    Smiley Invisalign

So I'm going for Invisalign moldings later this month, and want to know what people's experiences have been? I've searched a bunch of other forums, and people either seemed to love it or to hate it. I'm going through with it however . I'm getting Invisalign Express because my case is so minor with slight crowding of bottom teeth.

I had metal braces back in the day as a pre-teen, but of course my wisdom teeth (and the one that grew into my jaw bone) messed up the bottom ones a little. There's two teeth that are slightly out of place on the bottom. They don't bother me, but my dentist says they interfere with my bite and can cause jaw problems in the future. I confirmed this with another dentist, and with the Invisalign dentist. (Sorry lol I just like using each of my dentists for different things they're good at). I originally said I wanted veneers, but all of the dentists told me that's a horrible idea for perfectly healthy teeth with a good shape & appearance. So I trust them. Makes sense.

My Invisalign dentist says Invisalign Express should correct it (4-5 months of wearing the "braces" and 1-2 months for them to arrive into the office after molds), so about 6 months. He says if I, for some reason, need a longer amount of time, I can just extend it and buy additional trays. And I'm sure it will be nowhere near as painful because: a.) my teeth are only moving slightly, and b.) I've had metal braces before to correct large issues.

    So... experiences? Tips? I'm excited

I have them currently. On tray 3 of 39. They hurt like hell for about 2 days when you switch aligners, but I'm ALREADY noticing results (not visually, but flossing is easier since my teeth were crowded).

Any further questions, feel free to pm me.

I would LOVE to get Invisalign!
My teeth are pretty good, but they cross over ever so slightly at the bottom.
It would probably be cheaper if I do it next time I'm in the US, how often do you have to go back to the dentist for checks? Or could my dentist here do the checks if I paid for Invisalign in the US and bought it back here?

I am supposed to go to the orthodontist every 6-12 weeks depending on tray progression and new "button" positions if needed. Mine were $5900, but my teeth are pretty fucked up. Lol.

Mind my asking what your price quote was? I have the same problem with my lower teeth crowding a bit after braces because of my wisdom teeth and was thinking of doing Invisaline, but I wanted an idea of cost for the 'accelerated' short type of session with only a few months of trays. My dentist said I would qualify, but I haven't gone to an orthodontist quite yet.

As far as I am aware, Invisalign is all done in the USA. So you get the mould done and sent off. So yes I assume it would be cheaper to do it in the USA as you won't have the sending off and extra processing time. As for your UK dentist checking your invisalign done by another dentist I am not so sure they would be very happy to because in my experience the cost of the check ups and refittings for new moulds are inclusive of the whole price for the invisalign, so you could be out of pocket every time you need the mould readjusted or putting in a new one. Also with invisalign you get CDs of 3D models displaying the process of your teeth aligning over time and this takes extra time too, so I don't know how long you stay in the US for but it isn't a quick two session max sorta process.

For pricing in Australia invisalign is about 10,000 australian dollars as a sort of base minimum. So in America I assume it's about half that price.

I've had my Invisalign for about four months now -- absolutely love them! They're irritating at the beginning, but I found that I got used to having them in my mouth, and taking them out to eat, really quickly. I do have a slight lisp occasionally, but apparently I'm the only one who notices it.

I use a machine called Accelledent to speed up the process. Essentially it's a small mouthpiece that I use for 20 minutes every day, and it causes the teeth to vibrate and move faster. As a result, I change my aligners once a week, instead of once every second week. It's also really handy in relieving discomfort. (Changing to a new set of aligners is uncomfortable for me because it feels so tight.) Definitely recommend it if you can afford it.

As for pricing, I paid almost $7,000 (Australian dollars) for my aligners, and an additional $1,300 for the Accelledent machine.

    Good luck! x

I reeeeeally look forward to hearing anything and everything about Invisalign, because I plan to have it done as soon as I can. My teeth are pretty jacked up in my opinion, but not as badly as some of the cases I've seen before/afters for, so I'm especially excited to hear about any results you're willing to report, Tsempet.

But I guess I'm gonna have to switch to lip stain and gloss first, lol. Would hate having lipstick going bad in the tube while I wait for them to be straight!

$2,200. But mine is invisalign express 10 trays. They also have 5 trays, and then there's the normal longer invisalign. I only have 2 teeth slightly out of place, and its only the bottom teeth. So I am only getting one bottom tray.

Keep in mind also, different places have different prices. One of my other dentists wanted to charge me $3,500. And some dentists allow you to buy additional trays instead of upgrading packages, if it turns out you need them.

I chose my invisalign dentist off of yelp. He had really good reviews, good prices, and invisalign seemed to be his specialty. I did the same thing with my other 2 dentists. One does amazing cleanings, and the other does amazing crowns/veneers/restorative work. Definitely look at reviews and see what everyone raves about, in regards to each dentist's specialties.

I had braces when I was young & lost the retainers so my teeth had shifted so much. Then I got Invisalign. They shaved down the sides of my teeth to have them rotate/move. I should have said no to that because now food gets stuck in between my teeth when it never has before. Then, once again, I lost the retainers after I was done. My teeth became crooked again. Then I got clear correct (inexpensive version of Invisalign that works the same), just finished all my trays. I won't be losing my retainers again!

