Is there any dramatic difference between what strippers looked like when they started out versus when they retired? Does stripping enhance what you already have beauty-wise or does it make people more hardened or both?

Depends on how many drugs you do and how well you take care of yourself. I've seen some retirees looking better than me and I've seen some 20 year olds with the faces of 50 year old meth addicts.

I'm not retired but I have been dancing on and off for 10 years. During the time that I was not dancing, I worked as a bartender so I've always kept late nights. The only time I did not was when I was a stay at home mother. I drink, I smoke, I occasionally eat bad food but I do believe in all things in moderation. I'm trying to quit smoking now because I feel like my age is starting to catch up to me. I do want to dance for another 5 years if I can. I've cut back on my smoking and alcohol intake since getting my boobs done in 2012 but I can admit that I drank WAY more when I was bartending than I ever did as a dancer. I don't think the life has hardened me much.
This is me when I started dancing, 10 years ago:

I think I look my age. I definitely know how to present myself better. I've only been dancing three years, however.

I'm almost 30 and look better than I did in my 20's. Age is a number.

only been dancing a little over 3 years, but i don't look any older or younger than i did when i started. but i've learned how to do my makeup and hair MUCH better, wear more flattering clothing, etc, and i'm happier with the way i look. if it was making that "hardened" i would stop

It depends on if you smoke or not, alcohol is a factor too, though not as much. Smoking is a biggie, and it's effects aren't obvious till one hits their 30's and 40's (if you start smoking later in life)

i dont think it makes a difference.
I know enough examples of busted-looking young dancers and hot moms/ grandmas that i feel convinced stripping is what you make of it. Your outcome depends so much on your particular personality and attitude towards the job.
Genes and general OTC lifestyle influence your looks more than anything.
Wearing high heels a lot in the long-term though, your feet and knees may be affected in ways that cant be diagnosed at first glance.
What is OTC? Btw, gotta love foot petals!

I don't think I look any different than if I hadn't been dancing for the past 4-5 years. I look older, yes, but I also started as a baby faced 19 year old. That said, I don't smoke, tan, wear make up, work in a club where smoking indoors is permitted, do drugs, or work late nights, so all of those have certainly factored in, I'm sure. But there are many women who don't work as strippers who do many of those things, all of which can possibly age you.
I think the most common difference you'll find in dancers before vs. after is plastic surgery or other cosmetic alterations. Certainly not amongst *all* dancers, but many do get their boobs done or botox or lip fillers or dye their hair or get extensions, etc., etc. Some ladies invest in their appearance, some take care of their bodies, some live hard. Like all things in this industry, I don't think there's a general rule or average that you can turn to and apply to all/most dancers.
If you're worried that you'll look different if you dance for a long time, take the steps necessary to ensure that doesn't happen -- or that it does in a positive way. Both a stripper and a regular woman can look good or bad for her age, it's all about how you take care of yourself.

I've been dancing for 9 years and I feel like I look different, but in a good way. I have big fake boobs, super long hair and definitely don't look "hardened".
But I think that's because I eat well, work out, sleep enough and don't smoke or do drugs.
Like everyone else is saying, stripping won't affect you negatively looks wise unless you partake in certain things and let that happen. If you choose to stay on the straight and narrow, you'll be fine.

hmmm ... let's see ...
my bustline is 12" bigger
my waist is 2" smaller
my butt is the same
my teeth look 10 x better thanks to veneers
my lips are fuller thanks to implants
I look and feel healthier overall since I don't have to 'pinch pennies' on groceries or medical / dental care
