Default I want to move to a small surfing town in the US.

I am dying in the desert lately. My friends are all moving away. I own a great house here and I make decent money dancing (nothing to brag about tho). I am pretty sure dancing and I will break up in the coming months. I will be able to rent my house out here. I have some ideas of places to go, but I don't want to steer your ideas in any way. I will say I like to ride bikes around town as well as mountain biking. I like good craft beer/homebrew scene. I like low cost living. Beginner to intermediate surfing all year even if I have to wear a thick wetsuit covering head and feet.
    Thanks for reading!

I would say come to Key West if not for the high cost of living -- I think it would be tough to find a town smaller than our literal 2 by 4sq mi & altho it's not the best surfing spot (unless there's a storm coming) we have all the other water sports. Besides, there are areas up the Keys just outside Key West that are better-priced.

Plus you get to come out drinking w/ me & Djoser!

year-round surfing plus 'low' cost of living are, by definition, mutually exclusive ... at least within the USA. Least of the evils are probably Hatteras NC or Point Pleasant NJ or maybe even Montauk NY !

    http://www.usa.com/

That apparently used to be citydata.com which had information on virtually every community, and discussion boards where people could ask questions and get answers from residents of the communities involved.

Wilmington NC but SOUTH END Wrightsville Beach are where the waves are at YEAR ROUND, less human traffic but no lifeguards. This is where the surfers are so they look out for each other.

My favorite surf shop is south end, owned local, a lot of locals look out for each other.
Wilmington is a college town but wrightsville is Wilmington.. you know how small towns are considered part of big towns.

Cost of loving single one bedroom, NICE APTS will run about 650-1000 depending
    Homes usually go for 1000.

Here is their live cam of surfs etc

Its small, there are few clubs and internet is great there.

We go year round. In the winter wet suits are needed but get super hot bc the weather here is funky it can be cold but when surfing
Break out the full wet suit prob in January

    Half suits til then.

    Good luck!
There are local bars. clubs, no cars needed, everyone skates, boards or bikes then we have the runners and walkers lol IF YOU are on the island of wrightsville there is no real need for a car.
The one nightclub dockside is across the bridge before Wilmington turns in to wrightsville

I would suggest moving to someplace like Salem or Eugene Oregon. You will have urban conveniences, relatively low cost of living, but are still only about a 45 minute drive to the ocean. If you want to keep dancing, there are decent clubs in Salem and Bend Oregon. Eugene is kind of a stripper wasteland. Portland is good, too, but the cost of living here is pretty high. I live in SW Portland and pay $1400/ mo for a 800 sq ft apartment. There is cheaper nearby, but I like the gated community/security that this neighborhood provides.

Carlsbad or Encinitas. Small surfing towns north of San Diego--less populated than Huntington. There's also Santa Cruz, California but the water's colder up there.

I live in a small beach town in Florida, it is well affordable, and a heavy load of tourist. A couple of my friends who strip, do very well.
Have lots of local breweries that popped up in the area. West coast has the best surf. The gulf coast has close to none from what I remember.

Hello everyone. I am bumping this thread. I do think I will check out wrightsville beach, so many thanks for that advice! My family lives in Maryland so that would be about a 6 hour drive which isn't so so bad. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Maybe in Virginia?

Also, since starting this thread I have adopted an amazing 8 month old Lab puppy from the shelter. I love her SO MUCH and I can tell she wants and needs to swim just like I do. I have been reading that Wrightville beach is not very dog friendly. Does anyone have other suggestions for my pup and I?

I think you and your dog would like VA Beach. The local areas are much nicer then the touristy area. The price is reasonable and it has a small town feel while having a decent night life. It's a navy town somewhat.

If you can work from home (Internet-oriented etc) San Luis Obispo/Los Osos, Central California Coast. NOT cheap but safe and hot year round. Nice beach, wealthy neighbors.

    Low budget living- the Carolinas.

The "other" coast of Florida & "Florabama" has fans too.

IMO I lived on islands for a long time & can say the novelty can wear off. I am perfectly fine living landlocked now. That's just me though....

Or Oceanside…which isn't as nice as Carlsbad or Encinitas but is much more affordable. You could afford to live on the beach.