Oh my God, these hurt so badly that I think I would cry if I lost my retainer (when it's finished) and I had to do it all over again.

So the final cost ended up being $2,000 for me. Invisalign Express 10. No tax, no hidden fees, all teeth filing & exams included. +$600 at the end if I decide I want a retainer. I never wore my retainer after my metal braces and my teeth never shifted (though finally did years later when I had a mean wisdom tooth grow into my jaw). I'll probably get it anyway just in case.

PM me if you're in the LA area and want his name! Super good deal, it said it normally retails for $4,000 and that's around the quotes I got from my other dentists as well. He has really good reviews and although he is a dentist, I think his specialty is invisalign. They told me over the phone that's what most of his clients come in for. He is in Burbank.

He also takes Care Credit, but I'm not sure how many months his payment plans are because I didn't pay using Care Credit.

I did Invisalign when is was 13 for a year and my teeth came out perfect! They were pretty crooked before. It's of utmost importance to get new retainers twice a year if you use the plastic ones because they lose their grip after a while. It's also extremely important to wear your aligners all the time, otherwise your teeth are likely to shift. I had to redo mine last year for that reason
Other than that my experience was great! Good luck!

Wait, can you guys explain this retainer issue? I, and the majority of my friends when we were at the typical ages, never had braces so I'm really kinda lost except for the concept of "you wear one after braces." I'm curious about things like when you need to wear them, how long after the braces come off, etc.

It's really different from one doctor to another, but also how the patient's teeth were before... I've had friends who only had to wear their retainers for a couple of years after their braces came off, 24/7 for the first months and then only at night. In my case, I got my braces removed after 2 years last week and my ortho told me I would only need to wear them at night, but lifelong.... Even though I also have the permanent retainers (the metal wire) on the back of my front top and bottom teeth.

Teeth have memory and will shift back to their original position if they aren't retained. The problem with Invisalign vs traditional braces is that it's up to the patient how many hours a day the aligners stay on (preferably as long as possible). A lot of people who have braces end up requiring a retainer at least for nightwear, and the length of use is indefinite. Talk more with your orthodontist if you're unsure

So... invisalign seems very painless so far. I've had metal braces (semi-painful at times), but invisalign is a walk in the park so far!

Does it get more painful as time goes on and you start nearing the end of your trays? I only have 10 trays total, and will be done with treatment in January.

    Hello Ladies,

This is actually my first post ever, but I have been a longtime reader here on SW. I thought I would finally get involved in the community instead of stalking the forums for years lol.

Anyways, I have Invisalign and I LOVE them! I use to have perfectly straight top teeth, and then I always had horribly crammed bottom teeth. My bottom right fang protrudes so far out, I have a wrinkle on my chin from it! Then after not removing my wisdom teeth til I was 23 years old, (I have a very small mouth) they came in and started cramming my top teeth. I started to get a snaggle tooth! My two front teeth started to over lap and it looked horrible in pictures! My smile is also 4 mm off to the right, rather than directly under my cupid's bow. So my quest for a perfect smile started in October with me removing all 4 of my wisdom teeth. I even drove 2.5 hrs to St. George Utah to extract them with Sedation and saved $400 vs if I were to be put to sleep in Vegas for the same procedure. Then I too found my Orthodontist on Yelp but he was not cheap compared to others. I went with him becuase of his reputation, and also I have horrible credit and he does inhouse financing with no credit check. I put $2k down and pay $210 a month. My total is $6900 but I have a long treatment process. I get 3 trays at a time, and go in every 6 weeks to see my ortho.

It took the 8 weeks to get my trays so my treatment started right after New Years of this year. I have an extreme case, matter of fact the first orthodontics said I dont even qualify for invisalgn because my bottoms are too crammed and I would have to exract a tooth first. The orthodontics I went with is using IPR which is where they shave the teeth making them more narrow so they turn into place. I am on tray 17 of 21 and my teeth look so much better its insane! I have 2 years of treatment and I'm only 9 months in. After tray 21 I actually have to get molded again and start the entire process over. I hope I get these attachments off then. They are little white squares glued to your teeth. Thats probably the only part I dont like about invisalign, that and my teeth getting shaved. The pain isnt bad for me but I figure its proabably different for everyone. I have a high tolerance for mouth pain. I only had 4 cavities in my life, and I had them all filled at the same appointment without any anesthetic. I was 18 and had no insurance, needed to save the cash lol. They do hurt for a bit everytime you put a new tray in so I always put a tray in right before bed, so I can sleep thru the initial wave of pain. It does seem to get more painful on my bottom as time goes on.

Im still figuring out how to use the site, I am horrible with technology lol but feel free to message me for before and after pics. Cant wait to see them at the end of next year!

On a note that I mentioned earlier, I FINALLY found a lip product that doesn't get all over my trays. I'm a red lipstick lover, so I was really kind of upset about not being able to wear it.
