Question Any of you (older...30's) ladies go back after time off?

I've been retired for about 3 years now. I thought I had hung my stilettos up for good but I'm in a situation where I may need to go back. I would only need to work maybe a day or two a month, three tops and hopefully not longer than a year if that.

I feel old and out of the game. I never wanted to dance in my 30's. I don't look old. I don't think I look 30. It's just the fact that it's like in "dancer world" I am OLD.

Besides that I can't tell anyone. The only person that would know is a girl that I used to work with and she is moonlighting as well and working in a club about an hour from where we live. She make good money and likes it there.

I am not looking forward to working that far from home and the late nights but it's the only way I could do it.

I am looking forward to the money and making my own schedule and not having to deal with the stress my current position is bringing me every day. I used to like working there and now I dread it.

If you went back are you glad you did? Regret?

I was friends with a dancer who's 33 and recently resumed dancing after years of doing something else (tattoos and piercings). She is very fit and toned and has a cute face. She does not look like she also has a teenage son.

I still don't get why so many dancers think that being above 30 is old. I had known so many beautiful and top earners who are over 30, and in the places I had danced they are the ones who look the best.

the only regret i ever had was not staying in and making as much as i could for as long as i could. i feel like i've wasted so much time and money by not applying myself as consistently as i think i should have. right now, i'm actually a nurse, and even that couldn't prevent me from going back to dancing (as much as i thought it would). i'm just trying to get ahead while i can, and so are you, i assume.

but i totally understand where you're coming from. getting older changes your priorities, and what you want out of life. i'm finding i want more time with family and friends than money and a lavish lifestyle. but you also have to provide for yourself and those you love.

don't feel bad about it. like alanis morrisette said "life has a funny way of sneaking up on you." any job is a means to an end, including dancing. i think if you made a plan for where you want to get financially and how to get there will make you feel better about things?

Hah! I'm about to enter my 30's leaner and meaner. I spent my 20's in a chubby haze. I lost 30 llbs and I look damn good. Age is just another number. Don't let that hold you back. We need some veterans that look good to enter the scene and revive it.

I do really well with the 18-35 crowd. They love my tattoos and my mohawk. Occasionally I'll get a pensioner but usually he's a closet freak. My boyfriend prefers older women, not just dancers. He waved away one 18 year old with "My girlfriend is 10 years older than you and 20 llbs skinnier!"

over 30 is not too old..its all about how you look! i see girls in their 20s with deep wrinkles, bad bodies, and bad teeth and then girls in their 30s who look amazing. its really not about a certain number, its about how you take care of yourself

I think there are plenty of benefits that come with dancing older. I think older SC customers enjoy seeing older women dancing - and older custies are often the ones with the greatest amount of disposable income! It makes many older men uncomfortable to see a club filled with 18-20-year olds who not only make the customers feel comparatively old, but also make them feel a bit pedophilic. Also, in general, older women are less likely to attract customers who are looking to take advantage of the dancers or waste their time. And older women tend to be able to provide better conversation, are better hustlers, and take better care of their bodies.

I might even consider this an ideal path (for non-career dancers): dance when you're younger to gain industry knowledge and sales skills, take a break to establish career longevity outside of dancing (college, advanced degree, job experience, etc.), and then return to dancing in your 30s to supplement your vanilla income.

I took 2 years off, and am 30. I am most often guessed between 22-24. I usually just tell guys whatever age they guess. You don't have to tell anyone you are over 30.

I think I understand you. I have that feeling too; once I got settled into the vanilla life I got used to it and whenever I would go back to the club it would seem like the dancers are younger, more annoying, customers even more annoying. I'm not thirty just yet (almost), but I feel you. Mentally, I feel too old for the bullshit and drama that comes with working in clubs, the customers and the late nights. I feel it in my bones, and the longer I am out of dancing the more I feel as though I am worlds away from that old life.

I still dance here and there and have no regrets, but I'm not always glad to be back. Lately I have been having to go back out of necessity and this contributes to why I'm not always glad to be back. My suggestion would be to put up with it as long as you can to make the money you need, and go back into retirement if you wish.

Yeah, I just did this, and I am actually really happy. I definitely look better than I did in my 20's because I started eating healthily, working out and having more money to invest in myself. And shit, I am a woman now and not a girl and I think that is way sexier. I think the key is not to think of yourself as an over-the-hill dancer who had to go back, but a hustler who is taking advantage of the fact she has the experience and sexy know-how to go back for some extra cash. (once a stripper, always a stripper - there's things we understand that regular chicks will never get). If you don't go in thinking it's fun, you won't make money, but if you figure out what your hustle is - sexy MILF or whatever, which I can't pull off because I'm not a mom, I'm more like a late bloomer whose age doesn't match my lifestyle, but I love the MILF thing - all men get so excited thinking about a horny, sexually experienced "mature" woman so work whatever angle you can!

