    Default Describe your ideal club

The Short Version: Describe your ideal club

I have been looking for ways to make money work for me. As a retired dancer, it occurred to me that most (if not all) of the ~10 clubs I worked at over my career were:

    1. Run by men
    2. Could have been run much better if they had given a rats ass what was important to their girls or even the customers. It seems like creating work conditions that don't suck to retain your dancers would be an obvious part of running a business, but from my experience not so much.

So maybe that's the investment opportunity. I'm working on a business plan now and would love to get your opinion on:

    1. An ideal club
    2. Areas for improvement in your club(s)
    3. Does anyone work for a club that is owned by a woman, especially a former dancer?

    Thank you, Ladies!!!!

I'm not really picky on the little things as long as the club has high earning potential. Ideally there is a low level of bullshit/dirtiness, but as long as I can make money following the actual rules/bylaws, I'm happy. Everything else is just extra. Even high fees aren't out of the question if the money more than makes up for them.

+1 for healthy food in the kitchen.

Reasonable tip outs. No more than 1/3 of your gross. Less for girls who have been there longer and less for showing up early or staying late.

Clean changing room with real lockers.

Non-smoking inside the club with a smokers lounge in back but outside. Preferably with bar service.

I was talking about this with some girls at my club the other day.

The one thing we all for sure agreed on was DEFINITELY bouncers/guys to walk us out at the end of our shift--I know this is common in most places, but our club doesn't really have that, and it makes a lot of us uncomfortable leaving at the end of our shifts. We try to walk out together and sometimes my DJ will walk me to my truck, but that's about it. And since our DJ kind of doubles are our bouncer on day shift, I have to run tell him when a guy does something inappropriate, but he's got other shit to do.

Also, at our club we don't take any of the VIP fee and still depend on LD $ in the VIP. In my ideal club, I'd get a hefty chunk of that VIP change lol.

We were also throwing around ideas about having girls on salary and getting a commission for selling dances (possibly with a bonus for the top-selling dancer or something), or membership-based clubs. I'm not so sure about those ideas, just because I'm skeptical that I would be making as much money on salary as I am just keeping all the money from my dances. But the benefits of being an actual employee would be great. Although, then it would be easier for potential future employers to find out I was a dancer.

And yeah, a club with clean bathrooms/showers and a functioning/non-leaky AC in the DR would be nice.

No girls with bad attitudes, drugs, getting drunk on shift, etc.

If there was some way to keep girls from sitting with guys for too long, so the customers could be "trained" to spend money, that would be great. Fine them or something, I dunno, it's a half-baked idea, haha.

Your comments are very helpful, thank you.

I love the idea of financially rewarding girls that have been there the longest. Also, it makes so much sense to teach the dancers to hustle. Not sure why most clubs don't do it. Of course, some dancers aren't there to make money.

Fishielicious, I can't believe they take your whole VIP fee! That's sucks.

^^Yeah, it is awful. I always tell guys I don't get any of the VIP money, so they need to tip me well in VIP, but so many of them still expect so much more when I'm only getting paid $20-30 for each dance. They also seem to think that if they just want to hold me/cuddle/whatever, that that doesn't count as dances in VIP. Uh... Why else would I be going back there I'm not trying to get paid nothing. If we're in VIP, I'm charging for each song. So yeah, I wish we had a better system to handle that.

I love many thing about my club but definitely not that.

Also: my club is constantly firing girls and then bringing the back so that no one is even scared by that threat anymore. In my ideal club, if a girl gets fired for fighting or whatever else... She should stay fired.

No drugs at work. I would even go so far as to say, send girls home if they come in high. Yes to drinking, but don't pressure girls to imbibe. Let them have the option of juice or water, or virgin drinks if they want those instead of alcohol.

I am generally for min. tipouts for DJs, since they are working too -- but no more than $5-10. I would love to figure out sm system that keeps 'tudes sm what in-check, every1 happy & out of each other's kool-aid. I think therés as many bad-tempered girls as there are DJs, the good DJs who do their jobs well shouldn't be made to leave broke.

Club's VIP cuts -- no more than 30-35%. My home club in DC had multiple time options: 10min, 30min, 1hr, or all-nite & took 50%. I made the most of it by pushing for as many 10min blocks as possible. So have several options w/ the shortest being 10 or 15min since those can be easiest to extend.

Require bouncers to walk us out at the end of the shift, day or nite -- & require a modest min. tipout for them. I have worked in a couple clubs where the bouncers were on top of their shit (when mgmt wasn't tying their hands, anyway), but girls were not required to tip them -- so they didn't, even if the bouncer got clocked trying to take care of them. If any1 deserves a min tipout, I say it's the guys who are there to protect you.

Cameras everywhere. No tolerance for stealing, extras, drugs or sloppy/aggressive drunks. Also zero tolerance for dance'n'dashers & abusive customers. No withholding info of a customer who assaults a dancer or drugs her drink.

No rap or gangsta hiphop. Dubstep in moderation. Allow dancers to play goofy music when it's dead or cheap, or music that calls out cheapos.

These, + pretty much everything the other girls have already mentioned.

a reasonable house fee around 25 bucks on the week nights, a little higher on the weekends maybe 40/50 OR 5-10 taken out of your dances.

