Default How strict are UK clubs RE: body type?

    Hi everyone,

I have an audition this Saturday at a lap dancing club in Luton (I'll be travelling from London) and I was wondering if the clubs in the UK are strict when it comes to like body shapes. I'm a UK size 12, thats a US 8 I think. I'm not THAT toned. I have a wobbly belly that sticks out a bit and I do have cellulite on my thighs but I wouldn't say it's that bad. I'm also a natural 32GG and my boobs sag a bit, would the customers/managers care? What are my chances of being accepted? Should i crash diet before my audition?

One more thing, where can i get a cheap basque in London? I've looked online but i'd like to try before i buy

Any help and advice is appreciated

Like everything else, the types of bags/purses allowed will vary by club. Sm do not permit you to have a bag or purse on the floor at all, you can only have a garter. This is one more thing to ask abt at audition or while making your audition appt.

Personally I always wear a garter since it is on me from the time I dress for work until I undress at home, & my favourite kind of purse is a drawstring style w/ a deep pouch, & the drawstring large enough to sling over my shoulder or around my neck if I need to have both hands free. When I wore tall boots w/ multiple layers of athletic socks underneath I could also shove notes into them in a hurry, & esp hide larger bills in them.

It really depends on the club. Back when i first started dancing very few places would have hired you but these days standards are more relaxed. As you are out of shape then try to be as polished and well groomed as possible - good hair, nails, tan (the tan will help disguise the cellulite) and clothes. And for goodness sake stand up straight. Do you have dance skills? Either way, try to watch some dancers online and see the way they move.

The small purse can been a small clutch - something you can keep your money, phone (if allowed on the floor), lipstick and bullet sized perfume bottle in. New look tends to be good for them.

As for a basque, they aren't the easiest thing for beginners to dance in - all those hooks. Leg Avenue make basque looking dancer wear most of which is stretchy/ one size - have a look online, if you want to buy in London then head to Camden.

Try Anne Summers for the basque. It really depends on the club you won't know until you go.

    Echo the various posts.

What club are you going to? Is there a link online? Chances are, someone on here may know it and tell you what you need to save you a potentially wasted trip. Not all clubs have the same hiring standards, but it's always better to know what to expect so you are best prepared.

As for outfits, I'm of the view a basque may not be appropriate if you are new, but if you really want one then I second audrey_k's suggestion to try Ann Summers. I don't know if La Senza do them to but it couldn't hurt to check.

As far as purse, I would say a small clutch should do the trick. I don't think I've danced anywhere in the UK where you weren't allowed to carry a purse (we aren't as hot on garters as they are in the USA). A lot of nicer clubs prefer that the purse is small but have no restrictions other than that. I only ever worked in one where they demanded everyone specifically had clear plastic purses and they would provide them (this was to enforce that dancers only carried dance tokens and not cash, and to discourage business cards)....that club is shut now.

Also, if you just want a quick fix to get in shape for audition night, try going to a salon to get a body wrap to lose an inch or two (the weight loss is only very temporary but might be OK just to help with that first impression). I am not an advocate of crash dieting because it is non-sustainable and you can gain more weight after you stop them. I would suggest starting a proper rather than a crash diet. Find a healthy meal plan with a good exercise regimen. If you pursue dancing, your body is your investment so you want long term results to carry you through. The lasting results will be great for your looks, confidence and money!

^This. I do carry a purse, but a wear a garter also (for stage tips, in case my purse is full etc). Small clutches with a wrist strap (I don't know what that's actually called lol) so that you have less of a chance of loosing it.

A girl I know worked in London (at a few clubs) and she's an Aus/UK size 12 (US size 8 ) as well, not toned, with large natural breasts. She didn't have any trouble getting hired, which surprised me.

If there are any recent posts about the UK in the club chat section, it might pay to have a look as there might be some info' there.
