^Wow... DJ's I know would be thrilled to get that much total in a night. $80 from one dancer would be incredible.

If anyone ever had the nerve to complain about how much I tipped them, they wouldn't get another penny from me until I got an apology. That's just awful! I used to do it to bartenders all the time when they whined about tipout.

My club requires 10$ for the DJ. When someone makes it rain over 300$ I'll throw him a 50.. But 10% is a lot for a DJ.

Wow, I'm starting to question if I'm an unusually high earner at my club- my house fee is usually around 10% of what I take home including VIP cut and tip out, with my DJ getting $10 regularly (which is more than the mandatory $8 )...So less than 2% of take home? Oh my god am I massively stingy with my DJ? Am I a horrible person?

It's really hard to figure out the norm when I don't know how much anyone else is earning or tipping. I hear girls complaining about the $20+ house fee, or how they can't afford a drink. I've never left with under $300 after fees, even on dead nights. At the same time I'm reading about girls making $1,000/ night which I've never achieved (haven't made over $750 in a shift yet) and would really count as banking. Ahrg- just another thing to fret about I guess. Maybe I'll hand my DJ a $20 tonight and tell him it's just for being a sweetheart.

^^^^ I do not worry abt what 'any1 else' might be tipping beyond whatever minimum is set by the club. 10% is actually my default minimum (when I have a good nite & can afford it) in the beginning when trying to get off on a good professional foot, & if they help me out I keep that up. I tell them tho, when it's one that I get on well w/, that I had a bad nite & can only give the min amt bc of it, & they were understanding.

I have had djs that deserve 10%, I have had djs that only deserve the minimum & sm that have seriously nasty prima donna 'tudes & don't even deserve the $10 minimum. That being said, I have seen a lot of dancers also have those same nasty prima donna 'tudes so I can see where djs sm times have cause to be pissy. This is why I try to cultivate my professional relationship w/ the djs independently of other dancers' input; I do not want to get on his bad side by seeming to side against him in a conflict I know nothing abt.

The DJ at my current club is such a piece of shit not to mention the worst DJ ever (hands down)! I stopped tipping him bc he only plays the same 15 songs all night for everyone & when I recently sprained both arms rollerskating, I couldn't go on stage & so naturally I didn't tip him & he started talking shit when I walked past him at the end of the night. I hate DJs who feel so entitled to OUR hard earned money when they are fucking lazy, I just wanna bitch slap them. The same dj also started stealing this new DJ's tips we had that actually played way better music than him

I tip between $10 - $60, tending towards a lower percentage the more I make. I never tip under $10, no matter how badly my night went. Typically if I'm walking out with $200 - $400, I'm tipping $20-$25. But if I make $100, I'm not going to just hand out $100, but I do think $60 is fair to maintain good relations. I think it's sad though that I feel stingy but am still considered one of the "better" tippers in the club

DJ tipout at Double Visions is $2/set so about $10/$12. If it's a great DJ who doesn't play me lame ass college rock and knows what I like he gets more than the minimum.

You should always tip your DJ I believe 10% is only necessary if you made a lot of stage money. Otherwise 40-80 on a good day. 10-20 on a slow day. You should tip more generously if your club is known for making a lot of stage money. At my home club getting rained on was a regular thing. Their were guys that went in there and just threw money all night. The DJ would show favoritism and move girls up the rotation if you were known as a good tipper and skip girls he deemed cheap.

I definitely think that if the DJ helps out and if you make a lot of stage, you should tip them well. One time I made well over $300 on stage and tipped him $50. Other times if I make shit on stage and overall have a shitty night I'll tip them $5 or $10. The better I do, the more I help out. But 10% seems like a lot unless he went out of his way to help you or you did really well on your stage.

I don't give 10 % unless he deserves it... At my old club I was told to tip my dj 10% but he treated us like we worked for him so I never tipped 10%. He didnt play what we liked and basically bitched if he thought we didn't tip him 10%. I think tipping should be based on performance. If you don't play my music, don't acknowledge my request, and skip me when it's busy, you should not get my money. I was the top earner at that club and because it was a rule, we had to tip him no matter how shitty his performance was. Build a good relationship with your dj but don't be suckered into tipping more when you're still gonna get the same shitty service anyway

Sorry typo! I meant to add another 0 and say that if i make 1000 I'll tip out $60. XD oops!

Anyway, my favorite DJ takes all my song requests, turns my lights up bright (I like them like that!) and even downloads songs that I ask for, all because I take care of his tip at the end of the night, so in my opinion that's money well spent, versus other DJs who take my money but don't really make an effort to deserve it!

