And so it starts...
What are we going to do when, in ~20 years all of our jobs are outsourced to technology/freaky robots?
...Well, maybe not our jobs.

Bwahahaha!
Eh, I don't think it's any worse than what's already in your home. If you're worried about being spied on it's way too late for that, your cell phone is a GPS audio and video recording device that most people have on their hips at any given point in time, plus webcams on laptops and built in to high end smart tv's, so that's off the list.
But a cool little robo companion? Why not? It's not even close to sentience or self recognition and it seems like it would be a lot of fun to have around. It's just an advanced furby in my eyes![]()
Creeped!

I'm creeped way more by the fact that they can watch me through my laptop. The robot is just too cheezy...

This is the 'robot' that is actually attracting serious attention this week ... Momentum Machines' 'BurgerBot' ... which can cook beef patties rare / medium / well, selectively add lettuce / tomatoes / onions / pickles and other toppings and condiments to order, and wrap up as many as 360 burgers per hour !!!

Nothing creeps me out than: facial recognition software and Google glasses.

^^^ yeah, agreed !!! And we now have more natural looking 'smart glasses', I-Watches, pen cams, keychain cams, etc. which have the same basic capabilities of snapping 'stealth' pics / videos and running facial recognition database searches - but without being quite so 'obvious' about it. Because of this, no dancer or camgirl can still safely assume that her 'true identity' will remain secret from a determined customer ( or tax collector ).
See
Your club can implement a no camera phone, no Google glasses policy. It's no fun when someone else has it but it's good if you have it in case you need to prove someone committed a crime against you and you were not at fault. This could be for anything.

^^^ that is true. But it is also not without potential consequences. Lots of customers will not be willing to 'hand over' their cell phone / I-watch, with all the associated business and personal information, to a 'stranger' ... even if that 'stranger' is a club employee. Instead, that customer ( and his money ) are likely to go to the club down the street which does not have a 'no cell phones' policy.
And any supposed policy which does not actually take the cell phone / I-watch, 'smart' glasses, pen cam, keychain cam etc. out of the hands of customers doesn't really provide any actual protection against 'stealth' pics / videos being taken of dancers and later used for facial recognition based searches. Obviously where camgirls are concerned, it is impossible to implement such a policy. There's a ton of this sort of discussion in the older SW thread I linked to above.
Consensus is that there's no practical way around the fact that dancers and camgirls are 'public performance' artists ... who do not have a legal right to 'expectation of privacy' when performing. With every new technology 'gadget' that becomes available, the odds of a dancer or camgirl having their privacy compromised increases.
Along related lines, a new product has just been announced called a 'Personal Jammer' ... see
supposedly, this 'Personal Jammer' will allow individuals to selectively jam 'smart' glass and cell phone connections to a privately owned network. The device also has the capability of jamming 'smart' glass and cell phone connections to ALL networks !!! However, the manufacturer clearly states that ALL network jamming is clearly illegal in the USA. And even if American 'Personal Jammer' owners were to illegally jam ALL network access, it would still not prevent the 'smart' glass or cell phone from taking and storing the 'stealth' pics or video internally for later downloading for facial recognition search or any other purposes.
Again, as discussed in the linked thread of my previous post, present US laws appear to protect the free speech 'rights' of the 'stealth' photo and video 'glassholes', while minimizing any privacy 'rights' of dancers and camgirls. This obviously discourages the development of 'personal privacy' related defensive technologies.

I think it's cute!

these latest 'revelations' indeed gave me the creeps of 'biblical' proportions ( pun intended ) ... from
(snip)Barclays has just announced that it is going to become the first major bank in the western world to use vein scanning technology to control access to bank accounts. There will even be a biometric reader that customers plug into their computers at home...
Barclays is launching a vein scanner for customers as it steps up use of biometric recognition technology to combat banking fraud.
The bank has teamed up with Japanese technology firm Hitachi to develop a biometric reader that scans a customer's finger to access accounts, instead of using a password or PIN.
The biometric reader, which plugs into a customer’s computer at home, uses infrared lights to scan blood flow in a person’s finger. The user must then scan the same finger a second time to confirm a transaction. Each “vein profile” will be stored on a SIM card inside the device.
Vein recognition technology is used by some banks in Japan and elsewhere at ATM machines, but Barclays said it is the first bank globally to use it for significant account transactions.

