Default Never Worked out Before: Any Tips?

I've seriously never worked out a day in my life, but I eat well and walk everywhere, plus all of the physical activity at work, so I've managed to stay in good shape, but since I've got some down time right now I figure I'd get into it.
Any ideas on where to start?

Just start googling! I've learned a lot from googling exercises to do with weights so I can get a bigger butt (lol). It just depends what you want. Do you want to look toned and in shape? Do you want to lose weight? I like Trainer Josh and there's a few other people I've found from searching around (can't remember their names) so just do some of your own research. Definitely weight train though! The whole "I don't want to bulk up" girls say is nonsense so I hope you aren't thinking that too lol (women don't have enough testosterone to even be physically able to BULK like a man).

Also, switch things up so your body isn't used to the same thing and plateaus. I switch up arm day, butt day, & leg day. I'm still not the best at working out so search google!! You'll learn a lot.

When I wanted to start out, I just did a lot of body weight workouts at home before I considered anything hardcore. I started out doing some quick routines of things like pushups, squats, lunges, crunches, planks, etc.
Then, as I got more comfortable with working out, I started going to the gym. There, mainly I just do a circuit using a bunch of machines that target what muscles I want targeted. (Some of the trainers there don't recommend machines as they feel the motions you do on machines are unnatural and more likely to cause strain, so that's something to think about)

I definitely agree with 22lligm though, research anything well before you do it, research is great!

it totally depends on what you are trying to accomplish. are you trying to get lean and muscular? or get a rounded butt? super flexible? either way, i'd start out with some cardio 3 days a week ( swimming, walking, elliptical are my favorites and aren't too hard on your knees and skin!)

Always remember to stretch first before any workout so you don't pull anything or injure yourself and stay hydrated.

I rotate my days. One day is arms, next is legs, etc. I do cardio for 30 minutes to get my heart rate up. And are mandatory 4x minimum a week. I always eat before I go, even just a piece of fruit.

How do you even find the time for that on top of dancing? I work 6 days a week!

I go after work, usually 2-3 am. I love it. Quiet and no having to wait for an empty machine.

Even if you are not a big pole acrobat, there are sm good videos on Utube of conditioning exercises for pole dancers. If you have a decent-sized pole in your club, you basically have a one-piece gym right there. Use it to do sit-ups, pushups, side-crunches, even just working on different methods of climbing(I can think of half a dozen of those just off the top of my head) will be a good start. Even better if the pole spins, bc then you are working against the spinning motion & that in itself can be great cardio.

Sm of the Utube videos for specific pole tricks also include a few prep exercises that are simple & helpful. Once you start building adequate strength, up the ante & start doing the tricks from up off the ground i.e. aerial shoulder mount.

As sm1 else stated above tho, be sure to stretch & hydrate well.

Thanks! I've never been one for the pole tricks before since I was working at dives and no one did them, but I'm at a nicer place now and my manager is always pestering me about them.

I would start with what you know best: walking! Find a park, a hiking trail, or even just walk around the neighborhood. Walk briskly and with intent.

I seriously don't understand where you get the energy to do that. R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

I'm primarily nocturnal so that helps. My mental motivation comes from not wanting to get fat again. I failed myself when I allowed my body to become fat and disgusting. I tell people it's a simple choice. Skip the gym, eat like crap and be fat....or have discipline, motivation, and reap the rewards. Too many people want the results with no effort.
I'm much better off now than I was as a chub flub with saggy tits and belly fat.

I have been doing videos from blogilates (www.blogilates.com) with my friend. It's all free and pretty varied. I hadn't really worked out in a long, long time--like since I was in high school, basically--but I was able to keep up with a lot of this. I like just being able to do it at home, and it's hot and humid as hell here, so being indoors is a perk too.

If you're new to working out, it would be best to start with body weight exercises, cardio, building your endurance and stability. THEN progress to adding in weights and more intense exercises.