I'm bumping this because today I felt like the DJ was kinda looking at me like I should have given him way more. Maybe it's just because he's almost always grumpy and seems burned out, I dunno.
The DJ runs the VIP area (where dances are $20 instead of $10); he takes the money and hands out the wristbands. Today he sold 2 guys wristbands for me and saw me go into the bottle room for half an hour. From his knowledge, I probably made around $300 (I did make more but on the floor partly).

When I started, I was told by him it was a $7 minimum. Another DJ told me $10 or 10%. All of them have given me basically a guilt trip about how they pay the club to work there and are ICs like us. I give them all $12 or $13 every day, which is over the $$ minimum in both cases (like fuck am I giving anyone 10%).

He counted his money in front of me today, and I got the impression he expected me to give him more. For what? Playing 8 songs for me total? Oh no, you skipped me in rotation because I was in VIP... that's standard in most clubs; here it's like they're doing you a favor.

I never realized how good I have it at my crappy little club. We're only required to pay $10 regardless of how much we make (and if it's a terribly slow night he'll take whatever we can give). On top of that, our DJ is pretty good and tries hard to get the crowd going and plays good songs for the girls who are consistent about not missing stage.

^^ 2 of mine get excited when I write a song list... makes their job even easier. They like requests.

When you break it down, I paid him $12 last night for, if we count him waiting out my songs, about half an hour of work. So he makes $24 an hour if you look at it that way. That's pretty good for doing nothing but watching YouTube and hitting play every 3-4 minutes.

I tip WHEN someone actually gets me money. I tip a VIP host who's upped my half hour sale and turned it into an hour, I tip a host who introduces me to a huge spender who blows a chunk of cash . I tip bouncers who have taken a bop on the nose protecting me. I tip a DJ who spends some of his free time at home downloading my songs and brings then in. Nobody deserves a tip on top of their pay check just for doing their job.

I agree, but waitresses DO have to put up with shitty customers, abuse and sometimes leaving with no money at all. And they can't walk away from the customers, they HAVE to serve them, even if they have been abusing them. Just wanted to point that out, I used to waitress! Otherwise, I agree wholeheartedly with your statement! Always please tip your waitstaff at least when you are going out if not ITC!

In the clubs in my area, tip-outs are not really *expected* and most certainly not mandatory. They've done away with that since they now take up to 40% from every dance sold (so I sell a $100 CR, the house gets freaking $40, yes it's bullshit) So if they are taking that much from me, they better be spreading it among the staff, thus making tip-outs unnecessary.

My DJ's (with the exception of one, who was nice and had a great personality but did not do much in the way of helping me make money) have done nothing more than announce my name and click play to the same old tired songs. A 10% tip-out to them would make no sense.

Waitresses in my club don't have to serve shitty customers and, even though I quit waitressing, I make sure the new servers know that. If a customer is going to be abusive, they can walk their ass to the bar and get their own drink. We've had more than a few act like assholes and, all of the sudden, no dancers or waitresses would go near them. Management won't kick them out unless they're violent or extremely loud and belligerent, so it's our way of letting them know that their attitude just isn't going to work here.

That being said, if it's a slow day for the waitstaff, I'll make a point to order food from them and give them a really big tip. Or just randomly drop my stage tips on her tray, especially if I know she's having a bad day.

Well I work in FL and its alwas been 10% of my earnings if I did a V.I.P otherwise its a mandatory $10.00 soo if I did 3 P.R THEN HE WOULD GET 40 but if I made 400 on floor I would just require to pay 10.00 but I always tip a lil extra if I feel they deserve it!!

^ IF they deserve it being the key word. I tipped out double the minimum to the day guy yesterday because he skipped me when I was with customers, and I gave the night guy $5 (even though I was on his shift for maybe an hour) also because he skipped me while I was with a guy.

If they haven't done shit, they don't get shit. Luckily the DJs here are generally very good about helping me out and thus they get more when I have a good day.

All DJs? No. I've worked with many that don't let you pick your music or even your genre, and ignore your easy requests despite tipping. So no. They would easily take advantage of that.

Tipping should only be done with those who HELP you. As incentive. If everyone starts EXPECTING it, no staff will have incentive to help anyone anymore. I would honestly rather the club take a higher cut from me so they can pay "employees" more so I wouldn't have to be required to tip them.

I've worked in clubs with a $10 minimum to DJ, which was okay because those were clubs where I could pull in a lot so $10 was nothing. But anything more than that is really dumb. I don't mind tipping more, but only if he will at least play the genre I want... particularly the songs I want. Oh, and not be an asshole. Being an asshole and yelling at a dancer, AND THEN expecting a tip is pimp mentality. None for you! Bye bye.

That being said, the dance tracker / vip host is the only one I really care about tipping. Because he's there to "forget" my dances or upsell to the client & hustle a tip .
