Default Choosing the right shoe size

I am not sure if this thread should go here, it is not about stripper shoes but civilian heels. I hate shopping for shoes, it is so difficult to find the right size. Sometimes I wear 7, other times 6.5 or even 6... Ordering online is a nightmare, it is a different size everytime I change brands or shoe style...

Is there any way to make sure you are buying the right shoe size? I hate finding out only after I've worn them for the first time outside and having to stay in my painful shoes until the day is over because they're too small, or regretting buying them too big and they keep slipping out...

Is it the right size when it fits around your foot perfectly without any space, or should you always make sure there is room to fit one finger at the back of your foot inside the shoe?

you need to go get your feet professionally measured at a shoe store. although every company has shoes that may run small, or large..that's why i always try shoes on. you're going to want room at the toe, or it may deform your feet ( not to mention hurt!). i wear a 6.5 on one foot and a 7 on another, a lot of times one foot will be slightly larger.

Whoa! So when you buy a new pair of shoes you must buy the same pair in two different sizes?

    I second professional measurements.

I run about the same size as you (normally a 7, but 6.5-7.5 happens) and have found that buying a 7 is perfect 90% of the time. If they end up running a bit large, I'll take those heel cushion stickers and put one or two in to get the fit more snug. That'll only work if it's just a bit too large though, not a full/half size too big.

Another, possibly TMI, thing I've noticed is that my toenails definitely have an affect on my shoe-wearing comfort. I'm one of those who only wears shoes to run errands out of the house and constantly forgets that I need to trim my nails. They won't look gross or crazy long, but they start to press down/pinch/hurt like a bitch if I go even a day or two too long between trims. I've found previously uncomfortable shoes totally wearable as soon as I trimmed my nails and gave my feet a day to stop hating me.

I've heard it's better to shoe shop later in the day, as your feet naturally swell a bit. So say, if you buy shoes early on, you may find they're a bit uncomfortable later?
I also find some style just don't work well comfort wise.
