Well, I guess its time that my body started catching up with me after 7 years off and on of dancing and a lot of hiking in between. Does anybody have any good recommendations for severe lower back pain and crunchy knees? :-/

Yep, I can relate..I get them both on & off, mostly from doing a lot of walking..I try to self massage my knee, & do some yoga for my back..sorry kinda lame answers
Oh, also try Epsom salts in a hot bath.

I feel yah. My knees kill me even though I do minimal floor work. For this reason I channel my inner cat - ness and try to always land on my feet when I dance on stage. I don't feel as much pain or bruising but when I do, I use cold compress.
My back sometimes hurts too. Once, I experienced moderate back pain after trying a new pole trick. I went to the sauna for a few days and stretched and the pain eventually left.
But if your pain is severe you may need to go to an orthopedic doctor or chiropractor

Stretch, a bit of cardio (even 10 mins.), advil, core work, strengthen quads. These are some things that will help avoid or lessen pain in the future.

i have knee pain that was actually caused by a lower back injury that i left alone for too long - it caused my hip to weaken which in turn gave me knee pain. what's helped me is physio and doing yoga/stretches for that general area!

I get lower back pain and tightness pretty often. I try to do some yoga and go swimming and in a hot tub, and also I'd recommend trying a foam roller. If you have lower back tightness, you want to foam roll your hips, butt and lower back since the muscles are all connected. Strengthening your core should also help. I go for massages too but not as often as I should since it's pricy. Also, since I'm pretty tall, I started wearing short 3 inch heels at work and it hasn't affected my income. If you're taller, you could try wearing shorter heels or get ones with a bigger platform. The higher the heel, the more it throws off your alignment and can really hurt your back and knees.

I definitely have to deal with back pain every so often. This usually goes hand in had with my skipping back strength workouts for too many days in a row.
I use ThermaCare lower back 'heat wraps' for back pain relief. Hot tub or Jacuzzi tub is the ultimate, of course.
Agreed that lower heels will also help.

I love the heat wraps - i use them for a neck and shoulder issue

Take glucosamine sulfate for the rebuilding of the cartilage in your knees. Use arnica gel on your knees and muscles for pain relief. Tiger balm is really amazing pain relief for sore muscles and backs. It sounds like you could use a good lower back massage with heat therapy too.
I don't know if you're still dancing, but always wear stockings or leg warmers when you dance, to slightly soften the blow to your knees. Stretch for 10-15 minutes before work. Dance as little on your knees as possible. I put my weight into my arms and hands and the front of my feet when im in that position, so it looks like I'm on my knees, but actually, all the weight is off my knees. Doing this will help prevent the further wearing down of knee cartilage as much as possible.

I've found reverse situps to be helpful for the lower back, using something like this:
When you come up, just don't go past the point where your back is straight. I've found bending backwards makes my lower back worse.
