Default When you REALLY need to go?

Hey guys I was just wondering...I'm currently (exclusively) breastfeeding my 3 month old baby. I need to know what to do when I REALLY have to go. I keep the baby monitor in the room while I'm camming (turned down really low so only I can hear). What do I do if I'm in private and the baby needs me? My fiance works about 12 hours a day so I'm usually home alone when on cam, so there's no one else that can take her. I try to go on cam right after she feeds so it'll be a while before she eats again, but she's having a growth spurt right now so it's kind of unpredictable when she'll be hungry. Any advice would be appreciated!

That is a pretty tricky situation. It's best to not cut off any privates because your looking to build up some good regulars who keep returning.
If she starts to cry for a feed finish up your private and then log off and then log on again when your finished. Generally privates only tend to last between 5-10 minutes (majority) and then the odd few that can last longer.

Be honest with them. Down to earth = sexy. But I wouldn't do block sessions.

do you mean going out to breastfeed only? is someone else helping you with the baby while you work? I ask because if someone else is helping you, maybe you can make friends with a good reliable extractor and build up a milk reserve for the nanny to feed the baby with expressed milk. Growth spurts can keep you nailed to a couch for hours!

if you're camming alone while the baby sleeps, it gets trickier, because --at least in my experience--, you never know how long it will take you to put the little one back to sleep, maybe you're lucky and he's back asleep after nursing in five minutes... but in a bad day maybe you need to change him, nurse him, burp him, rock him, then lay back down with him till he settles down again... so promising to come back quick might not work out. I'd probably cut the private short and let the customer know why and you'll be back on as soon as you can.

Your baby is old enough to start getting onto a reliable feeding schedule. I know a lot of people are all about "feeding on demand" but from my experience (3 kids, one more on the way) things are a lot easier and babies are a lot happier if you can get them onto a steady reliable feeding schedule. Babies thrive on routine. Even with breastfeeding and even with growth spurts, it can be done. That way, you will always know when your baby's feeding time is approaching so you can plan accordingly.

If you aren't willing to do scheduling for your baby, then I would either tell the guy you have to go... you don't have to say it's for the baby you could be like "oh weird I have a pop up that's freezing my screen" or "someones at the door I'm sorry I'll be back in a few minutes" and just apologize and disconnect. I've had to do that a few times and the guys have always been understanding.

Unfortunately, I can't afford a nanny/sitter, and I don't even have a breast pump (can't afford that either lol). She's never eaten out of a bottle anyway, so not sure how she'd take to it: I do use a nipple shield so it may or may not be a big deal for her to switch. No one in my family or my fiance's family lives close enough to watch her on a regular basis. She's usually pretty good about going back to sleep after feeding-in fact, that's really the only time she ever cries (I have been blessed with the quietest baby on Earth), but when she IS hungry, she has very little patience in waiting for her boob, and she gets REALLY worked up in a very short amount of time. I once had to wait ten minutes to feed her-she was hyperventilating by the time I got the breast to her.

She'll be 4 months old in a few weeks, so I'm hoping we'll be able to start giving her a little bit of solid food here and there by then. I may just wait till then to start camming a lot (I've just started, haven't had a ton of luck so far anyway so I don't think it'd set me back any). That way I could just wait till Daddy is home and he could give her some cereal or something until I'm able to get off cam.

Again, schedules are wonderful on so many levels. But you probably aren't interested since you completely skipped over my suggestion.

Another tip, you said you don't have and cannot afford a breast pump - part of the new healthcare reform law is that insurance companies are now required to provide breastfeeding equipment free of charge. If you are on any type of state insurance or Medicaid, you can get a free breast pump. If you are on WIC, you can get a free breast pump. If you have private insurance, contact them because you can get a free breast pump.

    Good luck!

TOTAL THREADJACK.......^^^but Sarah you just made my mommy parts all happy. It's SOOO true that not only babies, but children in general thrive on a good set schedule. Feeding, nap, sleeping, playing, learning....schedules!! I am a firm believer in them. Good job!! Ok....back to the thread.

Yup, even my 11-year old son has an approximate time each day that he expects to do his computer time. Things often work out better when you have a plan beforehand.

Well, she WAS on a pretty good schedule-she used to eat every 3 hours, almost to the minute lol. It's just lately that she's been a little piggy! I don't want to try to force her into a schedule-if she's just growing then I want her to eat as much as she needs, especially since she was a preemie (5 weeks early). I don't currently have insurance/Medicaid (had insurance during pregnancy through my work so I never applied, but had to go on bed rest and wasn't able to keep up with the payments so insurance was cancelled). I've been wanting to apply for WIC but I have to wait till next week for my mom to be able to take me. We only have 1 car and he REALLY can't miss work right now...

REALLY wish I had remembered to grab my stored breastmilk from when she was in the hospital-they told me I had 28 bottles of frozen breastmilk in their freezer, but she had been in the NICU for 3 weeks at that point so like an idiot I grabbed her and ran as soon as they discharged her and totally forgot about it until it was too late

On another note, my sister apparently just quit her job and she's wanting to cam now too! I helped set her up on MFC and directed her to this site

So wic can help you with a breast pump. They let you borrow some great hospital grades.

Insurance also can give you a breastpump. Mine did!

However the fact that you have no one to give her the bottle doesnt help lol.

Until you figure out your cam situation which honestly I"m no help there I'd do clips .

    Lactation sells GREAT on clips4sale!

My twins were born 5 weeks early too, one was in the NICU. That's really hard, I'm glad your baby was able to get out quickly!

The best advice I can give to get her back on a schedule is just make sure she's getting a full tummy when you're breastfeeding her. Help her remember it's feeding time not just snack time, so if she tries to feed for a couple minutes and quit really try to encourage her to continue until she's actually full.

A lot of guys are understanding so I don't imagine you will get a lot of guys mad at you if you have to leave the chat. You could also try token sites while she's having growth spurts that way you are doing less privates and it's easier to leave when you need to.

    This is not true.

    1) Obamacare does not kick in until nxt yr, long after this newborn will need the breast pump.

    2) insurance won't cover it if it is not medically necessary.

OP your best course would be to call your county health department & talk to them to find out what resources are available.
