Default The dreaded 1099 question- am I screwed? Haha

So I signed up for a cam site, and I didn't even make 400 dollars with them, when I did some research on background checks and 1099.

Apparently, information that I was a cam model can come up in a check- however, I am wondering if this is true.

I am looking to be a counselor and I am nervous I already ruined my chances by even signing up with a website. Can that leave a paper trail?

Also, since I made less than 400 does it even matter/ will it ever even show up?

    Thanks :]

I'm subscribing since I also once cammed and made about the same amount of money (less than you need to make to declare for taxes).

you're below the mandatory filing minimum. Odds are that a 1099 will not be issued.

I'm not sure if 1099 info comes up on background checks. If it does, it won't show up as "Camming", It'll show up that you were an independent contractor for XXX company. Generally cam companies use inconspicuous names, so I wouldn't worry about background checks unless the company name was something like "Sexy Webcam Hotties, Inc." Usually it's whatever name is on the check or direct deposit, etc.

I show up working for streamate. No other companies when background checks are done and I have received 1099 from all. I think you have to make more than 600? Im not 100% sure about this but I could almost swear on it.

Depends who is doing the search? I was shocked bc I do taxes as a indy contractor
Streamate is my main cam company but really idk how I was pegged for streamate.

^^^ yes the US IRS mandatory 1099 filing minimum amount is now $600 !

Obviously, StreaMates makes no attempt to 'disguise' their corporate name on checks or 1099 forms. Thus, as a part of their own official reporting requirements, US banks that regularly receive money transfers originating with StreaMates or regularly cash checks drawn against a StreaMates bank account may wind up reporting StreaMates as the account holder's 'employer'.

I am also told by a business acquaintance that 'searchable lists' are available to potential straight job employers, state professional licensing agencies, etc., that quickly match up the 9 digit 'payer' number on 1099 forms to the type of business and actual name of business. Thus just because the listed business name shown on a 1099 is 'xyz restaurant supply' or 'def financial services' no longer means that prospective straight job employers or state professional license agencies won't find out that this name is a front for 'abc strip club' or 'qrs adult webcams'.