DJs that are on top of their shit, respectful to the dancers, & plays music for the crowd that the dancer can also enjoy... i've had guys NOT tip me because they think i picked the atrocious shit blaring from the speakers. there are some kinds of music i don't think anybody enjoys lol. i think the girls could tip 5-10 bucks every night to the DJ.

managers need to keep it professional. no favoritism, no handing out favors to dancers for blowing them, no calling the girls "whores" or verbally abusing them, no bullying girls they have strange grudges against.. if they have a problem, they need to keep it firm but respectful.

absolutely NO stealing, fist fighting, screwing customers, getting high or drunk in the bathrooms allowed. girls who systematically start drama with everyone in the damn club should be given the boot as well.

they need to put a cap on the number of girls walking in/scheduled on any given night.

customers who don't tip on stage should be asked to leave so other paying customers can take their seats. same with customers who drink water and buy no dances or tip.

if you are giving a dance you should not have to be forced to go onstage for peanuts, and then fined 25 bucks for not making it there on time. it makes no sense, especially considering the club makes monkey off your dance, it doesn't make money off your stage tips.

i'd love to be able to just walk in when i felt like working, instead of being forced to make out a schedule a month in advance with 20 hours a week minimum for keeping my job ( i'm a stripper, wtf is that shit?)

anything from bikinis to lingerie to gowns acceptable, just no walking around in nothing but a thong

i'm really not picky at all, i don't feel like any of these are far fetched ??

as for some of the more far fetched fantasies :
a water bubbler in the dressing room, a shower, flushing toilets..they should also hold mini seminars on sales techniques and how to hustle better.

    Ideal and fantasy could be the same thing;
I can wear 3 day old dirty jeans, no make-up, knotted hair, and eye boogers. Every female will tell me I'm their ultimate goal for looks and brains. All males will say I'm the Goddess of women. I receive unlimited presents for around the world, being worshiped.
And then I wake up. Chantix has extremely vivid dreams.

    I thought of more:

Keep track of customers spending vs customers not-spending. If a customer is there for, say, 20 min & only bought drinks -- regardless of the drink prices -- if they are not spending on the girls they get kicked out w/ no refunds.

Stage hecklers -- removed from stageside the first time & kicked out if they do it again.

Waive fees for working less-desirable shifts.

Require first dance to be paid upfront. All rooms paid upfront. No hosts -- my home club in DC had the bouncers take care of payment & room prep since they had to be in the hallway immediately outside anyway & it worked well, since other than that, the most they could do was just point out possible spenders. Their interactions w/ customers were kept to a minimum so there was little to none of the problem of icing girls out of sales or the other host-related problems I have read abt here.

Definitely this. I know I keep harping on it, but it really makes no sense to me that girls get no cut of the VIP at my club. The club makes so much easy money off of that, but who are the ones selling it? The dancers. And many of us now have incentive to DISCOURAGE men from going to VIP with us because we're not making enough to justify having to put up with the inevitably worse behavior from customers in the VIP. Everyone makes more money if the club actually gives dancers a reason to upsell to VIP.

And I agree about tipping bouncers and DJs as well. They're at least helping me do my job/keep me safe, so I understand the need to tip them. I don't understand the need to tip my managers (even though I like them). I'm making them money all day, not the other way around, and I'm already paying a house fee to dance.

Allow girls to drink, certainly, but don't allow them to keep working when they get sloppy drunk. Not only does it look bad on stage, but it's dangerous for her (there will be more assholes trying to take advantage), and dangerous for the rest of us because it sets up the expectation that this is a place where that kind of thing is acceptable.

People should be kicked out for taking pictures for Christ's sake. I'm not even crazy about allowing people to have their phones out at all, but at the very least, if a dancer says someone took a picture of her... take his phone, delete the picture, and kick him out. I'm real pissed about this one cause it happened the me the other day and the guy didn't get booted, nor did the picture get deleted.

Reasonable fees, and different ways of making money for different types of hustlers. Lapdance booth and champagne room options. A stage tipping culture would be great, too.

OH YES, I second capping the number of dancers. Tell girls they can call in to see if the cap has been reached so they don't waste a trip to be turned away. Ideally if you could survey for the first year (to account for seasonal money changes), and then find a number of dancers that works where every girl is averaging X amount of dollars, that would be cool.

    My fantasy club would:

Play a variety of different music, including rap/hip-hop.

Have alot of foot traffic/ new customers always coming in.

Have low house fees. Tip-outs optional only.

Have managers that look out for you and will stand up for you at all times.

Have the option to tip the DJ to stay off stage the whole night.

Allow you to leave any time you want.

Not have a housemom. I don't like housemoms.

Let the dancers get free food!

Have a garden room with a water fountain and a magical, tropical atmosphere with fairies and mushrooms and strippers dancing on a giant green bean pole...

that last one is a little far-fetched, but a girl can dream can't she...

My club is trying really hard to be an ideal club. If I had to add anything, I'd say hire a valet. It is in a rich neighborhood, the mall 1/2 mile away has valet, I'm not sure why the club doesn't. They could also use a waitress on the day shift. Sometimes the bartender gets too busy to keep up with the lunch rush.

Of course there are always little things that are annoying, but overall, I'm super happy with my home club.

    - Flexible scheduling/no required minimum amount of days you have to work.
    - No fine for canceling or leaving early.
    - No mandatory tip-outs! It's the club owner's responsibility to pay the dj, bouncers, etc. a living wage, not ours.
    - Kick out guys who aren't spending any money after a set amount of time.
    - Don't require dancers to be polite & non-confrontational when customers are misbehaving. Stand up for us or at least have our back after the fact. Don't put your yelp reviews above our safety and wellbeing.