I danced in my late 20s and then went back (briefly) when I was 31. When I got back in the club, my age fell away. Nobody thought I looked "old." Nobody guessed I was over 30. In fact, dancing in my 30s felt EXACTLY the same as dancing in my 20s. You may be anxious about your age now, but when you get in the club, you'll be back on your game and you won't think about it. It's instinct, like muscle memory.

For me, when I went back, it reminded me of why I'm glad I left. The same old hustle, the same money like pulling teeth, the same customers wanting more and paying less. I don't regret going back. And I don't regret leaving again.

Within reason, being an older dancer is a HUGE blessing. Looking after your body is a given, however if you are willing to use your experience of the game to show off a certain maturity, confidence and ability to rise above just using your looks, you are at a massive advantage. In my experience and that of watching others, these are some of the very qualities that older dancers harness to outdo the younger (and sometimes prettier) competition.

When I started dancing at 18, I would often be jealous of some of the older dancers who were spending most of their shifts in VIP sipping champagne with their clothes on when I was getting butt naked selling dance to dance. I remember one in particular in her mid-30s, cropped blond hair, reasonable shape, very average and mumsie looking but VERY good at connecting with men. It's generally true that the young ones focus on perfecting their aesthetics, but if you're older with greater life experience you will find that if you put your mind to it, you will generally more adept at ferreting out the real reason most men are at the club which - when you make that known - will make it harder for them to say no to you.

I'm too burned out. I really don't feel like doing it, at least for now. However, I stay "relevant" by bartending at strip clubs. More recently, I applied for a management position.

Not yet 30, but my $.02: IMO 'over the hill' is more of a physical thing, for me, than an age thing. My body was pretty roughed up from sports injuries b4 dancing -- dislocations, tendonitis, the kind of shit that dancing really exacerbates. My joke at work was that chronologically I'm 20-whatever, but my joints are abt twice that old. It's bc I look like still early 20s but my joints feel & sound like I'm 80.

Much of my problem stemmed from not taking care of those old injuries when I first got them. I would do a minimal bandaid-type treatment, if anything, then go back to my sports b4 having had enough time to heal. What can I say, older, wiser & creakier now, but it sure seemed like a good idea at the time! The times I have done that as a dancer, I notice my body has much less tolerance for that nonsense & I end up w/ smtg that has me out of work for a wk or more.

Idk your current age or 'injury historý but I think this is a lot of what contributes to 'feeling over the hill'. This job takes a major physical toll on our bodies & minds alike. My best advise for 'feeling younger' would be to take THE BEST possible care of your body, regardless of age. Good eating & exercise, & listen to your body when it's telling you it needs a break.

Ugh, thats what ticks me off... I danced back in college fresh and underage. I danced for about 8 years, made a killin' and didn't save a lick.
I went into several other industries after dancing but I grew bored of 9-5ers or MGMT jobs so, last year at the age of 31, I started dancing again. First part time while I had another business on the side. But now its full time dancing and strip trips. Pretty much my main focus as the money is good.

This time I'm being smart about $$$$ and i love doing it (although I do struggle with emotional issues at times)

No one really knows I dance. I've only told 2 people in my life. Another 2 friends happen to walk in while I was working but honestly, it sounds more awkward than it really was.

Being in our 30's gives us an advantage I feel. All women are beautiful but in your 30's, you are at your peak! Rock it woman! No one knows your age but you!

Default Re: Any of you (older...30's) ladies go back after time off?

I'm 44 years old. I stopped dancing in 2006 (mid 30's) and returned in 2012. I can't stand sitting at a desk all day, and had to leave my corporate job as the inactivity was slowly draining me of my vitality.

I'm so glad I returned to dancing. I'm having a great time and not only am I usually the oldest dancer working, I'm also consistently the top earner. I work hard in and out of the club. I have a huge list of customers who I text with regularly. I work the day shift and even pull in $1000 on occasion.

I figure, barring any serious health issues, I could keep this up for another 10 years if I choose to.

I know not everyone can do this. I'm very, very health and fitness conscious. I watch what I eat very closely and exercise almost every day. I'm an endurance cyclist (going for a little 50 mile ride today), I have a personal trainer who teaches me pole moves, I spend too much on beauty products/services, and I have a bone structure that makes me look child-like (big eyes, small nose, round cheeks). It's almost like I was born to do this job, so I figure why should I try to do something else if I don't have to?

