Hi everyone,
I am new to dancing and I'm trying to decide how to communicate with customers without giving out my real phone number.
Do any of you have a second phone, use google voice, or use another sort of chat app?
Thanks!

I use google voice. I was a beta tester and can see where it has gotten so much better. Some dancers have burner phones they use for their customers. I have found it to be a very valuable sales tool.
I tried both Google Voice and the Burner app, but I found that both were a hassle to use. This is probably not a popular choice, but I use my actual number. However, the only customers who have it are three stable regulars whom I've known for like, a year. I don't give my number out willy-nilly.
I've yet to have it backfire.

i use a prepaid. i've found it helps a great deal with being able to get ahold of regulars and coaxing them into coming in on slow nights. sure, i could give people out my schedule, but 9 times outta 10 they will forget, and they can't call the club because the door men refuse to give out schedules or tell them who is working for privacy reasons.
I have a separate number for customers, but I only give it to regulars, or potential regulars that have spent a decent amount on me.

I have two phones! Besides the privacy issue it's nice to be able to leave one at home or turn it off if I don't want to be bothered with work. If they have your personal number you can't get away from them!

Crappy prepaid phone here.

You could also create a dancer email and give that out instead. That's what I did for the first couple of years of my dancing career since it was so easy to keep it separate from my real life, plus so many people are constantly on their email anyway thanks to smartphones, so it can be as effective as texting.
Same as Shanna for me, I created an email using my fake real name.
^^I do the same, email is so much less of a hassle
So, I give out my real phone number but luckily for me, I have Iphone5S so I can block as many numbers as I need to. I actually haven't had a problem with giving out my number yet.
Hey I just wanted to give you girls a heads up about giving out your real number. There is a website called www.namefromphone.com and it gives you the person's full name. It doesn't give the full name for some numbers though. When I type in my phone number and the numbers of some of my friends, the full name does appear. But it's just something to think about when giving out your real phone number.
I would get your feet wet before you start chatting (for free!) with customers OTC. "New to dancing" can mean very different things, and I don't mean to say that you are necessarily naive, but I've seen plenty of new girls get manipulated by customers they've gotten too close to. I would set up an easy-to-remember e-mail account and give that out to bigger spenders only.
If you want to build regulars, a good strategy is to work the same shifts every week, and mention to everyone who does a few dances which days you work.
Get the google voice. And download the app to your phone. It really comes in handy.
