    Default Welbutrin to Quit Smoking

    Hi lovelies,

My shrink prescribed Welbutrin for smoking cessation. I have been taking it all week and still smoke a lot.

I was wondering if Welbutrin has worked for anyone here. How long does it take to kick in? How many mgs?

Yep. I took it, and that's what helped me to quit. It was about 15 years ago, so I don;t remember what dosage I had. Took about two weeks, if I remember correctly. I also made sure to drink a LOT of water and took Epsom salt baths to help flush the nicotine out of my system (which helps a LOT, btw). I was a two pack a day smoker, so if it worked for me, it should work for most people I would think.

    Good luck...keep at it!

i've taken it, and it gave me really bad anxiety ( which is a pretty common side effect i hear), and it just made me want to smoke more. it also got rid of my appetite. be sure and take it first thing in the morning because if you don't you may have a hard time getting to sleep at night. all in all i wasn't impressed with it.

It made quitting smoking really easy for me. I was the same at first, still smoking for the first week or two. Cigarettes never suddenly tasted "gross" to me, and the idea of having one always sounded good. I would keep smoking at all the regular times I would smoke (before work, after meals, etc.) but I suspect that I was smoking more out of habit than my body telling me that it wanted a cigarette. When I decided to just throw my packs away and say, "That's it, no more smoking," The cravings were almost non existent, and I would go almost the whole day and suddenly realize I hadn't had a smoke, or even thought about it. I also used an e-cigarette when I got bored. I only had a few moments in the first month or so when I would get frustrated and "jones" really badly, but the feeling would quickly pass. I should mention, that my doctor prescribed me 150mg/day for the first week, and then 300mg/day thereafter, and I'm pretty sure this is how most doctors prescribe Wellbutrin for smoking cessation. I never felt too jittery or anxious on the 150mg, but when I bumped it up, it made my brain feel like it was buzzing, so I stayed at the lower dosage, and it still worked fine for me.
Hope it works out for you.
