I'm going to Vegas but not for a strip trip. I wanted to gamble a little bit. Where do you recommend?
it depends on what you like to play, and what you are looking for.....for example, do you just want to play slots and be left alone, and the best chance to win money? or do you want a party atmosphere, talk to people friendly dealers, and you just want some entertainment?
Not sure how old you are, but I will assume you are in your 20s or low 30s(yes I'm profiling). And assume that you are looking to party and realize you may lose some money, but you want to have fun doing it.
If so, i would recommend going to the strip and walk to various casinos until you find one that is working for you. I would just avoid the following, because they can tend to be a little stuffy, no fun dealers, higher minimums:
Wynn
Venetian
Ceasars Palace
Bellagio
Of the others, I would try these 1st (lower minimums, friendly dealers, fun patrons, and still very nice.
Harras
Paris
New York, NY
Luxor
Mandalay Bay.
And just off the strip......Rio
Rio is my favorite. Start there, because its just a little farther than walking distance. Then you can cab to the strip and walk/stumble to the rest. More than a few occasions, I have had that plan.....and by the time i leave Rio...its light outside.
I dont really go to the seedier ones...or where the locals go because there are "better odds", thats not why I go to Vegas.
Also downtown,(not on the strip)the Golden Nugget was re-done and is nice. You can go there for a change of pace.
good luck!

Planet Hollywood has a great vibe at night; it's a party atmosphere. Also, they just added male dealers to The Pleasure Pit, so the ladies can have some eye candy while gambling, too.
Hooters is pretty cheap and so are the customers, so if you tip $2/drink you can get some mighty fast drink service! I was double-fisting the beers for hours on my last visit.
Ceasars Palace is a must visit, just because it's Ceasars Palace. I find it a bit smoky in there, as I do at all the older hotels.
The Cosmopolitan is probably the "in" spot right now, but it's expensive. I consider that a "must visit" too, if for no other reason that The Chandelier. It's a 3-floor, 2.5-story bar (you read that correctly) inside a giant chandelier. Yeah:

Certainly visit Ceasars....and the others, but i wouldnt gamble there.
She was specifically asking about where to gamble. Try getting a smile out of the old ceasars dealer. He is motherfucking you under his breath with each card that comes out.
Hard Rock is another one with a party vibe in the casino.

My friend once won $600 playing the slot machines.

if you play blackjack (I ONLY play blackjack; i go to vegas once/twice a month to strictly gamble); anyways, AVOID ANY 6TO5 TABLES; people who play 6to5 tables are either drunk ploppies, tourists, or just plain idiots. Recently I finally visited El Cortez in downtown (little far from the strip and where i usually stay at which is either Paris or Aria) but they have THE BEST BJ TABLES; $5 minimum bj ALL DAY AND NIGHT WITH ALL TABLES THAT PAY 3TO2!!! AND U CAN DOUBLE AFTER SPLIT ETC; THE BEST RULES IN BLACKJACK
whereas on the strip, the 3to2 tables are all $25 minimum tables; i was shocked and disgusted when I saw that Aria, MGM, Bellagio all the 3to2 tables were $50 minimum

Nobody mentioned Palms? Great spot to play.
