Question Does your DJ ever embarrass you?

A few nights ago I was onstage, and a really sweet female customer came up and tipped me a $20. I usually dislike female customers and don't encourage them, but I was a little drunk and just for fun I had her lay on the stage and shook my hair in her lap as a silly gesture. She loved it, and it got me more tips. Well the DJ chimes in with "Wow, looks like Vackra is hungry tonight!".

It really embarrassed me. I hate it when he says stupid, overly sexual, slangy things like this. I am going to work tonight and am still embarrassed at what he said.

Eh, don't sweat the small stuff.

Has a DJ ever embarrassed me? Yes, but no one but yourself will ever remember it. Customers and others girls are in their own little worlds. If it truly bothers you, you can always talk to your DJ. It's in his best interests to make you happy.

^So much that. Half the time you can't even fully make out what the DJ is saying over the mic, and no one ever really pays attention anyway -- they certainly don't remember if they happen to catch it though. It sounds like your DJ was just trying to chat you up and encourage more people to tip, so I wouldn't be embarrassed. Just own it next time!

One of my DJs will sometimes play the hockey goal horn when I'm up on stage, but that's just because we're fans of rival teams. I think it's funny more than anything, and it always makes me laugh, which I think customers dig since they tend to like to see the dancers smile.

All the time. But my club is like a club so anything going on beyond a spin around the pole they comment on. I think they think they're funny? In any case if it attracts attention and more $, fine by me I guess.

    Yep!

I had HUGE issues with a DJ at my first club, he was one of the reasons I ended up leaving (the biggest one was the money but he was another big reason). We hd a feature dancer one night and I was bored and none of the girls really knew me yet so they were being pretty icy, so I was making small talk with him about the porn star... he asked me if I was interested in porn and I said not really and he said something like "well I could take you home and be your teacher." I just laughed it off but after that point he became obsessed with the idea of sleeping with me... he was really nice and flirty for a while, then he started becoming very aggressive, and, when he realized that I wasn't going to go out with him, he came VERY hostile. He would call me up onstage repeatdly, purposely leave the songs on for long periods of time, etc. I tried tipping him more but it didn't work. The last straw for me was one night I was sitting on the edge of a guy's chair talking to him. It was fake-busy; just young guys, no one with money so we were just chatting. He called me to the DJ booth ands said something like "they're not going to buy dances from you if you sit on their lap. Why the cow when you get the milk for free?" I told him I wasn't sitting on their lap and not to tell me how to do my job. He called a 2-4-1, I asked the guy but knew he was gonna say no, and he did (he didn't dance with anyone though so it had nothing to do with me). The DJ leaned in on the mic and said something like "see Audrey? I told you he'd turn you down, just like everyone else in this club will."

I was SO mad and I ended up going to manager and told him what he said... the DJ got a VERY loud talking to, not because he manager gave a shit about him hurting my feelings, but because it was a commission club and he was more pissed about him calling me onstage when I was about to do dances and that kind of thing. But honestly it never got better and that was partly why I left! DJs can be such fucking picks sometimes.

I got a bouncer fired for doing something like that. He told a customer that was of the same ethnic heritage as I was to "Stay away from her and her friends." The custy told the manager, asking if there was something going on, because he was hesitant to take me back to the CR after that comment. The bouncer was escorted off the property. Managers hate it when someone fucks with their cash cows.

Male SC employees either understand that dancers are people, so they just do their jobs or they're complete dramatic assholes. More of the latter, unfortunately.

^ That's awful Audrey&Whirlz. I dislocated my knee while doing floor work and when I went to the docs I told them I was doing yoga. I don't need the sideways glances or murmurs behind the nurses desk. I fucking hate that.

I think sometimes those people are so clueless sometimes. I was at a club one time for a promotion and some announcer dude who doesn't usually work in strip clubs was there. We had a friendly chit chat and then later when I was called on stage, he announced my stage name along with something personal about me on the mic. I told him not to do it next time, but he defended himself saying it helps play up the sexy factor. I chalked it up to him being a clueless civilian and no one heard it anyway.

