    Default workout supplements and breakouts

I probably won't leave this up long I'm not sure if anyone even has this issue. But my skin was so clear for so long until I started taking things for working out (some intense protein powder, creatine, BCAA capsules) just about a week or so ago. Now I'm breaking out and it's so depressing!!! I'm just not sure which of the supplements is doing it and if I should stop completely or if my body needs to get used to them? I only take them when I work out which has almost been everyday.. I looked it up and some say it's the creatine, some say it's the protein powder having shitty ingredients, and other people say your body just needs to adapt.

Does anyone have any insight or experience with this? I might just stop with the supplements but I felt like they were working but this acne is hideous and I can't work tonight because of it.

What brand supplements are you using? A while back there were vitamin B pills which had anabolic steroids in them.

I use Modern BCAA powder, Now whey protein isolate, and Promasil protein and have not had any acne problems from them.

the protein powder is called like amplified mass by gnc (i know it sounds intense but I want to gain weight lol) and then the creatine and BCAAs are optimum nutrition.

I read that creatine changes your hormones so that could be it.. but then someone else said that powder has a lot of really shitty ingredients in it but it's also packed with all these other things my body just might not be used to.

so confused on what it is!

yeah when I was just using whey protein powder in shakes I never had an issue with breakouts. So maybe it is the creatine? Or this protein powder is really intense with all of its ingredients?

Any extra protein you consume gets converted to fat, and is also just extremely hard on the kidneys. The metabolic byproduct of protein is ammonia - chemically identical to the ammonia in household cleaners. Our bodies pair the ammonia with carbon dioxide to make urea, which is a bit less toxic than ammonia. Protein creates nitrogenous waste - bad for the body.

About 50% of your diet needs to come from carbohydrates in order for your body to work properly! You only need .8-1 gram of protein for every kilogram of body weight - and that's if you're an active adult.

The only reason anyone ever loses weight is by decreasing the amount of kcalories in your diet - whether through a reduction in total kcaloric intake or through an increase in exercise.

When people initially lose weight on high-protein diets, this is because protein attracts water, so it acts as a kind of diuretic. Meaning the weight you lose is either simply water weight or from decreasing net kcalories (NOT from an increase in protein).

I did the math and with me being about 135 pounds I need about 61 grams of protein a day (I'm very active). With my diet alone I barely get any protein (I'll admit I don't eat super healthy and nutritious all the time) and supplementing protein is really important for me. Also, I want to GAIN weight, not lose it. That's why I don't really want to stop taking protein because I need it to help me gain weight. I'm not really having a high protein diet, if anything my diet is high carbs, I just need more protein because I weight train and want to gain muscle.

But thank you for the info!

Also.. I've been doing research and I think excess protein is peed out, not stored as fat. But anyway I wouldn't mind having some extra fat on me anyway lol

    I gotcha.

The metabolic byproducts of protein digestion are urinated out (urea). The protein itself is broken down and either used (up to a certain amount - the body does not have the capacity to store protein as protein to use later) or converted into stored energy.

I don't have much advice other than the same thing happened to me! My skin is very sensitive and got even worse when I was taking protein powder regularly. ( two scoops a day- one for beast and one post-workout). Maybe you're sensitive to dairy? Most protein powders are from dairy protein. I stopped taking protein powder and my skin is better now. I just replaced it with natural protein (chicken, eggs, meat).

Yeah, I would guess it's either the dairy or the sugar. Both dairy and refined sugars break me out.
