Default from the tragic to the bizarre ... Ebola Victims 'Resurrecting' ?

for what it's worth ... from

(snip)Two Ebola patients, who died of the virus in separate communities in Nimba County have reportedly resurrected in the county. The victims, both females, believed to be in their 60s and 40s respectively, died of the Ebola virus recently in Hope Village Community and the Catholic Community in Ganta, Nimba.

But to the amazement of residents and onlookers on Monday, the deceased reportedly regained life in total disbelief. The NewDawn Nimba County correspondent said the late Dorris Quoi of Hope Village Community and the second victim only identified as Ma Kebeh, said to be in her late 60s, were about to be taken for burial when they resurrected.

Ma Kebeh had reportedly been in door for two nights without food and medication before her alleged death. Nimba County has had bazaar news of Ebola cases with a native doctor from the county, who claimed that he could cure infected victims, dying of the virus himself last week.

News of the resurrection of the two victims has reportedly created panic in residents of Hope Village Community and Ganta at large, with some citizens describing Dorris Quoi as a ghost, who shouldn't live among them. Since the Ebola outbreak in Nimba County, this is the first incident of dead victims resurrecting.(snip)

People are spending way too much time watching the Walking Dead.

Good god. I remember reading Hot Zone when I was a kid and having nightmares about Ebola outbreaks in America. The virus was one of my greatest fears for a long time, and I'm glad it seems like they may be making progress in treating it.

But I'm not here for Ebola zombies, no way. I suggest we all re-watch Jenna Jameson's classic Zombie Strippers in anticipation of the coming apocalypse.

I'd guess they slipped into a coma. That area of the globe doesn't exactly have cat scans and brain/heart monitoring at their disposal.

I'd really hate to be seriously ill there. There are probably a lot of people simply in a coma who were given up for dead but could have lived with proper care.

It's like in the 1800s and earlier when people were often buried alive because they appeared dead. Common enough for people to design stuff like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safety_coffin

They have bells attached so if you wake up, you can ring for them to dig you up. Although by the point you've been buried, it's a race against suffocation so...

That reminds me of this short scary story: http://www.scaryforkids.com/grave-digger/

Which in turn reminds me of the Soviet version of the story:
In Russia, coffin has pipe for air, and bell with string. If man is true Soviet, he does not die. When buried, yells for undertaker and rings bell. Bell rings. Is no wind.

Undertaker asks - "Are you lady Gorbochev?"

    Voice says "Da!"

    "Born winter of 1927?"

    "Da!"

"Gravestone says 'Died 20 February, 1957"

    "Niet, am still living!"

"Am sorry, but is October. In June, ground will thaw. You must wait for June."

And woman is true Soviet, waits for June.

LOL! I clicked on the link and it looks legit. Maybe it's a Halloween prank or an "Onion" type story.

Edgar Allen Poe wrote something about people being buried alive when they appeared dead back in the 1800s and before. I think it was Poe, I read it when I was a teenager. Very scary stuff.

Yes, the story was called The Premature Burial.

I didn't know about the term "Dead Ringer" being a hoax until recently.

I wonder what the true origin of the expression is?