Cell phone security is another area of great concern these days. If someone can get a hold of your phone and unlock it, that person can potentially do all sorts of damage.
So Motorola has developed a "digital tattoo" that will be used to ensure that only the owner of a phone is able to unlock it. The following is how Motorola described these new digital tattoos...
Made of super thin, flexible materials, based on VivaLnk’s eSkinTM technology, each digital tattoo is designed to unlock your phone with just a touch of your Moto X to the tattoo, no passwords required. The nickel-sized tattoo is adhesive, lasts for five days, and is made to stay on through showering, swimming, and vigorous activities like jogging. And it’s beautiful—with a shimmering, intricate design.
It’s another step in making it easier to unlock your phone on the go and keep your personal information safe. An average user takes 2.3 seconds to unlock their phone and does this about 39 times a day—a process that some people find so inconvenient that they do not lock their phones at all. Using NFC technology, digital tattoos make it faster to safely unlock your phone anywhere without having to enter a password.

some people were actually implanting themselves with microchips in anticipation of the release of the iPhone 6 on September 9th...
With a wave of his left hand, Ben Slater can open his front door, turn on the lights and will soon be able to start his car. Without even a touch he can link to databases containing limitless information, including personal details such as names, addresses and health records.
The digital advertising director has joined a small number of Australians who have inserted microchips into their skin to be at the cutting edge of the next stage of the evolution of technology.
Slater was prompted to be implanted in anticipation of the iPhone 6 release on September 9.
The conjecture among pundits and fans worldwide over what chief executive Tim Cook will reveal is building.
At present the iPhone cannot read microchip implants. However, Mr Slater believes the new version will have that capability. His confidence is now lodged between his thumb and forefinger.
Of course this kind of thing is not new. People have been getting implanted with microchips for years. If you doubt this, just do an Internet search for "biohackers" and see what you find.
But it is starting to become more mainstream(snip)
And, in fact, the new IPhone 6 not only has enhanced biometric scan capabilities, it can also link them to a GPS location ... from
(snip)in iPhone 6 the Touch ID fingerprint scanner will be taken to a higher platform. Far-field sensors will be installed in the new iPhone to make the quality of the fingerprint scanner enhanced. The sensors which are heard to be installed in the gadget can also determine the orientation of the user’s finger during scan. Another copyright says that the fingerprint sensor will be combined with Global Positioning System (GPS). This can proof advantageous in many cases such as, parents can track their children (this is a huge advantage in case of emergencies).(snip)

Omg. The microchip thing was in that documentary I watched around 7 years ago? Can't remember the name . About the world having one money denomination and implanting microchips. What was that called?!?

For $499 do you also get to form your own Skynet?

Maybe History Channel ... '2012 End of the World' ? Lots of 'end times' stuff hit the airwaves until the world didn't actually end on Dec 21, 2012 as the Mayan prophecy supposedly predicted !
Personally speaking, the implanted microchip bit didn't creep me out as much as the Barclay's Bank announcement that they will require biometric account / transaction verification ... which will undoubtedly soon be followed by other 'western' banks.
No, but you do get $100 Apple stock share prices !!!For $499 do you also get to form your own Skynet?

I think it was Zeitgiest?

^^^ this is probably wading into 'dangerous waters', but my hints via 'revelations' and 'biblical' in the above post ... as well as your documentary reference ... stem from a supposed biblical prophecy ...
"And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name.…"
... which is why the ongoing development of implanted microchip / biometric verificatication technologies, combined with Barclays Bank's announcement that they will indeed begin requiring biometric verification for bank account transactions, creeped me out so much.
well, it's thought to be the best 'Nerd Watch' that student loan money can buy !!! BTW Apple shares just hit $102 !!!I think the Apple nerd Watch alone will get the stock to that price! What a disappointment!

^ My Goppro has gone up 5 dollars in the last 2days and almost 20 since I bought it!

So I found this article on the robot:
http://www.geekwire.com/2014/skeptical-of-jibo/
Apparently it can't even do all the features yet that are show in the video. Here are some quotes from the article:
So what does Jibo actually do today? Here’s TechCrunch:
Jibo isn’t set for release until late next year, so many of the features aren’t in a usable form yet. As you can see in the video of our demo above, the current iteration can dance and introduce itself and that’s about it.So I guess it doesn't so much for now, but it's still pretty creepy. The creators are asking people to throw money at something they’ve never seen, that has only been shown to the press in limited demos, and that won’t even ship until the tail end of next year. All we have to go on right now is a slick-looking pitch video and a whole bunch of promises.
Agreed! No way am I going to leave an internet-connected, motorized camera next to my daughter’s bed. Nope, not happening.
