Mind Blowing Hair & scalp troubles

So, Idk if these two things are two separate problems or if they are related, but I have been struggling w/ dandruff (pretty mild so far, but still a nuisance) & losing what I feel like is a ton of hair, esp in the shower.

I thought the dandruff was just from too many yrs of scrimping on shampoo/conditioner, settling for the horrid dollar-store brands, but the last couple times restocking them I have said Fk it & gone for decent mid-priced brands. Have not seen much difference tho, but none of them have been specifically for dandruff as I figured a higher-quality product would be enough by itself to correct the problem.

The other thing is my hair falling out -- I know it's normal for sm of it to come out when you wash it or brush & style, but it is starting to feel like A LOT of it is coming out every time I shower, even on days when I do not shampoo it. There is also a pretty irritating amt on my clothes & pillow when I wake up. It's not dropping out like I just had chemo & I have not found any bald spots but I am really starting to get annoyed w/ it.

I make the effort to not use my nails when I scrub my hair, brush gently, & have not regularly colour-treated my hair in ages. The last time was highlights abt a month ago, after not having any chemical treatment for a couple yrs prior. Nvr bleached my hair or anything hardcore like that.

Any ideas on how to fix?

Hmm, look into Shea Moisture: http://www.sheamoisture.com/African-...oap_c_119.html
I never used that specific prod(s). But I like & use some of their other stuff, they have several different lines. Sold @ Ulta, Walgreens, walgreens.com, Target, CVS & their own website as linked above.
Are you under a lot of stress? I was a couple mo. ago, had mad hair fall out I was sure it was hormonal, but it's stopped. How's your diet? Do you take vitamins? I'm taking some hair/skin/nail supplement, but I'm going to get Bonita Advanced brand from amazon.
    Also, this is GREAT: http://www.sallybeauty.com/braid-she...+Pride&start=8
Dont get the bottle w/the red cap!
Also, try aloe gel 100% no alcohol, avacado oil, tea tree (but most of that is in the above prod) I spray it on my scalp several times a day very soothing! I got a very dry, itchy, irritated scalp (during my hair fallout) & I had to stop using 20 volume peroxide (I now use 10).
How often to you wash your hair? I had to stop washing more than once a week (even w/non sulfite). If my hair needs help (which it does), I just wet the length, apply conditioner, & rinse. I use dry shampoo & the above mentioned Braid Sheen Spray.

I use this too, not as much.
    Also, scalp massage

For severe dandruff issues, try coal tar shampoo.

i would get a good sulfate-free/silicone-free shampoo specifically for dandruff, and a really good moisturizing conditioner. really massage your scalp well with the soft pads of your fingers when you shampoo. if you have a sally's near you i'd go there..their prices can't be beat for good professional shampoos and conditioners.
as for the hair loss, if you have insurance i would go see a doctor about it just to rule out any medical reason for hair loss..other than that, biotin and B complex vitamins are good for hair growth and you could do a coconut oil mask over night and give yourself another scalp massage to stimulate hair growth. thyroid problems, illness, chemicals, or medications are common culprits when it comes to disturbing the cycle of hair growth, have you had any problems with any of these recently?

    Thnx every1 for replies!

Stress … nothing too bad, annoyed at the delays in my enlistment process but not much beyond that. My diet is crap, that may be a good reason behind this. No medications or recent illness. Being back in FL I am surrounded by coconut trees so I am sure I can find a homemade recipe for the coconut repair stuff.

Just so you know, anything sulfate-free has always given me terrible dandruff and patches of dry flaky skin on my scalp that I'd pick at constantly. That stuff does not buff your head well enough for every single day use, you need to use a clarifying shampoo once a week if you do use it.

I think the falling out has to do with the weather and seasons. I get a lot of hair fall during certain seasons. Take your vitamins and don't keep it up in tight ponytails or put much stress on it for now

Today I bought from Vitamin Shoppe, avacado oil, which has vitamns A & E also protein in it. 4 oz bottle for like 8.00 lasts a long time. It says it's good for your scalp & dry skin probs. I usually use it on my ends. I just put some in my hand (start out w/sm. amts.) & rub my hands together & put it on my ends. Love to use it on my hands & nails too.

I did this to myself!! I let it get so bad that I started losing hair from all the flakes. I would scratch and they would flake and bleed. It was so bad I didn't want to leave my house because ppl would see. Idk why I didn't go to the doctor. One night I was doing a manicure and used the olive oil they sell at Sallys, it's like 4$ ... I read the directions and It said it's good for dry itchy scalp. Its called PROCLAIM natural 7 oil. I put some on my body, then said eff it, ill try it on my head. I only did it once, I left it on my scalp for like 20 minutes. I had been meaning to see a doctor about my scalp but the oil almost cleared it all up. I might even do another treatment to take it off completely. I went to the doctors recently for a non scalp related visit. He said it's intense severe dandruff. Prescribed a medicine...Im weird about medicine so if this next treatment dsnt clear it up completely, ill try the medicine. Hopefully this helps. My scalp was bad. I lost like 35% of my hair from all the bloody patches, my head would burn with showers from all the scabs. Ok tmi. Lol

I had tried head and shoulders, selsum blue, and even the Neutrogena one that's suppose to be the strongest, none worked. Give the oil a try. It dsnt sound like its as bad as mine got so hopefully it helps.

Yea, I don't really like those shampoos, they are pretty strong. Glad the oil worked for you. You should def. give the African Pride Braid Sheen spray a try (Sally's) It's so soothing/refreshing for the scalp

If you have health insurance, I'd suggest visiting a dermatologist. There are various kinds of skin issues that can cause flaking, so it's not necessarily dandruff. (And if it isn't, the best/most expensive dandruff shampoo on the market is not even gonna help.) I struggled with a similar problem for my entire life, and just last year happened to mention it to my dermatologist in an offhand comment during a visit about something else. She prescribed a topical liquid that is AMAZING, and has literally been the only thing I've ever tried that works. I wish I'd thought to say something sooner!
