    Default Who uses grip aids?

Hey, everyone so I've recently taken up training to learn some new pole tricks and further my skill level at a local pole studio. A lot of the ladies there use pole grip aids on their hands to keep from slipping on the pole. Do any of you dancers use grip aids? It's definitely not common here in Portland.

I never have but with the rise in humidity in my area I'm about to pick some Dry Hands up to help with my sweaty hands problem. It's really not common where I'm from either, most girls just use rubbing alcohol to nix the amount of germs/oil from hands on the pole.

I used Mighty Grip for a few years; it worked well enough, but was hard to wash off between sets and would leave my hands looking dirty by the end of the night. These days I just use hairspray.

FYI, there are a few old threads on this.

If your club isn't really good about cleaning the poles, it might piss other dancers off. I know I've personally found it frustrating to go on stage after a girl who gets goo all over the damn pole. I'd say avoid using it if you can and work on your grip strength. While pole tricks are fun, they're not a necessary part of a good show, so if you don't feel safe or look comfortable doing a move, don't do it. Too many girls are in a rush to do cool looking tricks and end up just being frightening to watch, and skip the basics like learning to walk sexy in heels, which should be essential.

That being said, if you do decide to use one, be careful with any of the chalk-based grip aids as they will glow in the blacklight and it looks bad on the floor if you have random white glowing patches on you.

I use it and don't care if other girls don't like it. Wipe the fucking pole down and move on. I wipe the pole down before starting not because of pole grip but because of all the skanks who play with their pussy/finger themselves while on stage and go back to spreading the venereal diseases to the pole OR the dumb bitches who wear body oil/put lotion on right before stage. Pole grip isn't health hazard so if someone gets pissy over it I'll just laugh and walk off stage. I use the "Dry Hands" type and it looks like jizz when I put it on my hands and I'm immature so it makes me laugh. I'm also super happy because of this immaturity lol

Vinyl/pvc boots help with climbing. I wouldn't use a rub or powder at the club. It's a good way to piss off a lot of dancers. I do the opposite and practice on a galvanized steel pole at home. It is tough to get a good grip on that kind of metal. This has helped me to better develop my grip and strength overall.

its one thing to use some sort of powder on your hands like what gymnasts do. but if you use that really awful tacky stuff not only are you fucking up the pole for everyone else but you're also fucking it up for yourself. you might be able to climb quickly with it but you wont be able to spin or slide without getting stuck and giving yourself pole burn. and if you really need that tacky stuff to climb, then you arent as good as you think you are and you need to spend more time building strength and perfecting your tchnique.

fyi even if the pole is really slippery, you can still do tricks if you have proper technique and strength. the plastic tops of shoes are all you need to climb. and hold yourself upside down.

I've personally never needed it but I don't do anything crazy like twisted grips or anything at work. I was working in Tampa for a few weeks and was SUPER annoyed by the Dry Hands that was just CAKED on the pole. I literally couldn't slide down the pole at all lol.....was in a handstand on the ground with the pole between my legs and was trying to slide down all sexy, and it just Indian burned the f*ck out of my thighs. I just gave up and awkwardly kind of hopped down lol so needless to say it fucked up my stage show. If you do use it, please for the other girls' sake don't cake it on and please clean it off afterwards!

The poles on my stage are caked with oil and lotion residue. The first thing I do when I come out on the floor is tackle booth poles with my own bottle of alcohol and my own clean cloth from ceiling to floor. It's also very humid, so near the ceiling the poles get slippery. Since I'm the only one who does tricks that high (no dancers in my club go up there) I prep them with firm grip, just in case I'm feeling daring and want to pull a death lay. Besides that I don't use grip that often.

I think every dancer should wipe down the poles before their stage set anyway, esp if it's a nude club. I don't cake that shit on I just put it on my hands. I get a clean washcloth and hand sanitizer (both provided by the club) and wipe down before starting. No big deal. If you're gonna be picky about pole grip perhaps you should be as picky about general diseases and clean that shit anyway.

Unfortunately- I work with some very oily dancers who don't give a damn about a clean pole or stage. I feel like a janitor sometimes:-(

I always wipe the pole down at the beginning of my set. Some of the girls at my club use ITac which can get really nasty and gross so i really have to wipe that thing. I use the tiniest amount of itac when I'm really exhausted or drunk and want support climbing and such but not enough to come off on the pole too badly and usually only in the winter when its freezing. In the summer when I'm super hot i never have a problem sticking to the pole unless some girl decided to put lotion or oil on or something. Never tried dry hands, might grip was good for when the AC broke in the club (!!!!! that blew). Also girls that use too much pole tack make a super awful noise when they do drops and other moves that create friction. The customers are always like ... ouch that sounded awful like it hurt..

I use Dry Hands as a grip aid and also bring my own pole cleaner and rag (xpole brand cleaner). I keep it in a smaller spray bottle in my bag and clean the poles off every set. I do the most pole tricks at my club and people tip really well for it, so it's definitely worth it for me.

    Not I.

    Hate that stuff

Obviously this is just my opinion, but I feel like it makes things worse for me. I learned how to do crazy polework without grip aids, so when I use it I feel off.

Itac sticks like a sunuvabitch & gets gummy, esp if you try to use a lot of it. Go w/ a liquid chalk or dry hands since they are easy to remove w/ alcohol by the nxt dancer. They can also have the added benefit of drying the bejeezus out of your hands, allowing blisters to form more quickly. Blisters lead to calluses, & calluses are your friends.

Also start strengthening your hands & wrists. Google pole trick grips (hand positions, not grip aids) & learn how to do them properly. This is crucial w/ split grips & twisted grips where you can cause a lot of dmg by performing the grip incorrectly.

I use itac in competitions, but never at work. It's so hard to take off: body and pole. Plus, we have light two way contact for LD's at work. I don't want to stick to the custie
