you get hired at one club, you can work at the other. The other one is Minx. I haven't worked there in months but I've heard money is OK but the security is real dodgy so I advise staying clear of that one. But yeah I hope this helped ^_^
