Default How to save for certain goals

    Hey ladies,

I have a pretty big goal that I'm trying to save up for (a nose job ~8k).

I know I'll get there but would obviously like to reach it sooner rather than later.

I was wondering how you save for whatever it is you're working towards.

Do you save 10% of each paycheck? Give your money to a family member so you can't spend it? Do you stop spending money on unnecessary items? Work more?

Looking for some good strategies and tips as to how you motivate yourself: )

I suggest working more, sit aside time to work specifically for that goal. That way you do not have to necessarily sacrifice your current quality-of-living or withhold a stipulated amount out of your regular earnings. For example, if there is a specific day you do not work, take 4 hours that day and work just for that purpose. And you are less likely to spend it because you know that you had to put in extra for it.

I am shit at saving.....probably would be crowned the worlds worst saver. Plus over the recent months I've had a big gambling habbit.

I basically set myself weekly goals, worked out how much I wanted to put towards my project and then how much I needed to live minimum, add them two together and that was my weekly goal.

I stopped buying myself clothes and unnecessary shit but I did gamble allot to win the money I needed (Which I did) and then lost allot. Just dont go down that road lol.

I don't save %'s. I usually just figure out the cost of the item or vacation that I want and the amount of time I want to raise the money by. Then I figure out how much my living expenses are and figure out how much more I need to make each day in order to reach that goal.

So let's say I want a $500 computer and I want to purchase it in 2 weeks. Working 4 days each week I would need to make $62.50 extra each day to each my goal. Being the weird person I am about having even numbers I'd probably try to make an extra $100 each day and knock it out in 5 days instead of 8.

If I wanted to put an extra $100 in savings a month I'd do the same thing.

Here's my budget to give you an IDEA:

Emergency Fund 40% ( however I pay my mortgage out of that so it's more like 25%) If I have any Credit card debt then 20% goes towards that and then I am just saving for mortgage pretty much. And then back to emergency fund when credit card debt gone.

Camming business I was saving 10% but now it's 0% because I racked up to much money to spend!.. This includes saving for taxes, and any computer equipment, makeup outfits , nails hair.. etc etc ..

Household and Car Repairs and Entertainment, Holidays : right now i am doing 10% of my income

    Beachbody Fitness: 2%

Real Estate Biz: 1% as I am not currently active in making money with it yet.

    Vacation: 4%

    Restaurants: 4%

Med/Dental: 1%... No insurance so I at least save something and we are all UBER healthy over here with Dr Schulze's stuff ....LOL AND good food.

My 360 Capitol One has goals set up where you can set up a goal with date to complete. You can make separate saving accounts for each goal. It is free to use!

I used to have a HUGE psychic addiction... I was so depressed and suicidal I would spend about $1600 a month on them.. just hoping they would tell me something good.. needless to say i just kept wanting more and of course nothing good ever happened except I was broke in the end.. Now I don't call them at all.. life sucks and it never got good..

*** I just typed my replied, and my mouse moved and it went all gone.

So I was saying that I try and save 20% of what I make from camming into my ING accounts and idealy 20% what I make from escorting into savings. but I haven't really figured out what my savings is being used for. the plan is to keep my savings in my high interest savings accounts and make pretty regular deposits based on what I am making from both businesses.

It can be a challenge to save when I am in a manic stage in my bipolar or in a pretty deep depression. but that is what I have to stick with. to see my goals happen, my big things right now are going to AVN in January, a few consumer sex trade show events and new equipment (cameras and computers). Plus my cosmetic surgery.

I think the only way to do it is to be disciplined enough to do it, I keep reminding myself that I was giving away almost half my money to escort agencies and I worked with the cash I had in my hand and didn't really notice the missing money because they agencies got it as soon as I did. so saving for myself should be treated the same way. once you save regularly you will be training your brain to not notice the missing cash and work with the dollars in front of you.

I just don't spend money. Like, never. I love thrifted stuff which happens to be good quality and inexpensive, but I don't even do a lot of that. And I do not have a budget.

I do spend money somewhat on food (higher quality food), but otherwise I just don't spend. I've been able to pay off a lot of things this way, as well as pay for dental work, surgery, new car, etc that I needed. Just pretend you never made it.

Also, you may be interested in a credit card called Care Credit to pay for medical expenses. Some doctors take it and payment plans run from 0mo - 18mo, but it might be incentive for you to work and pay it off? If you think it won't be, don't do it!

Years ago, I used to listen to Suze Orman audiobooks on the way to&from school, and I learned a lot of her methods. Hers are more for like, paying off debt though. She says to use the snowball effect and stockpile all your money toward the smallest debt. Then when thats paid off, stockpile it all to the next smallest, etc. Till you have like no debt.

In terms of saving, maybe go the investment route? I don't know much about investing other than Roth IRAs, but its next on my list to learn! There are lots of good books out there on amazon or your local library!

    On that note,
Yea that's where most of the money I spend goes to high quality food. I would rather have less of everything else than to have less of my health and considering i am approaching 42 in NOVEMBER. I feel guilty to myself if I skimp on low quality food and putting my health in jeopardy for the sake of being cheap. To old to compromise.
I used the CARECREDIT card for my breast surgery.. good card

I love SUZE orman that's what I do on SAturday nite..LOL.. isn't that funny.
And I like Dave Ramsey as well but there goals are not my goals.. they gear towards more the person who works 9 to 5 at a corporate job your whole life and then retire. Not my life.. but the principles they have are excellent.
I also like the Automatic Millionaire by David Bach which I do alot of those things to.

You might want to look into a SEP IRA.. it's for self employed people and you can put ALOT more money into it since we have no ACCESS to a 401k plan.. so i have one of those and a Traditional IRA.. for me I need a tax break now... I am scrimping with 2 kids one in college and the other i pay child support so now i pay taxes also on top of it so i am hurting and need the tax break now.

    All depends on your circumstances.

I also invest in regular Taxed investments and the lending club.. I love them I have 8 notes and so far everyone is paying. and i am earning almost 9% interest. I just dabble in it for now. Because I did do prosper and they both ended up being charge offs. this time around I only loan out $25 bucks to each person and I look for people who have pretty good credit and good jobs like Registered Nurse.. something that is almost recession proof..
I also have several thousands in a safe cuz you just NEVER know what is going to happen in life and can't get your money from the bank..LOL.. and all the shit i have been through?? I have enough money to get back on track and cover any of the bills.. YOu can even be sued and have all your accounts wiped out. So it's also a good idea to get a safe and stash some cash.

I always tell the story it all began with $5.. for those who think they can't afford to save money... every account I have pretty much I started with a measly $5.. and then when I thought i couldnt afford to save for IRA.. i started off with adding change daily to it and then went from there.. it adds up.
