My guess (without doing any research) is that it simply changes how water is distributed throughout your body. Normally, cells are plump and healthy due to their high water content. I would assume that body wraps compress the cells, which pushes water out temporarily. This would be a very temporary effect depending on the tightness of the wrap. And it sure doesn't sound comfortable or healthy!
As nocturnelle said, there are no shortcuts to a healthy body. If you're looking to lose weight and maintain that over the long run, decrease the (k)calories in your diet and increase your exercise. It's basic math - if you consume fewer (k)calories than you expend, you will lose weight. And it is critical to consume a balanced diet. Fats and carbohydrates are used for energy, and protein is used only for structures in the body (growth, maintenance, repair). If you don't consume enough carbs or fats, your body will start breaking down your muscle to convert protein into glucose to use. So about 50% of your diet should be carbohydrates. Consume about a gram of protein for every kilogram of body weight (no more than that - otherwise it just gets converted and stored as fat). People eating high-protein diets see an initial 'weight loss' due to protein's diuretic effect in the body - not from fat loss, so ditch the fad diets. Consume a variety of foods to ensure you're getting all of the vitamins and minerals your body needs: fruits, veges, grains, legumes, and proteins. And remember, you need about 1500 (k)calories a day if you don't move at all - that's just so your body can maintain itself! (Information paraphrased from Understanding Nutrition, 12th edition)

I do them. They basically flatten out my stomach and get rid of water weight. It's totally worth it IMO.

I tried them a few times years ago after I had my daughter. I'm skinny I just wanted to grt rid of a little cellulite. They wrap you so damn tight then make you move around for like 30 min . So after you feel much lighter. I don't think they really did anything but they do make your skin super soft and make you feel lighter which makes you feel more confident after.

Ha the one time I did a "body wrap" it was at my tanning salon and it wasn't even a real wrap. All they had me do was lay in this big cloth jumpsuit thing that heated up so I got really hot and sweat for an hour. They said it's best to do it before you workout because it helps you burn more calories. LOL I highly doubt it did anything.
But, I have seen pictures of people actually tightly wrapped in one and it seems kind of cool. Maybe it's like supposed to help trim your waist a little but I doubt it does much.

Huge scam! I'm glad my friend "owned" her own "body wrap" business so I didn't have to waste any money. If you want to lose weight in the stomach area you better fix your diet.

Yea, I've heard they're temporary @ best.

Yeah I figured the results where temp. Not trying to lose weight(actually trying to gain ) just wanted to see if the craze was real. Guess I'll have to look into waist training ;0

Body wraps work well if you diet and exercise as well. I do body wraps along with diet and exercise program. I drop a few inches![]()

I don't know about actual body wraps but I do waist train with a steel boned corset (admittedly not nearly as much as I should) and wear a sort of wrap type garment around my midsection when I go to the gym. It definitely makes a difference for me in terms of water distribution but you HAVE to pair it with a clean diet and regular exercise or else you're wasting your time. It's like whitening your teeth without brushing every day.. why go through the trouble of accentuating a feature that you're not regularly taking care of??
Unsophisticated in the finest sense of the word.
Anything that's advertised is usually a scam haha. Some people do use them while they do cardio to sweat more.

I've done them before and they help for like 2 days. Would this be a good idea or a bad one before waist training? I don't want to fuck things up. I've put off waist training for so long because I don't want to fuck things up or make a stupid decision while doing it

Temporary fix. You lose water, not body fat. Save your moolah.
i bought 3 lbs of seaweed(kelp) on amazon. i take 1 cup of water and 3 spoons or more of seaweed and boil it for like 5 mins. I let it chill and after i put that caca all over me and wear a plastic suit(looks funny smells too) wait an hour and wash it off. i like it makes skin looks soft, feels soft, good detox too. but cons that you have to be an hour or more who has so much time?
