    Default 7-Minute Workout

Has anyone else tried the 7 minute workout?

    http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/0...inute-workout/

I've been doing it for about 3 weeks and I have actually gained weight, but lost fat - it seems to be going well and one rep will wear me out, so I'm not up to repeating the cycle yet...but some exercise is better than none!

Do dancers find that it's all the exercise they need to stay fit? Or do most of you supplement it with other workouts off the clock?

I've never done the 7-minute workout. That said, when I danced, I usually alternated between running, swimming and aerobics. I aimed at six days a week, for at least :45 workout per session.

Now, I'm pretty serious about fitness. I run an hour a day five days a week. I do a 5k on most Saturdays at my race pace, which is right at :20.00. If I take a day off during the week, I'll hit the bike on Sunday for a 20 + mile ride. After the first of the year, I'll be switching to biking because I'm going to train to ride across Scotland next summer. I cannot imagine a 7-minute workout doing any good, but it's better than nothing, I guess.

That is incredible. What kind of eating habits are you in if I may ask?

As for the 7minute, I feel it could at least keep me from getting a huge beer gut as I get older...and I don't even drink. Gotta start early

No special diet as such. I do eat a lot of veggies and fruits and I drink at least 64 ounces of water a day in 8 ounce cups. For example tonight for dinner I had a piece of cat fish, blackened, some green beans, some peas, and a green salad with simple red wine vinegarette dressing. I had grapes for desert. Lunch was a green salad again, this one was with light Italian dressing and some roma tomatos that I grew in my garden. Breakfast today was flakes with blueberries. Blueberry season is about over, so I'll switch soon to raisins. In the winter, I make my own oatmeal and I put some raisins on it and a little brown sugar.

If I have a race on Saturday, I carb load with some pasta and meat sauce. I make my own meat sauce with crushed tomatoes, ground beef, spices, lots of garlic and a bay leaf. Pasta, I usually buy at the grocery, nothing fancy. After a race, I will hit a sports drink, but just one 12 ounce bottle. No more.

Great advice, I would choose to try, so I experiment.

I think it's incredible you can live that way and be fulfilled, I can never see myself eating anywhere close to the diet you have. But I know I'll never look as good as you likely do either and I can live with that!

Ideally, I balance intake with output. I do keep track of my weight, but only weekly. As long as I haven't gained or lost any weight, I'm happy. Gain and the next week, I cut back on calories. Lose, and the next week, I eat a few more. I do drink wine, mainly because I like it. In moderation only. Mostly, it's about balance. Because I train a lot, I do take in a fair number of calories per day. Last year when I was prepping for a marathon, I took in about 3500 calories per day. Of course, I was running 50 miles per week and lifting five times a week. Right now, I'm in a down period so I've adjusted down my caloric intake. Once club cross country begins next month, I'll be running with my daughter's club team and I'll have to adjust up my caloric intake.
