Question Show me your shopping list!

I'm on a 90 days challenge for myself, to eat as healthy as I can and finally drop my last 7lbs! I'm going grocery shopping today, so I thought I'd share my list! I shop every 3 days, so here it is:

    Bulgarian yoghurt
    Whole milk
    Bleu cheese

    Zucchini
    Tomatoes
    Spinach
    Butternut squash
    Avocado
    Blueberries
    Strawberries
    Chickpeas

    Salmon
    Swordfish
    Chicken breast

    and sushi for a treat!

I thought it would help all of us stay on track to share and make us more conscientious of our shopping habits.

I don't get all of that stuff every time I hit the store but those are my usual staples.

Damn, I thought this was going to be about clothes or something. Lol. I bought today, a tai frozen diner, fajitas in a bag pre cooked, slasa, sour cream, a bag of goldfish( extra cheddar), some new cheddar peeridge farm crackers( they were baked so I thought they'd be healthy) and chocolate pudding, marshmallows and graham crackers to put in. I try to eat healthy but I can't cook and I just like junk. Lol.

We buy all of our groceries for $100-$120 and shop once a week.

    Ingredients we buy regularly:

    Red kidney beans
    Black beans
    Garbanzo beans
    Red and green peppers
    Canned tomatoes
    Grapefruit
    Carrots
    Vegetable broth
    Canned light tuna
    Roasted salted nut mix
Lentils (for Indian dish - dal)
    Yellow and red onions
    Avocados
    Limes and lemons
    Tomatoes
    Quinoa
    Millet
    Bananas
    Sweet potatoes
    Greek yogurt
    Eggs
    Whole-wheat pita pockets
    Garlic
    Frozen berries
    Salmon
    Almond milk
    Whole-wheat Grapenuts
    Agave nectar
    Gala apples
    Peanut butter
    Fresh berries
    Brown rice
    Whole-wheat pasta
    Pasta sauce
    Pesto
    Feta cheese
    Spinach
Dark chocolate (wrapped individually and stored in freezer)
Kombucha, sparkling water, and coconut water (as a treat)
Filtered water in gallons (we re-use the containers)
    Parsley & Cilantro (staples)
    Organic olive oil (staple)
    Balsamic vinegar (staple)

We buy organic when the prices are reasonable for our budget. I always buy a few items as organic for various reasons, regardless of price: eggs (humanely raised and reasonably priced at Costco), bananas (flavor is so much better), canned tomatoes, quinoa (fairly cheap), brown rice (arsenic risk and cheap), agave (condensed product), olive oil (condensed product), apples (heavy pesticide use), kombucha (fermentation risks), spinach (ground pollution risks), sweet potatoes (cheap!), carrots (super cheap), and beans (also cheap).

The stuff I like to always have on hand:

    granny smith apples
    grapefruit
    frozen berries
almond milk and coconut milk in cartons
plain greek yogurt, plain kefir and blue cheese
Broccoli, carrots, celery, misc. greens, cucumber, zuchinni
    jasmine white rice
    russet potatoes and sweet potatoes
    eggs
canned tuna, chicken fresh or frozen
    canned coconut milk
    grassed beef gelatin
    hemp seeds and chia seeds
    coconut oil and ghee
    ACV
some trail mix- as a treat or work snack

    that's it folks!

I should say that I use many of those ingredients in my smoothies. I use my vitamix almost daily.

I'm intimidated by all these Tolstoy-esque lists! Here's what I keep in the house:

    Ezekiel bread
    Bananas
    Baby carrots
    Pink Lady or Gala apples
    Strawberries or raspberries
    2% milk, organic, for coffee
Greek or sheep's milk yogurt, organic
    Fruit juice (usually citrus)
Brie or goat cheese or aged cheddar, all organic
    Butter, organic
    Almond butter

Sometimes I buy eggs (the organic six packs), pesto, and hummus. I try not to buy anything that I can't eat uncooked in five minutes, or that spoils quickly (I'm looking at you, arugula!) because it always gets wasted.

Great lists - I buy pretty much the same stuff as most of these lists but find it hard to write the actual list for some reason so very helpful!

I'm intimidated by my own list, tbh. Those aren't things we have to buy every week...we just keep them stocked.

I'm an extremely lazy cook, too. Spending even a half hour making a meal is almost unthinkable for me. Zero patience here. I love, love, love simple meals.

^ Well, now that I think about it, I have bought fewer groceries since moving to my latest apartment. I used to cook! My last place had a typical "nice" American kitchen; with a dishwasher, microwave, etc. My current place has a tiny, barebones kitchen. It's basically a large closet with a sink, oven, dorm fridge, and some cabinets.

If I had more free time (although I know I'm not the only busy lady here!) and a more cooking-friendly kitchen I would be regularly buying greens, lentils, beans, rice, and "ingredients" again. The refrigerator cools irregularly, so fresh vegetables spoil, and the oven has no temperature gauge so it's also a hassle. I used to love to make curries, roasted vegetables from the farmers market, fancy salads, and so on.

When I moved, I didn't consider how this kitchen might impact my diet. Hmm.

Today my boyfriend and I spontaneously went to the grocery store. We got:

    12oz smoked salmon
    Salami (for him)
    Cream cheese
    Sundried tomato hummus
    Brie
    Strawberries
    Bread and butter pickles
    Coconut water
    Cereal (for him)
    Peanut butter (for me)

See, mostly everything I eat is a topping for sprouted grain bread. Everything was organic, since it was a health food store for hippies. No veggies though! Should have gotten carrots. My neighbor did give me a bunch of homegrown tomatoes yesterday, though.

Rice paper can be fun, too, for quick wraps. They're oddly satisfying. And you can stuff them with whatever you have laying around - veggies, leftover grilled chicken, beans...
