Dizzy Is it hard to get your first stripper job if you don't have any dancing experience?

Hey everyone! I've probably read half of the threads on this forum, however, I have an audition on tuesday at a very nice strip club in London and I have no dancing experience! I've been practicing in my room and I can walk sexy in heels and I know how to do a few moves but thats it. I have a pretty face and my body is decent, it's curvy which is good but I could use some toning up. I want to take pole dancing classes but don't have the funds at the moment. So I was wondering, did you know how to dance like a stripper when you first started or do most places accept you if it's decent and know you will improve or teach you? I know I have everything else it would take to do the job, I have no problem approaching guys and starting conversations and I'm mentally prepared for other things that might happen, thanks to reading this forum. It's a gown club, I have a super sexy gown that I just bought and I'm hoping it won't go to waste. I got the audition through a friend or a friend, and she says she tips the DJ £20 every night so she doesn't have to dance on the stage. She's been a stripper for 10 years and never goes home before making £500 a night. I'm not sure if I would be allowed to do this if I was new, but anyways I actually want to become a professional pole dancer, I just don't want to look like I don't know what I'm doing on stage. Any thoughts? How was your dancing when you started and how did you improve?

you are going to look new on stage if you haven't stripped before. accept it, embrace it, get used to it. .you are new. you just will. some clubs want you to have a little more experience before starting, but a many others will accept you as a newbie. all strippers have to start somewhere.
my dancing was awful and thankfully the dj let me skip stage my first week. but i learned pretty fast, its something you pick up quickly i think. although some girls just naturally have no rhythm or finesse up there no matter how long they've been dancing.

Only thing that will improve you is time. Enjoy the n00b status while you have it.

Stripping isn't like other jobs that have the "You have to have experience before you can get experience, nyah nyah nyah" bullshit. All hiring managers usually care about is your looks. If this particular club doesn't work out you won't have any trouble getting hired somewhere else.

You'll look a bit awkward at first but everyone does. No one really cares. Management won't teach you, but other girls might. Youtube was the most helpful for me.

    Gorgeous gown btw!!!

All strippers start with no experience, so don't worry. That said, some clubs in London are pickier than others simply because there are so many willing dancers, so don't get discouraged if you don't get hired at this club. The good/bad thing about London is that there are TONS of clubs to work at, so you can always audition elsewhere. Of course, I do hope your audition goes well and you get hired!

FWIW pole dancing is totally not necessary, so don't feel obligated to spend money on classes. It will not affect your income as the real money is in selling dances and VIP/CR.

There's a thread in the Club section that has a lot of info on UK dancing, check it out!

I worked with a girl at Browns, which is probably the pickiest place when it comes to hiring in London, who was brand new--- she was drop dead gorgeous, like Megan Fox status, but absolute shit on stage, even after I worked with her for over an hour on the pole. But guys loved that she was brand-new and she definitely worked the innocent girl next door thing and it worked for her. Clubs will hire you if you don't have any experience, though you may have to start with a lower-tier club. I was so shit when I first started dancing, I couldn't do anything onstage. My advice is to start at a smaller club where the girls aren't super sharky, I remember a couple of them took me on stage and showed me what to do and gave me lap dances, but I can't imagine many girls doing that at the bigger clubs I've worked at, i.e. Stringfellows. I had never danced on a pole when I auditioned, and I just asked girls to teach me things when it was dead, sometimes they said yes and sometimes they said no, and watched them onstage when the club was slow.

If you want to have some more practice, I would suggest going to a pole dance class. After taking a long break from dancing I did that when I had to audition in the fall and it was helpful just to move on a pole and not have people judging me. Also, from my experience dancing in the UK it's not like it is in America stage dancing wise, the girls here don't really do much onstage. The stages here are a LOT smaller than the ones in America so that's partly why, but stage dancing just doesn't seem to be that important to customers. I mean it's dying everywhere but it's dead and buried in London anyway! I don't know about tipping to be offstage, that REALLY depends on the club. You would not be able to get away with that at any of the places I've worked in London, I dot know where your friend worked, but unless you really can't stand being onstage there's really no reason to do that... even if you don't get tipped, it's good advertising, especially in a big club. As far as what you make, again that really depends on your hustle and where you work. I would not expect to be making £500 in the beginning, it's very hard to make good money in London, I've been doing this for 5 years and I'm struggling to make that!

Won't let me edit my posts! I was going to add that the pubs are more difficult to get hired at because they have a cap on how many girls they let in, but they are friendlier places to work than the clubs, so you might have an easier time as a new dancer there. You also won't be competing with 80+ girls on the weekends.

I've put more effort into some shits I've taken than into some dancing jobs I've gotten.

    ...but seriously.

Thumbs up Re: Is it hard to get your first stripper job if you don't have any dancing experienc

Thanks for all the advice girls! It definitely helped me with my nerves. I went to the audition last night, the club is For your eyes only, (I should include I was auditioning at the same time as my friend) and because we got there after the audition time, the bouncer upstairs told us to come back another time between 7-9. The only thing is I work until 9 most days at my day job, so it would be pretty hard, and my friend needs the job ASAP because she can't pay her rent. But we had talked to the manager a week before and he said it was fine to come right after work. So we went downstairs to talk to him and he just gave us the job on the spot without an audition! So we filled out the forms and he showed us around. Not going to lie, it was a little shocking to see the dancers in the VIP, naked, grinding on the customers. But all in all, the club seems nice, the prices are good (20 for a dance, 150 for 15 mins in the VIP). The girl I know that works likes it and she's been dancing for 10 years, so she must know her stuff. I might start tonight, he didn't really say when we could but said maybe tomorrow you can come in. Anyways, I hope I'm good at this and make lots of $$$. I want to take pole classes ASAP!

Hi Audrey. I actually did read the entire UK dancing topic. Thanks for reviewing most of the clubs, it was very helpful.

Yay! So you got hired? I'm sure you'll do just fine. As with any job, fake it til you make it. The more you do it the better you'll get at it, the more you'll learn. We all were baby strippers at one point. Good luck doll!