TLDR: some DJs and announcers are dumbasses.

Worst DJ line ever: "Check out the fun bags on this hose monster"

The girl who was on stage at the time was just the sweetest girl you could imagine. She was a pro and laughed it off, but I was mortified that he would say something like that into an open mic! This was at a more upscale establishment, too. I'm not sure how he managed to keep his job for such a long time.

I had a DJ scold me over the mic while I was onstage. I fucking went ballistic on him after I got off the stage. He said he was having a rough night with most of the dancers, and let his anger get the best of him. I told him I didn't give a fuck; I'd worked with him for 1.5 years and always been good to him and tipped well, and that what he did was uncalled for and humiliating. He tried to kiss my ass all night, but I don't like when I've always been good to someone and they for no reason treat me like garbage. He got the hint when he not only didn't get any tip from me that night, but I refused to work his shifts (and made it vocally known to mgmt why) for damn near a month. He got fired shortly after the month of not working together due to harassing other girls and stealing.

    Back to the OP.

Even though he said something that embarrassed, I don't think he was trying to be mean or malicious. I think he was just trying to be cheeky. Honestly you shouldn't let it bother you. I'm pretty sure no one, except for you, thought twice about his comment. But if it really bothers you, maybe ask him politely to abstain from making comments about you while you're on stage.

Not intentionally, but we had a DJ who played me Nickelcrap once. I walked off stage.

I'm really sensitive to things like this, because I do not EVER speak to my customers about sex, and still have a great deal of success. I didn't want to the room to get the impression I was an extras girl, or take it as a lead to start with the sex talk with me. I like compliments onstage calling me beautiful sexy etc... but not what I feel to be degrading sexual comments suggesting I am like that. I know it may sound hypersensitive, but the way I hustle really works for me, reduces the amount of jerks I get etc and I don't want to change that.

Also this DJ really doesn't like me, so I may speak to our female DJ about it and she can maybe relay it more concisely than I can.

    ^^^Oh, hell yes this.

It's extremely important for dancers to protect their image and sales strategy. I'm really careful about how I present myself, because I don't want to be viewed as cheap, a party girl or an extras girl. I try to present myself as having self respect and dignity, so that I eont get a bunch of shit about extras or have assholes trying to violate boundaries. While it still happens, I get it far less than a lot of other girls that I work with.

I don't talk about sex, I don't dance to music with drug, alcohol or misogynist lyrics and I'm very picky about how the DJ announces me. My DJ's are totally not used to this, but they like my tips, so they do what I ask. Dancers have to deal with the fallout if custys get the wrong idea about us. Our DJ's need to do their part to help us make money and stay safe in the club.

I haven't gone back to my new big club for two weeks.. Almost entirely because of the djs. Theres like 5 different ones who don't share the same programs or whatever and dont save your music so each time you need to re pick your songs, but the worst part is you cannot hear them at all. After a year of working all around my area, I'd like to think I have a pretty good ear for dj voices over loud music, but not there. it's more embarrassing for me to miss my stage set completely and get in trouble than for them to say something stupid over the mic.

To answer the question though, I've never been embarrassed out loud but I did miss my set one time when I was new and this dj I was totally cool with got like so offended. He wouldn't look me in the eye and when I apologized all he said was "its not me who's missing out on money". When i tipped he didn't say anything. Since I was new it made me want to cry but now I would go completely off on em. I like, hate djs.

My dayshift DJ is impersonable at best. He called me up on stage twice within 15 mins. Once he said my name *instead of* the scheduled dancers and I ended up having to invade this poor girl's set. Then he calls me up less than 15 mins later for my scheduled set, I tell him he just called me up there, he makes me go on stage anyway. I don't get why DJ's should be able to make us do anything in the first place. I mean, they're just a DJ???

I wouldn't be embarrassed by that.

One of the DJs at my club is known for making snarky comments or snide remarks in a very tongue-in-cheek manner, like inside jokes over the mic when the girls go on stage. It's usually flirty and funny though and most people don't even notice it...