ETA: Going back was hard. I quit my corporate job with the intention of going back to dancing, but it took me 3 months and living off of the majority of my savings before I could work up the nerve to go back. I finally picked a club and just showed up one day. I was hired on the spot and worked the whole shift. I didn't make much, but I did make more than some of the other dancers working that day. That was enough to keep me coming back.

Sometimes I tell people how old I am. I'm more likely to do so if the person is an older gentleman. Mostly, I never bring it up. I think the customers assume I'm in my late 30's, and I don't correct them. One gentleman guessed me at 26, but I'm pretty sure he was just trying to flatter me.

I retired for the first time aged 31. I've come out of retirement a few times since then - last time aged 36 - and i'm considering it again.

For me age has never been a factor - i started relatively late, aged 26. What is a factor is the state of the industry and economy and how much money i can earn. That is the thing that has changed dramatically. Mainly; more girls, less money, lower standards. You have to hustle a lot harder these days and certainly where i am (the UK) there is a tendency towards a 'pile me high sell em cheap' business model.

As far as your personal hustle goes you can use your age to you advantage. Having more conversational skills and generally being more relaxed in your own skin without needing to rely on alcohol or cliches goes down very well with higher spending customers. I used to work with younger dancers who couldn't believe my age and made a point of telling customers who would then be intrigued - again, it bought me a lot of higher quality customers. IT also helps that you are less prone to getting involved in silly petty drama and managers view you as more reliable and trustworthy.

Just wanted to say TourdeFranzia you are AMAZING!

Olive dlv and other ladies in this thread who went back post 30 something you are too! Even a few months ago I was so stuck and didn't know how I could do it. I knew I still looked good enough because I got more male attention than ever (not that I measure myself by that, but in this line of work it's legit) and the fact that I am naturally inclined towards a healthy lifestyle, but my motivation and attitude were in a really bad place, in fact I was in a really bad place in general, I really felt like I had failed at everything else I tried, and it's not so easy to pick yourself up and try again when you are in your mid 30's and haven't met your own goals. It took me just sheer desperation to go back and even more willpower to stay when I really sucked at first but you are a testament - it can be done. I think attitude is everything.

I also took several 'extended breaks' from dancing throughout my 30's until finally hanging up my heels as I approached age 40. Agreed that the physical return to dancing was in fact a lot easier to take than seeing the changes in the exotic dancing industry which had occurred since the last time I had worked in a club ( lower dancer standards, higher customer expectations re 'extras', hustling harder to earn the 'same' money, etc. )

Also agree with Tourdefranzia that, these days, dancers in their late 30's, 40's, and even early 50's, do NOT have a customer acceptance problem. In point of fact, thanks to the economy 'widening the gap' between higher and lower earning guys over the course of the course of the last few years, the majority of customer dollars walking in the club's front door are actually in the pockets of a minority of 'older' customers. And, with some glaring exceptions, those 'older' customers prefer to spend time with, and money on, dancers who aren't younger than the customers' own daughters !!!

Obviously this also requires a huge effort on the part of the 'older' dancers to stay in shape, to watch their diets etc. to be able to present those 'older' customers with 'quality' goods !!!

I went back at 27 after 3 years off and I'm so glad I did. I was able to purchase my own home two months ago. I'll continue as long as I like it and it likes me.

Age has nothing to do with it--- BE A HUSTLER!! I can't tell you how many young girls I've talked to over the years, who whine about not making any money and it's past 12am. Pretty girls with no confidence, or hustling abilities (face palm!). On the flip side when I worked at The Lodge in Dallas, there were a ton of girls 30+ who absolutely banked. They knew were doing and owned their customers. Dancing requires mental toughness. You either have it or you don't. (That being said, I've definitely needed my breaks from burnout)

Please keep in mind the following: We work in the dark with amazing lighting. Most of the customers are drinking or 1/2 in the bag. You have an edge on the newbies. And don't forget the power of good makeup, spray tan, botox, fillers. Good luck and just focus on taking $$$ out of wallets.

Also, if you really feel out of place, maybe find a dayshift at an upscale club?? Businessmen on their "Executive Lunch". They are the Boss, spend $$ and leave early. Less B.S. than night shifts.

Just to reiterate this statement, yes, it is hard to stay on top of the fitness and beauty routine. I do it anyway dancing or not, but dancing helps me pay for all the salon visits and gym memberships ect.

I'm getting to the point that I'm starting to think about pricier anti-aging treatments like Botox and IPL facials. So far I've been doing fine without, but I plan on heading down that path within the next 6 months. These beauty treatments are something I would seek out even if I wasn't dancing, but being a dancer makes them not only financially doable, but also tax deductible (or at least I'm going to try!).
