Default Cam fees percentage... what I think is fair

I'm a website developer and I love cam sites but I keep reading the percentage taken from the models is exhorbitant... the Apple store and Google store only take like 30% from developers' cut, not 50-70% like I'm reading cam sites do, I don't see why the cam site operators can't live with the same percentage from the models. If I ever build my own cam site, that will be my percentage. I wonder if that's even feasible to operate that kind of site with.

Well if you can open a successful camsite with as much traffic as somewhere like Streamate and give us 70% of our pay then be sure to get in touch with me when you get it going cause I'm there!

Most websites I've worked on are inefficient and poorly-planned. There's gotta be a business model that supports streaming video chats that don't require 70% of the models' pay. Even I feel ripped off as a customer seeing that. YouTube has more streaming daily.

There are cam sites that do give the host 70%. I'm on several of them and I do work them alongside the bigbox sites that take more.

The 70% sites cannot compete with the traffic of the sites that take more.

Would you rather make $50 an hour or $5?

Big camsites like Streamate rely most of their traffic from affiliates or whitepage. The affiliates do most of the adversing. They receive a percentage too of each sale made.

Just an example if I use my referral link and someone pays for my show, I get 75%. If they spend money on another model, I will get 20%. I cannot remember the actual percentage a real affiliate or whitepage gets.

I for one have no problem with the cut, because these affiliates work on bringing in traffic. Which makes the $$$

Yeah, can't complain on the marketing. I'm always busy, I figure if I went to one of the smaller sites, where my percentage was higher, I'd end sitting there half the time which I can't stand. I'm happy with my 35% which gets me anywhere from 50-100 an hour (mine). Can't complain!

I'm a website owner and I'll gladly tell you all about it! I actually built the type of site you speak of and we are currently at 65% given to models, 35 for the site. Soon we are implementing a scaling system for every 5k in sales will mean a 5% increase in comission for the models which will cap out at 90%

As I started with the dream all those months ago I asked the same exact question, and decided I could do better! Then I slowly discovered what's going on here that causes the problem. The first and foremost issue is the nature of the business. Adult businesses are charged SUBSTANTIALLY more for payment processing services than regular businesses, with the norm being 15% vs ANY OTHER BUSINESS which gets rates from 1.02-2% depending on volume, company, and more. There are only 2 reputable credit card processors out there which will allow start ups, making it even harder to break in.

Then we move on to server and service costs, business registration and taxes, development costs, upkeep, advertising, and recruiting.

    Here's a breakdown:

Business Registration - $265 to file LLC paperwork with cheapest company, $200 yearly tax fees, $50 registered agent fees
Credit Card processor - all adult processors require a yearly $1000 fee UP FRONT simply for the ability to process visa and mastercard. This is on TOP of the 15% per transactional fee
Web Server - varies greatly depending on traffic, and amount of content. For a popular camsite this is likely in the thousands per month on bandwidth and upkeep, for a startup it's around $200 and will quickly increase if traffic grows
Development costs - Depending on your programmer, initial development costs range from $15,000 to $30,000 for a fully fleshed out camsite, along with development time which loses money because you cannot be making any during this waiting period.
Graphic Designer - this one is highly variable, but to play it in the low range, let's say $2k
Upkeep, monthly programmer retainer $100 or likely more, plus the cost of actual tasks
Advertising, let's set the budget at $200 per month to get a good flow of traffic going
Recruiting, this may be free, but it's not easy and will cost you a LOT of time, or you can pay a recruiter to do it for you

So, monthly costs for an average adult camsite based on all of these figures' minimums divided out for the first year of operation $1584.59

Working that out to work off of a 35% comission budget has been tough, but I'm making it work at the moment

I hope you'll consider coming by to support us, help us grow so we can be the site you dream of! Sign up is free and super quick.
